Looking into putting together a weekend trip to Murren in Feb-Mar 2015, low key but obviously culminating in skiing/boarding from Piz Gloria down to Murren. Anyone is welcome to join in. If anybody has any tips regarding the local area, skiing or travel out there from UK would be greatly appreciated. Still not decided wether to drive or fly/drive, again any input welcome. This has been on my bucket list since I first went to Piz Gloria in 1975 and it's time it was done.

Hi my wife and I flew out to Geneva from Cardiff in feb/march 2011 and then commuted by train to Murren. It's a long way but v efficient train service. We got to Lauterbrunnen, took a few photos of the row of shops (where Campbell is waiting for 007) and then the ramp where he drives the VW Beetle. Took the cable car up to Murren and stayed a week in the Hotel Alpina (I think).

Have to say, when we went we timed it perfectly as the snow was still covering the ground but the area was half emptyas most had gone home the previous week!

They've refurbed Piz Gloria I understand since we went but the majestic views will be the same and that's reason enough in itself to go! Not a skier myself but was most envious of the German tourists on the piste who looked to be having a great time!

On the cable car up to Piz Gloria you have to be listening to Journey to Blofelds Hideaway on you I-pod, I think that might be Swiss law!

By the way they did a scheme where you can use the local leisure facilities such as the gym/swimming pool in Murren if booked into a local hotel when we were there- sorry cant recall the full details but definitely something to look into.

Also I recommend taking a day trip to Berne to see Gumbolds offices, now a hotel which was undergoing refurbishment when we arrived. You can't miss it when you leave the train station.

Thanks for that Smithers, now looking like we're going to drive/tunnel on the Friday and back on the Monday. Activities will be limited to Murren/Schilthorn and skiing. This is a bucket list thing so will be doing lots of ski filming from the top, several times. Main problem at the moment is finding a hotel in Murren that's not booked out for late Feb/Mar, don't really want to take the Stechelberg lift on Sat/Sun.
