Now those Tom Ford suits I like. But, yeah, not necessarily on Bond unless he is under cover as a "Master of the Universe."
I'm actually curious as to the casual clothing Bond will wear. I'm much more interested in that over the suits. So bring on the non Tom Ford costumes.
I agree with you about the casual stuff, to me it always shows more character (plus I absolutely adore DC's personal style). And I certainly can't afford a Tom Ford wardrobe at the moment (though the jay-z song can be inspirational...)
Further to the suits, peaked lapels typically feature on dinner jackets and double-breasted suits (http://www.blacktieguide.com/Classic/Classic_Tuxedos.htm). There has been a trend in recent years to feature them on single-breasted business suits. I feel neutral on the issue, as it's a minor change most people won't notice, but peaked-lapels can look phenomenal in the right situation. The Billy Reid peacoat is a good example, though I still am hesitant to pull the trigger at over $1000 CDN despite a new job going well. Import duties are the bane of my existence .
notch looks better and more something Bond would wear I think.
Notch lapels on a single-breasted suit are certainly more traditional, and indeed what Bond has preferred over the past 50 years. Bond's only single-breasted suits with peaked lapels were the light grey suit in Casino Royale and the air force blue suit very briefly seen on the cruise ship in Diamonds Are Forever. If you don't remember that one, here's a link: http://thesuitsofjamesbond.com/the-air-force-blue-suit/
But what matters most as that the suits fit this time. Shrink-wrapped suits don't show off muscles like a tight t-shirt does.

Peaked lapels on single-breasted suits are certainly trendy now, but it's still a classic style that goes back at least to the 1930s. However, peaked lapels on single-breasted suits are really too flashy for Bond unless he is only wearing the suits for evening functions.
So just to confirm, it was a UK medium - which is an American small? Out of curiousity what are your measurements?
I remember the first time I saw a tag in a shirt that said it was a medium in Canada and a small in the US. It blew my mind that the US market changed their sizes so that what it said made them feel better - at least I assumed that was the reason as every other country listed on the tag (this was in Mexx) said medium.
For the record, the Mango jacket was a size medium, and fitted well. I'm normally a 48 in Tom Ford, a medium in the Barbour, and a medium in the Levi's Menlo.

I can't say that being a small makes me feel very good. I'd like to be a medium again! Funny thing is that suit sizes have now gone the opposite way. I used to be a 38R but now in fashion brands I need a 40L.
Are double breasted suits "in" at the moment? Seen a fair few lately in general in magazines etc
Double-breasted haven't been "in" since the early 90s. But double-breasted lapels on single-breasted suits definitely are in, which is why, I assume, Bond is being dressed in that style. It's part of Tom Ford's signature look.
I still like classic double-breasted suits and have a few. I'm wearing a double-breasted blazer today like Brosnan's in GoldenEye.

I agree I've noticed them more in the last year or so. Don't think it's due to demand though. I have also noticed a lot of the modern double breasted are cut very close to the body to be worn slim. Versus the boxy shapes that were popular in the 80s and 90s. Maybe to try and attract a bigger market of wearers?

Ive def seen a lot of actual double breasted suits lately with regards to fashion houses and marketing, even Tom Ford. Prepare yourself, maybe they are returning

I've been seeing them in magazines for the past few years, but that hasn't translated to shops. Every year there is an article in a fashion magazine or newspaper about the return of the double-breasted suit, but the predictions never came true. Most of the double-breasted suits I see on the street are the hideous low-buttoning examples from the mid 80s-early 90s. I would love to see them return again, since about half my suits are double-breasted. Tom Ford has dressed a number of celebrities at award shows in beautiful midnight blue double-breasted dinner suits reminiscent of Roger Moore's midnight blue dinner suit in The Spy Who Loved Me. But it seems like Ford is the only one going for it. Ford's wide lapels never caught on with other designers, sadly.
I don't think they were ever out of style. They just don't sell as well as SB suits.
That's right. As long as they are in the classic style of six buttons with two to close they are in style. However, they have certainly been out of fashion for 20 years.
No, but if it fit him it would look fantastic. It's a really nice outfit except for the atrocious fit.
The shadow from the flash doesn't help but the suit is obviously too tight in the chest and stomach areas , the frames are oversized , and the brown suede chelsea boots don't match so well with the suit ...
Let's not be too harsh on him , he could have paired all this with a mustache and a beanie :v
I think he should have had turn ups on the trousers, seeing that the suit is a DB I like the C@J suede Chelsea boots,
ive had 4 pairs of those in the last 25 years
I read an article, about Edward Duke of Windsor, about him wearing suede shoes ,with his suit. One of his courtiers over heard the comment made by someone nearby. The courtier rebuked the whisperer in a manor only a Buck-house person could, along the lines of "He is the king so he knows whats best" . a right royal put down

Indeed. The brown suede shoes are a stylish choice. James Bond, however, would only wear black shoes with such a suit. Even brown calf would be too continental or American for Bond. Turn-ups are not necessary, though I would prefer them too.
Hi, thanks to those who own the jacket and replied - I ended up ordering in a size medium and large (large for layering up). Fantastic jacket, and as everyone says, for £60 you can't really go wrong. Can't wait for first images from set in Switzerland when filming begins next month.
Had to choose European L, usually I'm an M, but I was just to tight around the chest when trying to close the zipper. If worn like on the Mango page M would have been ok.
Hi, would you mind sharing your normal chest size, height and weight? I usually take a medium and ordered this from Mango in a medium - hope it fits, as I do want to be able to zip it up.
Many thanks -{
Sure it will be fine... I am a 16 / 41 in TF and a large in most ( BR and Barbour). I ordered a L and XL just in case. XL went back. L gives me a nice fitted look with a shirt and merino jumper beneath. Quality jacket and an absolute steal....
Since Skyfall he has had a serious problem with wearing his suits too tight. I think he best outfit was the double-breasted dinner jacket at the 2007 Academy Awards: http://thesuitsofjamesbond.com/daniel-craig-at-the-79th-academy-awards/. The fit is great and the whole outfit looks very elegant. Double-breasted can look good on him.
I love double breasted, I wear them sometimes and I have been complimented quite a few times. Don't listen to a magazine ,do what you like. Just like how my hair style came back in fashion lol.
Though totally agree that it looks way to small on him. I wish designers would get away from all this skin tight crap and jackets way too short. The other day some kid asked me why my suit jacket was so long (whilst his vents were about to burst and his button fly away). I told him, thats because it fits properly lol.

Murphys law, mine arrived this morning! Just been wearing it with a black merino crew my tf108 lookie likies. A little top gun but cool otherwise.
Cant help but think what do people think of Bond being in a turtle/roll/polo neck again? Not sure if TF do anything along those lines but it might look quite good underneath the speculative jacket Mantis posted.
It's a bit of cliché but I recon Dan could pull it off with a shoulder holster, crawling through an air vent. Could be wrong but the last one screen sported was Die Another Day?
