    That's an awesome review. Colonel Sun is just so far ahead of every other continuation novel that it's almost as if Fleming wrote it himself. I have enjoyed many of the other efforts since then, but if this one really is that good, we're in for quite a treat! If true, I hope Horowitz writes more.

    I'm hoping that he is asked to Pen a second Novel -{

    True words from somebody who clearly understands.
    Colonel Sun ranks with the best of Fleming. If TM is in the same league we are in for a huge treat and I will publicly forgive IFP for the abuse they have inflicted on me with the celebrity trilogy providing, of course, they send me my cut of TM sales for recommending Horowitz.

    It is a Shame that Amis never wrote any more Bond Stories after CS.

    Indeed it was a shame, but he had plans for a while to do a second one and later a short story. Neither came to anything sadly. :(

    He was going to kill off Bond in the second Book, I think?

    In the later short story, yes.

    I've been meaning to collate all that is known about Amis' later Bond projects (the novel and the short story) into an article but I've not gotten around to it yet. I think there's an interesting story to tell there. And it's a very overlooked area, so it's right up The Bondologist Blog's street! :) -{

    Yes, I must. I've got a few things on Amis and Colonel Sun in the works. :)

    I thought he was going to kill bond in From Russia with Love? Any way, I guess your series isn't truly successful as Bond until you kill it off and the people make you bring it back, just like Sherlock

    This book might be useful to you for that, SM, if you don't have it already: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Letters-Kingsley-Amis-Zachary-Leader/dp/0006387837 It's going very cheaply right now.

    Thank you, Barbel. Yes, I have that brilliant book in my collection and I agree that it's a great Amis resource to tap into. :) -{

    Has anyone read Horrowitz's Sherlock books, and if they are any good? i am thinking of picking them up as well. Or if anyone has read any of his books, can they tell me about his writing style?

    So Amazon says that Trigger Mortis is gonna be 624 pages on paper back, so quite a bit longer than even Carte Blanche, huh?

    Hopefully it's not because they're using that dreadful big type. :v

    That was a good piece, thanks for linking that SM.

    So... 13 story outlines minus 6 from existing stories leaves 7. FYEO, FAVTAK and "Risico" for sure were based on story outlines, I think TLD was too, leaves 3.
    We know QoS wasn't, "007 in NY" and OP are unlikely to have been, and I believe "Rarity" and "Lady" weren't either. Take away MoW leaves 2 more outlines still to be used.
    There's a bit of guesswork there of course! :)

    I think the most obvious one is Moonraker, and it would make such a great flick in modern times
  • AlphaOmegaSinAlphaOmegaSin EnglandPosts: 10,926MI6 Agent
    But obviously it would need to have a different Title.

    I don't know whether to pre-order it, as from memory. I had pre ordered
    Carte Blanche, yet it was available in the local Waterstones before my copy
    Was even delivered. :#
    On a similar vein, has anyone heard of any special editions/ signed copies
    Which will be on sale ?

    Haven't seen any news on special editions but for the previous 2 books for independent book shops they did black covers and
    signed and numbered copies at full price. Usually when a book is launched it's immediately half price (£10 instead of £20) at main shops like WH Smith and Waterstones. When I was looking to get a first edition, Waterstones produced a 2nd edition (which I didn't want). probably due to quick sales volumes. The ultimate cheap version would be at ASDA I think.
    I don't bother with the encased "Bentley" versions as they cost way too much.
    Nearer the time I will ask the independent bookshop if they have a different version.
    So WH Smith for the basic version and elsewhere if they have an independent bookshop version.

    I nickname the 1979 film - Moneyraker. You could just call it Drax.

    There were characteristics of Hugo Drax in Gustav Graves in Die Another Day. So it's been covered twice,

    but they still haven't done the Card game where his cheating is exposed. (maybe Octopussy dice throwing)
    (unless there are parallels in Casino Royale film?)
    I'd like to see Bond's car chasing Drax's Mercedes SL and Krebs releasing the news print on to the road.
    (You can really visualise that in your mind.)
    and the chalk cliff face collapsing on Bond and Gala Brand.

    Signed/numbered edition from Goldsboro Books. I pre-ordered the signed/numbered edition of Solo from them and they were great.
