I'm surprised no one has mentioned TND! He's a well known media figure who does *nothing* to hide the fact that he's a villain. Worse, he's a news provider who publicly admits he fabricates news stories! Then, his whole villain plot is - you guessed it - fabricating news stories! Why isn't anyone questioning this man who very publicly acts like a super-villain?
Dude, what movie did YOU see? In the one I saw, he only admitted to fabricating stories to Bond & Lin, in public he acted like a paragon of virtue. ?:) Next time you watch it I suggest you face the screen.
"So that's what I've been doing wrong all these years." )

In the cocktail party he's being "charming" by telling anecdotes about ginning up news stories because of poker debts in exchange for money. And he's plainly evil when he's conducting his daily recap with his division heads, who are media company employees - not villain company employees! On the other hand, I don't know when he ever acted like a "paragon of virtue." Wait, are you being sarcastic? ?:)

Funny stories for high-paying hardcore fans. May or may not be true.

Division heads are on the payroll and in on the world domination plot, they also know they'll be seeing Mr. Stamper should they decide to switch teams or blow whistle.

Watch his speech to the world before Bond pulls the plug. -{
TND. Hated the plot, just hated it. Still do. Rupert Murcoch as a Bond villain? Really? Creating a war between UK and China for ratings???? For a media contract with China??? Bond villains were not insufferable, insipid medial moguls. At the least they were killing thugs like Grant in FRWL and at the most, men like Goldfinger or Blofeld, who were on the same level as men like Reinhard Heydrich or Heinrich Himmler. I was just bowled over at the sheer week, amateurish idea of this story.
Now, the idea of creating a war between the UK and a smaller nation that doesn't pack NUCLEAR MISSILES for some political or economic benefit may seem more plausible, but just because they may have wanted to get in a dig at Murdoch is a pretty poor excuse for creating a villain. They might just as well have used an antagonist like Donald Trump. He can be irritating as well, be he is no Goldfinger either.
Anyway, I *THOUGHT* it was well established that Carver was on the fast track to the laughing academy...
That's just it - I don't think this is well established at all in the film. For us as the audience it is, but for the people in the film world - the readers, viewers, listeners of the Carver Media Group - there is no indication that they think he's nuts even though he's acting super evil bonkers!
When Paris is talking to Elliot and he blurts out "NOT TO ME IT DOESN'T!" I like the look on her face- it's like she's finally realising just how insane he's becoming. Of course, if she knew about his stealth boat I dare say she might have just run away from him...

YOLT, Moonraker, DAF, and DAD. Unrealistic doesn't bother me too much though as the first two are some of the most enjoyable for me.
I'm with You on this. I don't really gripe about Bond films being unrealistic because the series as a whole has always required that You stretch the limitations of what is plausible as You watch. I mean Goldfinger is widely accepted as the greatest Bond film ever by a large percentage of fans, yet Oddjob runs around decapitating statues with bowler hats lol. We tend to pick on certain films and give others a pass for whatever reason, but to answer the original question I would have to say Die Another Day. It's pretty much crossed the bridge from espionage thriller to science fiction film when Bond started chasing villains around through an ice palace in an invisible car lol. I still don't mind it as much as most Bond fans seem to.

Depends on the lesbian.
I cannot suspend disbelief in a film that objectifies itself with self-references or fourth-wall breaking business. Jaws takes me right out of THE SPY WHO LOVED ME and MOONRAKER. The effect of this indestructible character is to undermine any sense of risk or endangerment. He turns the films into a cartoon in which anything goes. Also, with regard to MOONRAKER, I just think it was a bad idea to send Bond into outer space.
CASINO ROYALE (2006) is unrealistic in a different way. No organization could function with that interpretation of M. M's distrust of Bond and the adversarial relationship, as well as making Bond a novice who can't do anything right, is not realistic. It is agenda-driven and will date the film more quickly than bell-bottom pants.
The top 7 Bond films: 1) Dr No. 2) From Russia With Love. 3) Thunderball. 4) On Her Majesty's Secret Service. 5) For Your Eyes Only. 6) The Living Daylights. 7) Licence to Kill.
When it comes to the Bonds, we can fault Fleming as much as EON. I think he wanted Bond to be in film as early as DN. This is where we begin to get over the top villains and the secret lairs and cinematic plots. EON just took his work and even went further with it, though at least in GF they made the whole robbery plot just a ruse to get the bomb in place - which made much more sense, since it would have been very improbable for GF to empty even a couple of truck loads let alone empty the vaults. So as much as I admire GF and it is usually considered the definitive film of the series, I would have to put it right up there with the others when it comes to one of the most unrealistic films. I didn't consider GF himself to be that unrealistic - there have been plenty of historical villains with just as much eccentric characteristics as GF and certainly there have been no lack of bodyguard brutes like Oddjob who wouldn't hesitate to decapitate someone - they just don't do it with flying hats.
Yes, I'd put GF, YOLT, DAF, MR, TSWLM, FAVTAK, DAD & TND right in the top of the list. Some are just remakes of YOLT. They are as fantastic as the weather controlling plot of Our Man Flint - and let's face it..how far fetched is the plot of the second Flint film from MR? Where I point the finger at EON is for some of these films attempting to be as silly as the Flint films but expecting us to take the character and plots seriously. I really enjoy the Flints - because I know they're parodies - and very entertaining ones, but at least they own up to being parodies.
I'm probably alone in this, but I'd put these film's on the same entertainment level as the far out EON entries. I'm not saying those entries don't have quality or lack scenes that are some of the best in the series - I just prefer watching the films that are more realistic and have a character who behaves more like a real spy than superhero.

Very interesting. Yes, Fleming indeed saw the future!

Whoah whoah, TND? I find it to be right on the razor's edge myself. Kind of in the same ballpark as TB in that it takes a ludicrous plot & presents it in just a serious enough way that it makes you almost forget how ultimately ungetawaywithitable it all is. )
I must admit to having a great liking for TND ;% . It came along at a very stressful period in my life, and for two hours took me blissfully away to 007land.
I remember leaving the cinema after watching aTND and was on a high {[]

None of the Bond films are realistic, so for me the relevant question is whether each film makes sense in terms of its own fantasy world and its own aesthetic grammar. On that basis, some of the most outlandishly fantastic movies in the series, such as YOLT, are more convincing than some of the grittier, more 'realistic' ones, such as QOS.
Critics and material I don't need. I haven't changed my act in 53 years.
