Fall/Winter 2014 Current Alternatives for TF Quantum Cardigan

I've been on the hunt lately trying to find a decent alternative, figured there would be few other gentlemen as well. All alternative ideas welcome, personally though, I'm looking for something under the $500 mark.

Any help is greatly appreciated! -{

    I was looking at this one earlier today:

    https://www.everlane.com/collections/mens-all/products/mens-chunky-knit-cardigan-black

    fairly different but still nice and 100% Merino Wool

    Uniqlo has a similar-looking item, but it comes in navy blue, not black. It actually reminds me of Craig's cardigan from Dragon Tattoo: http://www.uniqlo.com/us/product/men-heavy-gauge-shawl-collar-cardigan-126262.html#69

    That Everlane sweater is one I have not seen before. It's nice, I'm not sure about the fit, but I may email their customer service to see if they'd be will to pull measurements.

    The Uniqlo isn't bad, but the problem is the same as many sweaters I've found, it's navy. There is an abundance of navy shawl cardigans out there right now, but not many nice ones in black.

    Found when browsing the JS site. Was tempted but as have the TF it seemed a bit daft. Looks pretty good though, and will top quality as all JS stuff is excellent.....

    Would anyone be able to speak on the fit of the Smedley? I have the bobby and love it, but to me the Dover cardigan looks a bit long in the body compared to the TF. Maybe I'm wrong because I can only compare it to what I saw on screen and have never seen one in person.

    Does anyone think the Everlane cardigan is on the long side? I still really like the sweater and am thinking of going for it, but am wondering if it is too long, would you be able to have it altered? I've never tried to have alterations done on knitwear before.

    I just saw the Club Monaco earlier this morning in an email Mr. Porter sent out. It went straight to the top of my list next to the John Smedley Sherwood. I couldn't get myself to like the pockets on the Smedley Dover.

    I picked up the Club Monaco Ribbed cardigan from Mr. Porter. It should arrive around Friday. I'll make sure to post on details.

    I may still also order the John Smedley Sherwood in black. It lacks the ribbing in the knit, which may justify it different enough in my mind to have two black merino shawl cardigans. I know it's close to Christmas when my ability to justify gifts for myself knows no bounds. -{

    I've been searching high and low for one of these for the past few months, I've checked the majority of the UK menswear retailers at least, nearly bought this http://www.farfetch.com/uk/shopping/men/item10770599.aspx Ralph Lauren number in a shop because it had a real luxury feel to it (it's only 30% cashmere but well constructed), but the knit was too big and it has a funny grey bit on the button side when it's undone. Dodged a £500 bullet, under closer inspection picture to picture the buttons are obviously wrong and there's no horizontal stripe on the lapel/collar. So I've written it off, the Club Monaco seems much closer for the money at least.

    I guess it's like the TF Harrington, you feel like you should be able to find something fairly similar easily but it's those little details that make a simple piece something special.

    Yeah that Ralph Lauren number looks very chunky in the knit and heavy. Nice looking though, I'm sure it would be a nice jacket replacement late fall.

    I also ordered the John Smedley Sherwood in Black. I'm not sure yet if I'll keep both the Club Monaco and the Smedley, I'll have to see how much I dig them. john Smedley is currently running a 20% off promo with code: WIJS20. I think it may end on the 26th.

    I'm extremely happy with the fit and details on the Club Monaco Shawl Cardigan from Mr. porter from the link earlier in the thread. The elbow patches are very subtle and I have very pointy elbows, so I think in the long run it will help my sweater keep shape. I'm undecided on whether or not to change out the buttons. I'll try to get some pictures up if I wear it this weekend.

    I received the John Smedley Sherwood cardigan in black. It was a good cardigan, it did however lack the ribbing and I was less happy about the fit of it than the fit of the Club Monaco. I think would rather order a back up Monaco for a fraction the cost of the Smedley.

    These Monaco cardi's seem to be hot to trot, as I was pondering getting one they ran out of xs and xl and only 1 each of medium and large left until/if they get more.

    I took a punt in the black friday sales and ordered one of these http://uk.lee.com/product/shawl-cardigan/L83JOJ01 for ~£70, hasn't even been dispatched yet though... It's cotton so I'll probably get a bit more wear out of it and I can still find a nicer merino one to keep ship shape for when I'm recruiting old friends etc.

    I'm a 43 chest, 32 waist, 180 pounds and I went with the large. I was going to pick up another one, but Mr Porter is currently out of stock. They have great customer service, I'll probably call them later today and ask if they're expecting a restock.

    McQueen- The large is a fitted cut considering its a chunky knit, but not too fitted. I have to repeat that this is a great alternative to the TF at less than a tenth the price. I am so happy with it that I ended up buying a back up. I almost bought the dark blue one to mix it up, bought I just reminded myself that there are so many decent blue options each season, but this is the first black I've been happy with.

    If anyone has a link to somewhere that sells the correct style buttons, I'd be happy to hear about it. -{

    I forgot to mention earlier that if you sign up with Club Monaco you get 15% your first order. That brings the cardigan down to a hair over $100. -{

    I looked at the Everlane cardy and even enquired if they shipped to UK. Had a nice reply saying they didn't but suggested I looked at Hop Shop Go as a way of getting one. They are an intermediary (based in Portland Oregon) who give you a US address to have stuff shipped to. Then they send it to you (for a small fee). They are useful if you want stuff from a US supplier who doesn't take UK based credit cards or won't ship to UK. If you can use paypal even better as it gives protection.
    So having seen the discount on the Club Monaco one mentioned above, compared to the £160 price tag here, I've ordered one and having it sent to my 'US address' before it comes to me.
    Even with the shipping and customs & VAT charges should work out cheaper than UK based purchase.

    I use BONVU.COM. Similar thing, they have stored stuff of mine for months (free) then consolidated when I decide to finally send it etc take pictures if required. Brilliant
