Billy Reid Alternative

Gap- Most like the Billy Reid I have found as they have copied the pocket lappells.

http://www.gap.co.uk/browse/product.do?pid=000977116000&tid=gupl000191&kwid=1&ap=13&sem=true&mkwid=aHakRTWGproduct+ads0

Its not perfect but for £54.95 its cheap and if you size down so it body fits it will pull of the desired look.

:D

    Thanks for the heads up, got one in a medium :)
    They also do free postage returns so it's no worries if it doesn't fit right.

    Guys, if you can get the Primark version, it's got the faux leather on the collar and doesn't have the nautical anchor buttons like the Gap version. The Gap version is too chunky having compared it with BR original.

    Nice find Arthur. I own a Billy Reid and its good. But the most accurate copy I found is this one by John Lewis. Side by side they are identical of your willing to spend £140.00 http://m.johnlewis.com/mt/www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-2-in-1-peacoat-dark-navy/p1171675?un_jtt_v_pdp=yes&un_jtt_v_from_product=un_product_14#page_loaded

    The problem is always that the BR peacoat has those sexy peak lapels. All other elements aside, its the lapels of the BR that make it so distinctive. I've yet to see another peacoat with them!

    Haha! Well, the size chart says the medium size chest measures 27".

    They have a men's version:

    It has better proportions too.

    I was able to view the primark coat today against my Billy Reid, the cut is very close, the material is obviously not of the same quality however they nailed it with the style and length. For £23.00 it is the closest thing out there. I bought one to keep my BR in good condition for special occassions. My wife has'nt realised so far I bought another coat. One of the best frugal options I have come across yet. -{

    I don't mean to sound full of myself, but I've found the best alternative. Peaked lapels, not-too-high collar, center vent, welt pockets, and flapped pockets. The only gripe is the tabs on the cuffs, which could be removed. I'll let it speak for itself.

    Unfortunately, it is black and not navy.

    I suppose it depends on if you're going by "color in real life" or "color as seen in film" as in the film it mostly appears black.

    Hi its good in respect of the lapels and collar, however and with all due respect for a great find. As someone said it is black. But there does not appear to be lapel pocket at the bottom. The cuffs have button adjusters and the BR cuts of just below the waste the bannan republic one is 3/4 length which goes half way down the bum

    I will video review the primark one next week hopefully this explains it better

    I'll be interested in the review. Primark doesn't have a website for shopping in the US, so it will be good to see some of their products in action, as it were.

    It does have flapped pockets (with hidden studs) and is available in navy on bananarepublic.gap.eu

    Cheers OSS117,

    This is the only one I can see on there but its missing the breast pockets and is a 4 button instead of a 3 its a brighter blue its a real shame the collar and lapels are perfect and at £250 for £150 more you could have the real thing http://bananarepublic.gap.eu/browse/product.do?vid=1&pid=000129419U014-17573 again a nice find best collar style match I have seen.

    Word of warning on the Primark as Matis has said before on a post the BR is a midnight blue, primark appear to have some dye consistancy issues the one I bought is slightly lighter than Navy but some are Navy you could pick two off a shelve and see the variations in colour.

    The overview text says "•Four exterior pockets" so I assume the breast pockets must be there even if we don't see them.
    But I do agree with you about the colour not being dark enough and the price tag, too steep for a close-enough.
    As far as I'm concerned, I'll wait for Dan take on this item because his replicas of QoS harrington and Y-3 are just perfect !

    Yeah he does nice work, looking forward to seeing if he can pull of as good a BR.

    Anything dark appears black in low lighting, so if you're only going to be wearing it at night black won't make a difference. In the scene when he's wearing the cap it looks navy.

    I still think the best pea coat alternative is to just buy an actual navy pea coat. I have one and the quality is amazing for the price. They are not exactly like the BR but still are a fine buy. Keeps you WARM too. Here is one for just over $100!

    A bad pic of mine...

    One can easily make the argument for owning both the BR peacoat and a Navy Surplus peacoat. Functionally the BR is a more formal/stylish replacement for a leather jacket.

    Hi guys, I am waiting on a new Replica of the CR Armani I ordered yesterday from Leather Fiction UK. when it comes through I will review both on a video blog. I will explain my prior comments about the BR's length and fit compared to other standard Pea coats which are normally 3/4 length. I will give my opinion as to why the Primark find is so good compared to the previous Pea coat I purchased. -{

    One thing too that I did with my surplus coat is have some alterations done (not seen in the pic). I replaced the Navy anchor buttons with the same-ish ones as BR, and had the length taken up by about 1.5in, as well as a little around the sides...

    I did that too, replace the plastic anchor buttons with dark horn buttons. However, I did mine two years before Skyfall! Beware that a many surplus peacoats are black and not navy. Mine is navy and from the late 1940s.
