    I remember as a teen working in a local bar and when YOLT was first shown, they
    had it on the big screen and it was like a football match. The place was full, and
    everyone watching the film. :))
    I first saw it as a teen in the theatre, and it awed me. In the midst of the Kung Fu craze, it totally held up, just as it does to this day. -{
    Dalton & Connery rule. Brozz was cool.

    YOLT's pacing was mentioned above:

    When these films were made in the 60s, they were specifically designed and cut to be watched in a crowded cinema. Nowadays we're watching them under very different conditions, at home either alone or with very few others.
    An example of what I mean: immediately after Bond's "A drop in the ocean" line there's a meaningless shot of the car speeding along, inserted purely to give a packed house time to chuckle/groan at the wisecrack before the next line (which moves the plot to its next location). This, btw, is an old trick used frequently by the Marx Bros, and can seem to slow a film down under home viewing conditions.

    In a large cinema, both films work superbly with YOLT having sheer spectacle on its side. At home, GF probably gives a better impression (better characters and dialogue). I'm old, I saw both of these in cinemas in the 60s and was blown away. Home viewing has pros and cons, and some films survive it better than others.

    Similar to the Parachute Scene in the PTS of TSWLM. I've read that those watching it in the Cinema back in 77 cheered during that Scene -{

    They certainly did!

    (As did SF audiences when the Aston Martin is revealed)

    When I saw SF, nobody in the Cinema apart from me did anything when the Aston was shown. I let out a quite 'Here we go!' :))

    When love was such an easy game to play.
    The cinema I watched YOLT in had a huge screen, and the reveal of the volcano set was breathtaking.

    To answer my own original question, I much prefer YOLT because
    1) The title song is nicer
    2) The fights are SO much better choreographed
    3) The photography is peerless
    4) The pacing is racing
    5)  Aki is more fetching than Jill (IMHO)
    6) Ending with a (rather large) bang is better than watching a big guy get sucked out an airplane window
    7) Japan is WAY cooler than Kentucky

    I much prefer GF. Funnily enough, I could almost use your exact list applied to GF.
    1) Title song. Yes, YOLT is a nice song. But GF is THE Bond song, the template for the Bond sound. and the performance by Shirley Bassey is just...well, Shirley Bassey.
    2)The fights. IMO the Bond-Oddjob fight is way more memorable than anything YOLT has to offer. if anything YOLT follows the GF path (the fight on Osato's office is quite obvious)
    3) The photography. Actually, I recently saw GF in Bluray and was amazed at the vibrant colors, the luxury that comes across.Again, GF sets the path for what was to follow.
    4) This one amazed me. "The pacing is racing". IMO YOLT suffers from an at times unbearably slow pace, consequence of trying to showcase too much Japan's traditions (sumo fight, traditional wedding...). Really boring stuff. In contrast GF has to this day one of the best paces of the whole series. It just flows so well.
    5)Jill, Tilly, Pussy...no contest there IMHO really.
    6) Ending with a very bad special effects bang edited with obvious stock footage of a volcano eruption, is IMO far worse than the Fort Knox battle,and the suspense filled fight with Oddjob and nuclear device deactivation. For a fair comparison that's GF's ending. That's Goldfinger's demise. The plane scene is just the epilogue.
    7) Japan might be way cooler than Kentucky for tourism and such (and I'm not even 100% sure). But GF is way cooler than YOLT.
    8) I have to mention this one. The Aston Martin runs circles and circles around Little Nellie. It's probably still the coolest gadget Bond ever had.

    Goldfinger. Hands down.

    It was waaaaay more enjoyable. Whenever its on TV, I stop and watch it. If YOLT is on...i keep channel surfing unless there's nothing else on... :))

    YOLT beats GF in setting, but GF is all-around more well-rounded and wins on its plot and villain.

    GF is the superior film no doubt. But I prefer YOLT for many personal reasons. Mostly the fun factor, the action, and of course, Aki.
