    -{ Very interesting, I've only read one young Bond book " Hurricane Gold "
    Which was a good adventure story but didn't hook me enough to try the
    Others. :D

    Pretty standard fare by the looks of it...he'll have a job to match the novels of Higson !

    So has anyone bought a copy of Steve Cole's Shoot to Kill released today then?

    I looked for a copy in my local branch of Waterstones but to no avail so I'm going to order it from the ever-reliable Amazon instead. :) -{

    Already knocked off the prologue and three chapters. Cole writes with speed (and no unnecessary detail); his history, or course, is writing for kids who, I guess, get easily bored.

    No bad thing though. The Dartington Hall thing is ignorable, though could have been done differently, I'd suggest, so it didn't pee off old farts like me.

    So far, so good. Go order it.

    At Dartington Hall does young Bond get involved in a high stakes game of Quidditch
    with the Villain. :))

    I am an adult - I know not of what you speak ;)

    He gets chased by a group of kids who don't take to him on first sight. (Higson sort of pulled the same "ah, you're the new boy, Bond" trick too). Must have one of those faces you instantly want to slap. :p

    Falls through a roof, though. And has a comma of dark hair. Which makes the boy a more legitimate claimant to the name James Bond than another individual... :))

    Sorry didn't read all of it, but I get the Idea,....
    .... Bond falls through roof and gets a Coma !. Got it ! ;)

    Sort of runs his hand through his luxuriant mop after a bit of action. As opposed to the limited remaining bristly stubble. :)

    On a similar note, many people (inc me) believe Bond became Scottish because of Connery. But did you know, from OHMSS onward, Fleming never mentions Bond's comma of hair (or blue eyes)?

    Yes, lit Bond was now wearing a toupee, too :o
  • BarbelBarbel ScotlandPosts: 38,068Chief of Staff
    David, Connery wasn't wearing a toupee till GF- so Fleming was writing OHMSS and YOLT while Connery was Bond and not toupeed. He would be writing TMWTGG while GF was being shot- and Bond's hair was the least of his problems then!

    Think you might find there is photographic and anecdotal evidence to suggest SC wore a piece throughout the 7

    Don't think so, although they'd have used the standard procedures film makers have used for generations (Sinatra, Willis, ao) to cover a thinning thatch- spraying the scalp black then combing the remaining hair over it, hair thickeners, etc.

    I was under the impression that Connery wore a partial wig from Dr No onwards...

    I admit it may be difficult to wrest male eyes from Ursula Andress during the decontamination shower scene, :D but if you can then there's Sean happily running his fingers through his hair.

    No toupee in DN.
    Cover-up work in FRWL.
    Toupee from GF on.

    Yes, And I thought he looked better with out it. IMHO he
    Looks far, far better in Octopussy. Although even Roger needed
    The " Thickening " hairspray too. ;)

    Yes, I believe that he had his famous mole removed and a facelift. In fact, he looks older in AVTAK even with a facelift.

    For those of you considering a purchase, the first chapter of Steve Cole's Young Bond novel 'Shoot to Kill' is available to read thanks to the Guardian.

    I saw Shoot to Kill in Waterstones over the weekend and I noticed that the first chapter is entitled 'You Asked for It' which I thought was a nice touch as this was of course the early US title for Ian Fleming's Casino Royale. -{

    I read Shoot To Kill, just finished it and overall I was very much impressed, Sihouette man i would be interested in hearing your thoughts on the novel. There were some lovely references to Hoagy Carmichael and even the James Bond theme tune in one moment! Overall I felt Bond had matured more from Higson's novels and Cole did a fantastic job of writing for children and adults.
