John Cleese has been interviewed about the Craig Bond movies and seems to claim they're more serious because foreign countries don't understand British humour and because they want to see action sequences.
Seems a bit cynical to me.

like to se more creeping in, just the odd one line to put a smile on your face.
Is that attributed to the more serious tone? I don't think you can really make that correlation. The box office was big for all 3 Craig films because they are great films both in Bond and movies in general. Though QoS was weaker in most eyes, the turnout was still big off the CR high.
It wouldn't make sense for EON to pander to 10% of the market. They are trying to put the best and most relevant product out there like they always have. Certain eras have called for more or less humor. We are currently in an era where the general viewer desires a more serious approach
I thought the humour in Skyfall was way to cynical to really balance out with the already cynical drama that it was though. I think the prior two Craig films did a better job of finding that balance.
First two outings.
Though I find him a remarkably smart and funny person, he seems to be a bit bitter after his divorce.
Imo the lack of humor has more to do with the "closer to Fleming" "different than the others" we start again from scratch" approach of the reboot.
I am pretty sure that at the first place, the producers try to make good movies and are not trying to please certain audience groups.
Of course they can't ignore the market and I admit that in the Moore age, they where much more mainstrem in an entertaining way which was crucial back then.
Hoiwever I disagree about welshie's opinion. I found him a brilliant cast in the Brosnan age - though it may not work in the Craig period.
Dalton - the weak and weepy Bond!
My wife watched him on the Alan Carr show and said he was acting
Very oddly. )
Normally opinions can't be wrong - but, bizarrely enough - yours is
Didn't someone once say "never say never"....
You mean SM is due back ? )
I think DC humour is certainly there - anymore or too in your face would not work with this Bond. Maybe the next Bond huh
Craig's humour is Darker and should be a little cruel, More like the early Connery movies. {[]
Don't want any less, Don't want any More, This was Just right. Now I'l off to Brush my Long
Golden locks and try out these three Beds I've found. )
) Certainly SM thinks SM is due back!
Yeah I remember in the cinema really enjoying the Casino Royale scene:
Bartender: Shaken or Stirred
DC: Do I look like I give a damn.
I thought that was a great line and clever little "wipe the slate clean" kinda thing for Bond which stated he was different then the rest.
Still think he needs to up his game on the bird front though )
Maybe they stand out more ? as for the Birds , Yes Bond should be IN Frequently ! )
Indeed ! Although I prefer S&M myself )
And I thought being an unpaid mod on AJB would be painful enough
Dalton - the weak and weepy Bond!
Ah, that explains what I found in the mods' locker room then...
Only when dealing with certain people.... )
Indeed....now, when you've washed it can I have it back, please ? ;%
Superfluous use of the word 'certain' there !
