My first computer was the BBC Micro computer with the mark 1 floppy disc drive at my primary school in 1982. We were very disapointed that bat and ball was not as good as pong.
Any waafer theen mints in today?
This is Thunderbird 2, how can I be of assistance?
I was having a conversation with my 9 year old today... it started with
Oliver "Mum, so what did you have (to play with) when you were my age...?"
Me: "mmm, I had a cindy doll, etch a sketch, bicycle, roller skates, books...."
Oliver "What, no computer? or an Xbox?"
Me: "Well, the internet wasn't around, so we had no computers as you know them and there was no Google!"
Oliver: "No google....?"
Me: "nope!"
Oliver: "How did you look stuff up?"
Me: "Library... books, oh and our TV only had 3 channels.... and we had to watch the programme when it was ON! We couldn't record it, or pause it... or catch up...."
Oliver "I'm glad I wasn't young when you were..."
But you know what, I loved my childhood... we could go out, play in the woods, life seemed simpler. Although we must have been bloody brilliant at planning... I mean, no phones, and yet I was just as social.
Oliver just can't comprehend how it was... he's been brought up with so much technology. I mean, it was a BIG thing when walkmans came out... that was so cutting edge! And now, to think of the way we listen to music now, you don't even need a physical 'product' - God know what it's going to be like in 20 years time!
....anyway, any chance of an orange juice?
