Another Skyfall Mistake.
Patrice
So, I was watching Skyfall again today, and I noticed yet another mistake/flaw. When Patrice and Bond were fighting on the train, MI6 had most likely assumed that Patrice had the list. So if Moneypenny hadn't missed the shot, wouldn't that mean Patrice would fall into the stream and they wouldn't get the list back?
Thoughts?
Thoughts?
Don't mess with Patrice, Chief.

that's détente commrade I don't have it, you don't have it
Into it ready to suspend your belief. ) for me I can't believe
Governments hold information on disc, and many times
Don't even encrypt it 8-) or have a default system to wipe
The memory.
Besides Patrice was only holding it in his hand at the time, so better it be lost in the bottom of a river than in the hands of bad folks.
Do you think they should have beamed him to the Enterprise and then direct to an MI6 holding cell?
Seriously these 'Another Skyfall Mistake' threads keep on getting dumber and dumber and show no mistake at all.
He could do that every time someone close points a gun at him or tries to stab him with a knife too. That would save him from even getting shot at and potentially cut.
Seriously though, he did get it from around Patrice's neck and had a hold of the lanyard it was attached too. If he hadn't have been shot he possibly would have done just that.
I'm not going to second-guess Bond's decision making because it's been ages since I grappled with an international assassin on the top of a moving train going through a tunnel.
What, it must have been at least 1983 since you have!
they are not factual documentaries ,and as ASP9MM says these mistakes go on and on, BUT, and its a big but, we are all entitled to our observational opinion, for open forum discussion, and if someone has an opinion on what they think they have seen, then hopefully the more knowledable of us in our specific field of expertise can set our fellow enquisitors on the
right path,
Train top fighting in full evening gown and stiletto heels ! Imagine
My embarrassment, on leading that most others do it in sensible

You know I've been doing my thing.
Indeedy, folks are entitled to opinions, but what we are seeing here is something that has been happening to too many film viewers for the last twenty years or so. Films have been dumbed down so much now and for so long that when you get a film that makes you think or you have to fill in the gaps using your own initiative, loads of people are utterly lost and confused. People expect the dumb assistant or love interest that tags along to ask what's happening so that the main character can then explain to them, and therefore the audience too, just what is happening. Brosnans films are peppered with this, and when Casino Royale came along, people were confused when they had to think for themselves.
Skyfall is the same. And a good example is with the people asking the really daft question of why MI6 didn't bother to get the hard drive back and it's an obvious plot goof because it's forgotten about. Just because we don't have a blatant scene showing how MI6 took over the island and obtained everything on it, including the hard drive and all relevant material connected to it (despite the big computer room being shown for a good ten minutes, and Silva's personal computer in Q's hands), they can't seem to be able to work it out for themselves that it was pretty obviously recovered and is now a moot point.
Dumbed down cinema and programming. It really drives me nuts.
No no no! With a skilled transporter operator, you can beam him directly to the brig, then you don't need to waste time beaming him to a holding cell!
I agree with Richard Dean Anderson, best known for his roles McGyver and O'Neill in Stargate SG1. In both cases he ended up as Co Executive producer of the shows..
'An ongoing battle I have had from day one working in the tv industry is this idea that of dumbing things down for the viewer. If only I had been in the position to say "You're Fired!" the first time I heard someone say that. How dare anyone even consider taking an intelligent idea and tearing away the wit in order to make it easier for people to understand? That's an insult to me as an actor, and certainly to the audience.'
I agree 100%!
On TV for many years the highest rated comedy was Frasier -{
In no way was this well written, educated and witty series dumbed down.
Proving the audience wants" Quality " and even though many " Executives "
Might think we " plebs" are too stupid to understand the many subtle nuances
And themes that run through many good stories.
Surprisingly given the chance, most of us can !
Amen to that, brother -{
No mistake. Things would have been much easier if Eve hadn't missed. No wonder Bond tortures Eve for the rest of her life with sexual innuendo.
I agree, not everything is dumbed down. But the audience demographic for Frasier is very different from a 'cinema blockbuster'. If you look at the majority of comedy programmes around now, Frasier is quite unique.
Here here!
As a kid, many younger people don't seem to know. Some examples
In a shop recently the assistant said she would need her calculator to work
Out the vat. I told her the vat would be( as I'd worked it out in my head)
She looked at me as if I was Stephen Hawkin
( 10% + 5% + 2.5% = 17.5%, it's very easy, even for Me ) )
During a recent thunder storm, I was able to tell a few younger friends that the storm
Was 10 miles away, then that it was about 7.5 miles etc.None of them knew about counting seconds, sound travels at around 2.5 seconds a mile. So you can roughly work out
How far away it is and its direction. )
Now it's not that I'm smart ( I think I've proven, I'm not over my many posts) but this
Is all basic stuff I remember from school outings and field trips. )
Then again with our crazy health and safety laws, perhaps kids don't get the
Opportunities we older one's did for getting outside. )
It's the writer's job to write a script that will appeal to many different types of audiences with different levels of knowledge and the director's job to shoot the film in such a way that it appeals to different audiences with different levels of knowledge. A director might shoot a scene with shadows across a character's face that resemble prison bars to demonstrate, symbolically, that a character is trapped psychologically. The cineophiles will appreciate it and it will go over the head of most viewers, but the scene should still be interesting to all levels of viewers even if they don't dig the mise en scene.
And probably a mutant.

My favorite bit is when Bond is right next to Patrice in the SUV, and rather than take a shot, he banters with Moneypenny and then for some reason just steers the Range Rover into the other car to knock it off the road. For an assassin, Bond doesn't seem all that interested in killing Patrice. That certainly would have been the easiest way to stop him and, if necessary, recover the hard drive.
But, then, we're supposed to believe that Silva is so doggone clever, that he is able to set into motion his evil plan exactly because Patrice is able to escape from Bond. Oh, wait, he could have accomplished the same thing by just hacking into the hard drive . . . which apparently was more beyond his means than getting into MI:6's network.
1. Ordinarliy it's better to capture bad guys than kill them because then you can question them, which is much more difficult to do when they're dead.
2. Silva wasn't able to hack into MI:6's network until after Q downloaded the hard drive.
