Anyone have a sunspel riviera that could help with sizing?

readpaulbreadpaulb Cleveland, OhioPosts: 86MI6 Agent
There is a navy riviera on ebay right now that is size XL. Problem is, I don't have a clue how it will fit. Anyone have anything to compare it to. I can wear a L in a H&M polo, but a medium sometimes fits as well. If anyone knows what size DC wore in the film that would help as well, as we are almost identical in height, weight, and size.

Any help would be great, thanks!

I am normally size L but found that I needed an XL in Riviera

    I am 6ft 1 and about 190 pounds (185cm and 85kg for non-US types)

Please note- this garment is cut in such a way that it can be unforgiving if you have a "roof over the toolshed"

As far as I know, Craig wore M size in CR.

I am usually XL size with poloshirts (Polo Ralph Lauren) and need one size larger with Sunspel - XXL

hi readpaulb, mine are XXL, I am 6 foot 1 tall a 46 inch chest and a 39 inch waist and 16 1/2 stone and a 17 inch shirt collar,
they are lovely to wear, I certainly wont be buying any more Ralphs again,
By the way, did I tell you, I was "Mad"?

Thanks for the link! It's weird because I would seem to be fine with an XL but it says 45" chest circumference which is definitely too big. Might be out of luck here without being able to try one on anywhere.

DC must have narrower shoulders than I thought if he was able to squeeze into a medium.

Good to know to size up...are these available in any American stores where one could try them on first?

    I have to disagree...
The older I am getting the more I enjoy longsleeve Poloshirts - and these are not available from Sunspel.
So my Ralphs are getting more and more in my closet.

In my experiences, Sunspel is inconsistent with their sizing, but generally tend to be more generous than restricting. I have a medium, and it stretched out a bit after I broke it in. I honestly think I could wear a small, and I have a 44 inch chest (33 waist). I also have broad shoulders and the medium fits just fine over them.

Based on the way you've described your body, I think XL would be too big.

Knowing that I'll hold out on a medium or large to show up on eBay. I'm 42" chest 30" waist and 16.5" in the arms so it sounds like I would need a similar size as you. Thanks for the input.

I had contacted sunspel a while back for the actual spec dimensions around my size. Here is what they provided:

Many thanks for your email and interest in our Riviera Polo shirts.

Please see below for further size information:

    Size Large XLarge
    Chest 55cm 58.5cm
    Length 74cm 76cm

Please note, the waist measurement is the same is the chest

They might have settled down with their sizing of late (I've sent enough bloody complaints and items back to them for refunds :)) )

They were shocking at one point e.g their black Rivieria was always smaller then the Navy version (I have had 4 blacks over the years and always been smaller then the navy).

I have a few Sunspel long sleeve Polos and I have had to size up from the Rivieras also!!!

In fact I got so pissed off with Sunspel sizing AND dodgy stitching that I now only buy when I'm back in London and actually try / check them on in their Soho shop!!!

    Hi read,

Being from this side of the pond, sunspel polos do not fit like the polo's you buy in the states. I've already gone through the process of asking the same question you are, ordering, laughing at the size, re-packaging and sending it back. Trust me when i tell ya, whatever size you would buy in a store here stateside, go one up from sunspel.

Thanks for the heads up, I guess I'll have to find a way to try one on in the states somehow, or just go with a large if it pops up on ebay for cheap and just take a chance. Medium just seems like there is no possible way it would fit, but with my luck if I get a hold of a large that will be too big haha

We sure Daniel Craig wore a Medium in the movie? I'm kind of thinking he wore a small...

Got one in Medium myself and it's a bit big in the gut still after a wash. I'm a 38" chest, 32" waist, but it still feels like it's a Large on me instead of a medium.

It is good to know! I hope the one I ordered (XL) will fit.

I just received my Sunspel Riviera in XL. I'm 6'3'' 180 lbs (1.90 m 82 kg for all normal people) with a suit jacket size of 50 EUR / 40 US/UK. Not surprising the XL was too large for me so I returned it. I usually wear an L or XL in shirts and reading the advice to size up I decided to go with the XL. Thanks to the link provided by Welshboy78 I was able to purchase 2 polos at 20% off in size L. Too bad the sky blue one was not available in my size.

If i had seen your stats I could have warned you. I am 43" chest (93KG) and the XL is a bit baggy on me. Oh well glad you could return it!

My 2 navy polos in size L arrived yesterday and they fit very well. Great quality and a really airy fabric. Maybe I could have gone for an M but that might have been too short and tight.
