Daniel Craigs fashion influenced heavily by Steve McQueen

SMBS.jpg

Inspiration for the 3 piece blue pin stripe from the end of Casino Royale when he stands over white with the machine gun in hand.

SM2.jpg

Scary how much alike they are in this photo, it is clear with his fair hair and blue eyes Daniel saw McQueen as a good icon to model himself on. The suit is similar to the cheque pattern suit in Skyfall in the scene where M tells him he has passed his test.

image.jpg

Probably the influence for the QOS Harrington, the glasses are Persol the same brand as Daniels in Casino Royale.

SM3.jpg

This one is easy, QOS when he visits Mathis to ask for his help, the whole look is copied right down to the Dessert Boots.

SM4.jpg

Peacoat, of course Shanghai scenes.

SM5.jpg

The leather jacket. Take your pick of Casino Miami scenes or the Venlo from skyfall.

There are McQueen elements to all three Bond films Daniel has done so far, its clear he has a lot of input and expect it to continue. So what next?

SM_brown.jpg

A brown Shawl neck?, we have seen Daniel wear a grey one lately he appears to love this type of cardigan.

SM_suede.jpg

Brown Suede short coat?

SM_tweed.jpg

One of McQueens most Iconic looks from Bullit dark tweed coat with blue turtle neck?. I don't think the world is ready for the return of the turtle neck.

I'd always thought the three piece suit at the end of CR was based on
Connery's in GF. As they have similar colouring, I guess wardrode
Mistresses will use similar colour palettes, for clothes, as for style
They'd have to be up to date with what ever's fashionable.
So movie wise I concur with you. -{ but in his private life DC seems
To dress very scruffy ( expensively ) but very casual. :))

The most obvious nod to McQueen in "QoS" was the Talamone outfit -

My take on Talamone on a budget for all my UK Bond brothers.

    2014_08_01_14_07_32.jpg

    2014_08_01_14_07_43.jpg

The slim fit Jeans are by next £25 they have that retro cream, taupe colour and feel
The Shirt is by Daniel Hechtor for John Lewis and cost £20 great quality and they have the over size collar like the Tom Ford shirts.
The Cardigan is by Hawick which is stocked by House of Fraser it was originally £75 I got it on sale for £30 its Navy and not black though.
The Boots are from Primark and cost £15 the reason I chose these ones were they are the closest colour match to the Ryder 111 I could find and the edge of the rubber sole is black.
The sunglasses are Tom Form Marko TF144 18V from Skyfall they fit my face better than the TF108 I got a deal at redhhotsunglasses.co.uk for £135.00 with an online voucher.

The good thing about the next jeans are you can swap for a Navy polo like the one I bought below that looks like the sunspel and you then have the Casio Royale look. The Polo is from Lyle and Scott and is reduced at present from Slaters menswear from £35 down to £25 It does not have the pocket on the breast but it is slim fitted and mesh like the sunspel the colour is identical next to the real thing.

    2014_08_01_14_16_44.jpg

Another challenge I took on was Madagascar. The shirt is from Burtons there are no real comparisons to the Hawaii shirt from Casino Royale so anything with the colours is pretty much the best you will do other than pay magnolia the £100 for their reproduction. The shirt is on sale just now for £7.00 the t-shirt underneath is a wide neck of set cream and grey combination from Primark at £3 the light grey chinos were on sale in Next down from £25 to £10.00.

Thanks to Mantis for his videos on how to be a tight wad Bond dresser :))

Always good to see what people have bought clothes-wise as alternatives...even better when you hear how they fit and feel...

    DC really does have the McQueen style downpat - at least he followed someone with true style -{

The similarities between Craig's Bond wardrobe and Steve McQueen's wardrobe unquestionably go beyond coincidence, but I am not convinced that DC himself is behind this. As far as I am aware, there's only one piece of Bond wardrobe that we know for certain originated with DC and not with Jany Temime or Lindy Hemming etc, and that's the Billy Reid pea coat. There may be others, but I think that's the only one we know for certain (correct me if I'm wrong, InternationalExports, as you have the contact in the wardrobe department). As others have pointed out, DC's personal wardrobe is not terribly impressive. He wears some nice things, but most of those nice things originated on film sets - like the Layer Cake leather jacket, the C&J shoes, Tom Ford clobber etc etc. He'll certainly never make a best-dressed celebrity list for his day-to-day attire. So I'm leaning towards the roots of the Steve McQueen influence lying not with DC but elsewhere.

That said, there is a link between DC and Steve McQueen. For years they've been trying to get a bio-pic off the ground. Various names have been touted including Jeremy Renner and Brad Pitt, but the one that comes up most often is DC - and he's the one that Steve McQueen's widow most wants! There's certainly more than a passing resemblance between the two and the Bond wardrobe strengthens this connection.

Hi TDE some good points. Daniel has been seen in pictures wearing a lot of shawl neck cardigans. I have seen loads of interviews on you tube from the time of all 3 films there is stories from Daniel talking about meetings in hotel rooms with items laod out and Daniel having his say of what to wear in the films like the CR trunks or visiting Armani with wardrobe to look at the leather jacket from CR. I think there also similaraties with the film roles he takes on. I will ask Russell next time I speak with him see if I can find out how much of the wardrobe ideas are Daniels. As for the McQueen biopic I believe Damien Lewis has signed up for that gig he actually looks even more like in facial features than Daniel does. I think its a shame Brosnan did the Thomas Crown Affair remake such a comlex charachter I reckon Daniel would have nailed it

Smoking or has a packet in his pocket. :(

Fascinating thread...thanks for all the pics. :x

I know that Steve McQueens widow has said if they ever make a biopic about him, she wants Craig in the lead role...as I've mentioned before, there is a very similar scene in Bullitt, where McQueen looks in the mirror just like Craig in CR.

The similarities seem to run much more than just looks...would be interesting to know exactly why/who brought these style similarities together.

Hi Lexi maybe we could put some questions to his agency and see if Daniel would be willing to answer a few questions for AJB. Maybe we should all come up with 5 good questions and see where we can get. From reading back post this forum has always supported Daniel when others wrote him off after his initial appointment. He does not like giving interviews to journos as he is a private man but we are at the advantage that we are not journos and our questions would be about Bond alone. GolGot to be worth a try?. May come up with suggestions in your Daniel related post and we can all agree

Well in my fantasy land, Daniel is masquerading on this board....and at the very least knows it exists...

But in the real world, does he know of this website? I'm not sure...

We would need a contact, someone who has influence, and could get someone from his team to take the time and read some of our threads...however, I doubt they have the time, nor inclination... I may sound cynical, but what's in it for them? They don't need the publicity, and how many high end magazines, radio shows, TV stations get in touch daily for this exact reason...

However, if anyone has any contacts or suggestions, nothing ventured...and you never know... :D

I am a great believer if you dont ask you dont get, I work as an insurance large loss adjuster some of the production companies at Shepperton are in my remit I have spentsome time down there dealing with claims for injured fx and stunt men if we agree on the questions I reckon I could get a good contact to try. I dont think the publicity thing really comes in to it I reckon it would be more of a timing issue.
