Personal Favourite Connery Performance.

Everyone has something to say about Connery's performance in the Bonds; whether it's praising him for the first few entries or criticising him for his last few. I bring up this question because my friend (relatively big bond fan) told me his favourite Connery performance was in DAF and said he basically saved that film from being a total shambles.
I do like Connery in every film myself, even NSNA, but my personal favourite has always been Thunderball. I don't think Connery starts to phone it in there at all but in fact gave his most charming, confident performance of all and I love watching him strut about the health clinic like he owns the place. Quips are on top form too.

Dr No is a very close second.
....and the best he ever managed was a sermon on the mount.

    Ive always been partial to his Thunderball performance. I always considered this the peak of his Bond run climaxing with the huge blockbuster Thunderball was. All went downhill in terms of his portrayal as Bond after Thunderball

    From Russia With Love for me. Connery's performance is still very close to Fleming's Bond, oozes style and appears more confident than his debut performance. The scene with Grant on the train is probably the most tense of the entire series and very well acted by both Connery and Shaw. Also the chemistry between Bond and Kerim Beye is another particular highlight, something that wasn't really repeated in GF IMO.

    GOLDFINGER represents my favourite overall Connery performance. Relaxed, confident & charming with a ruthless edge - Connery at his finest.

    But THUNDERBALL features three of my favourite Connery moments:-
    1. Bond's nonchalant wave of the hand when Largo compliments him on his card playing skills.
    2. Bond's casual shooting of a clay pigeon at Largo's home - "Seems terribly difficult.... No it isn't, is it."
    3. Bond finding Fiona in his hotel bath. Just giving her some slippers when she asks him for something to put on is a masterstroke of ice-cool machismo.

    Also, the stricken look on his face when he discovered Kerim Bey's body.

    +1 - you've hit the mark on both Goldfinger and Thunderball, Big Tam. -{

    To Goldfinger, I would add: the way he strides up to Jill Masterson in Goldfinger's hotel room as she's looking through the binoculars - pure magic. He looks like a big cat :))
    "How was your lamb?" "Skewered. One sympathises."
