And can I assume from your avatar that you, like me, wish Clive Owen had gotten a shot at OO7?

You assume correctly :) . He was the man for the job. Craig is great, but Owen would have been simply perfect. The closest actor to Connery I can think of, very similar charisma and presence.

He should have continued earlier. For me Dalton is the 80s Bond. He was ready in 1981 for FYEO, and the grittier tone suited him perfectly. He should have been introduced then.

As it is, the best actor ever to play Bond only did two films (but what two films!). Unfair, considering he only did one more than non-actor Lazenby.

He should have starred at least in one more, say in 1992. With a solid story, more traditional, a good villain who wants to destroy the world (say, Anthony Hopkins just after Silence of the Lambs), a good supporting cast, and a good marketing campaing, Dalton could really have established himself.

Dalton is one of the best, and probably the closest to Fleming both in looks and behaviour.

I'm not as convinced as you that Anthony Hopkins would make a great Bond villain because of what you brought up. It would seem like a knee jerk reaction to have him because of the success he had with being a villain in another film. And up to that point, it wasn't like the films with bigger named villains, (Christopher Lee and Christopher Walker for instance) did a lot writing wise with what they had. I think Hopkins could have fallen in a similar boat.

I said Hopkins off the top of my head. But now that I think about it, a duel Dalton-Hopkins could have been epic.

One of the reasons i like dalton as bond is that he has trained as an actor and the same reason i like others from the series including Julian glover, Michael gothard, Christopher lee, Chris walken, Jill Bennett, Robert davi, Patrick bauchau, Se.n bean etc

If Dalton had continued then I would have had a bond film during my favourite childhood years (circa 1992/1993). It still haunts me that I never grew up with a bond.
