Funny women in the Bond movies?

Number24Number24 NorwayPosts: 22,439MI6 Agent
One of the actresses I have suggested for Bond 24 is Josephine Bornebusch. She is a Swede who has done some drama, but is best known for doing comedy. Josephine Bornebusch is very, very funny!
This made me think; are there any funny women in the Bond series? Not women who behave stupidly and people laugh at them, but talented comedy actresses. I think a blonde with witty lines and great comedic timing would be a breath of fresh air in the Craig movies after all the tragic brunettes.

From interviews, Honor Blackman has a wicked sense of humor. :D

I met her once, and yes she does.
I don't suppose DJD is who the OP had in mind, but she certainly can be funny.

That's really not what I ment. Are there any funny women in the Bond movies, as in where they funny on screen in a Bond movie? I think a funny Bond girl would be a plus since comedy isn't Daniel Craigs main strength.

I think many of the Bond leading ladies have all had funny moments, not all
The way through the film, as that's Bond's gig. :))
XXX on the boat with Bond, some of the banter with Tracy in ohmss, Aki in YOLT
and of course all those wonderful Moneypenny scenes. {[]

Now I remember one from MR:

    Bond: -You're a woman!
Goodhead: -Your powers of observation do you credit, Mr Bond.

But other than M I don't think the women in Craig's movies have been funny. Or am I wrong?
  • ThunderpussyThunderpussy Behind you !Posts: 63,792MI6 Agent
So far the Craig Bonds haven't been full of humor but Vesper and Bond
Had a bit of banter on the train in CR. Bond and M in SF very funny at
    Times. :))

I'm glad to be reminded that there are more witty women in Bond movies than I remembered, but I still think a funny woman in the Bond movies is needed more now than it has been for some time. Especially Vesper and Severine were great Bond girls, but Bond has had enough tragic females in his life for a while now.

Really the only woman I can remember being played purely for comedy in a Bond film is Rosika in TLD.

Some might argue for Lupe, but that of course was unintentional! :))
    Hilly...you old devil!

I don't think any Bond girl should be played entirely for laughs.

    Er, back on-topic....

Few Bond leading ladies are given funny lines in the script, it's not what they're there for. Some have comedy talent, and others don't.
  • Number24Number24 NorwayPosts: 22,439MI6 Agent
Not all have a talent for comedy. Neither should all Bond girls be funny or any Bond girl be only funny. But I think this is the time and place for a witty Bond girl. There have been enough Bond girls with tragic fates lately and while Craig can deliver some funny lines it's not his strength.

One who should have been allowed to be funiwr is the lively Gemma Arteton. As dodgey as this sounds, shes funny and sexy in the first St Trinians and has a clever scene in the otherwise weak sequel. She was also funny and charming on a chat show promoting Hansel and Gretel with co star Jerry Renner. Wish she had been given a bigger role than Fields.

Rosamund Pike also appears to have a witty sense of humour, she should do more comedy.

Lets not forget the Moneypennys either. From Lois Maxwell right through to Naomie Harris, they have all had / have a playful wittyness about them. Watch any episode of Downton Abbey where Samantha Bond plays Lady Rosamund and you'll see what I mean!
This is Thunderbird 2, how can I be of assistance?

So Number 24, like a number of us you feel that the series should lighten up a bit after the heavy emotions of the last three films, and you think the way to go would be to give the leading lady more comedy.
I'm not a Craig fan (as may have been noticed) but the few funny lines he gets to do, he does well. I'd rather see that area worked on.
  • ThunderpussyThunderpussy Behind you !Posts: 63,792MI6 Agent
Perhaps a lady with a big red nose. Big red shoes ............... :))

I thought they had the right amount of humor in SF. -{ and the ladies
are there to add to the glamour, Bond does the funny lines.

Yes, I think Craig can be funny in his own way. Lines like "that last hand nearly killed me", "we are teachers who have won the lottery" or "Oh good, here comes a train" work well. The more deadpan, dark humour suits him well. I don't think more lighthearted, goofy humour suits him and I believe he knows it. I think one Bond girl who can be laugh out loud funny would be a good thing in his tenure as Bond.
  • ThunderpussyThunderpussy Behind you !Posts: 63,792MI6 Agent
    Agreed, Craig's Bond as with Connery suits the dark, even cruel humour. -{
