No offense to Pierce - he did a fine job in the film and I enjoyed his 007 period. Only the Bond writers (and in the case of DAD the director) let him down many times. The problem I had with his casting in this was he was essentially playing the role of a hit man who got out of the business then got sucked back in because of dangers to his family. Now when he was playing Bond and they kept his role light (when he got to seduce the woman and play with Q's gadgets, etc) he fit fine because he had his years of doing Remington Steel and was great in that. It gave him the chance to slide into the EON series with the ability to handle the Moore type humor and yet still look lethal with the PPK. Whenever the writers tried to go darker with the character he seemed to have some inner conflict with it that showed through for me on the screen - it was too off balance from the lighter notes he played well with. It's similar to the problem Dalton had only in reverse - he was good with the dark side but the humor he was given to chew on was just too out of place. I've noticed this in many of Brosnan's films - he's fine at either doing comedy or drama, but when he's saddled with both in the same script he seems to feel uncomfortable with switching between the two.
This film shows him playing a really dark character (much darker than even Craig's Bond for me) and as much as I given him credit for his acting, I was just not comfortable - given his resume, with him in this role.
THIS was the Bond movie Pierce never got to make. Well, an "R" rated version, at any rate. Holly effin' crap did I love this film, well written, and Donaldson directed excellently.
Those who appreciated Brosnan as Bond *NEED* to get this!
Those that think Craig is better than Brosnan might be needing to just rent it.
{[] yep!, I posted before that it shows what Brosnan could have done as
Bond. If he'd been given better scripts or if his films had been given a
Darker edge.

I remember Pierce Brosnan appearing on Bond's 40th Anniversary show on the BBC, just after Die Another Day was released. He was upbeat/positive about another film. I agree with AlphaOmegaSin in that it would probably have been more like For Your Eyes Only. I have not seen The November Man yet but have noted it has been given mixed reviews.

The lack of discussion on this film here frankly amazes me.
I loved this flick. it was better than many Bond movies IMHO.
Perhaps, the lack of discussion is mainly because not many of us have seen it yet. Here in the UK it was given a very limited release and disappeared in a couple of weeks.
As for it being better than many Bond movies? It does have the advantage of being new and fresh. Will you still hold the same opinion a few years from now? Maybe, maybe not.

What he said...can't see a film if they don't screen it, and there HAS to be a reason for that... ?:)
