I don't think casting Cleese as q was a good idea in the first place ,he is a funny guy but I think the character of q is not a fool - as Cleese played him. if anyone found out they were being replaced in their job by John Cleese I'm sure it wouldn't be taken as a compliment- Mr wishaw is wonderful re invention of q and a real breath of fresh air.
Mr Cleese , I think is a Norwegian blue Q.

    Thunderbird Too.

I liked Mr Cleese as R, because the character had a "bumbling background" aspect to him that worked. He almost works in the final Castle Thaine scene of TWINE, and his last scene with Samantha Bond in DAD.
But Q as a character is a foil for comedy, such as Mr Llewellyn provided, and Mr Wishaw does now. Q himself is neither a comedian or a clown, he has integrity, a slightly eccentric, dedicated and loveable genius. The Q scene in DAD is awful. Too self referential, it feels like a parody. Iffy writing and a comedy routine approach do not work. I think the change from a veteran mechanic style Q to a young digital era one was a clever touch too.

Very sorry to learn Mr Cleese has been bad mouthing the franchise, (killing any hope he could reappear in the process.) but the cold fact is, the style had to change. When the jokes become a problem instead of pleasure, retooling is required. Maybe he has been doing it purely for the publicity it will bring? Sometimes people chasing publicity will do very odd things!
This is Thunderbird 2, how can I be of assistance?

He gets royalties from all the Python stuff, so I don't think it has to do with money, right? I mean, can you really go bankrupt by paying alimony?. He's probably bitter about not being asked to reprise Q, after all Judi Dench reprised M with Craig (even though she looked much younger in GE and CR was a reboot).

He was def skint the other year - fully admitted it in an interview somewhere and was quite open about everything

So the intellectualized AJB case against Cleese for not liking the Craig Bond is that he's bitter, jealous, old, not funny any more and bust.

Couldn't be he just doesn't like the po-faced seriousness if the Craigs and prefers the more lightheated Brosnan tone, could it?

I heard him mention it on Norton, but can't recall how the subject came up, was more watching for KP :o

Knew that was his on the record opinion, but wasn't aware of when he repeatedly brought it up?

I think it's a case of he's said it and as he's been in the press lately (promoting his book), then it's repeated regularly....I think he wanted the more 'light-hearted tone' of the films to continue as he probably would have had a decent payday for years to come...

Cleese had other theories about the new films as well, saying that the filmmakers "discovered these movies were popular in places, such as the Philippines and South Korea, and so they dropped the humour because no one there is going to understand jokes about the English class system.

    The English class system? Q?

Its obvious that Cleese is off on his hobbyhorse again. Your humour hasn't changed from the sixties..

That was a silly, stupid thing to say, even if it is true. That sort of ethnocentric puffiness makes it seem like he crawled out of the 19th century.

And I never found Monty Python all that funny.

Was Cleese not dumped from the Bond Series so is this maybe why he's bitter towards them?
