Where is the best place to buy a second hand Omega? I'm a bit leery of eBay because I'm worried it might be a fake.
    Thanks in advance.

Ebay is ok if you are thorough. Watchfinder removes that worry. But I think (if you are UK based) there is a used Omega specialist shop based in Hull. Heard great things abput their stock. They will also find you specific models !!!

Thanks! I never heard of Watchfinder, but I will check them out. And I'm in the USA so Hull is out of the question.

I wonder if this is a sign that the new Bond watch will be the Seamaster 300.

Saw the new 300 black SS version yesterday in a US.

The time has come for me to make a new watch purchase. Although they're personal items I was wondering what everyone's opinion was on which one i should get. First choice is the seamaster diver 300m. It's the new model so it doesn't have the wave feature on the dial. Second choice is the aqua terra. Both have been influenced by bond films however like I said, the diver is the new model so hasn't featured in any films although looking almost exactly the same. The watch will be worn almost every day so my immediate choice would be the diver, the aqua terra does force me to think. Thoughts guys?

I'm also looking to get my first Omega - no Bond influence obviously 8-)

I went into the Omega boutique in Manchester and tried on two PO's and the new SMP ceramics. Originally I was thinking of a pre-owned PO, but after trying them, even the 42 mm is just too heavy and bulky for my wrist. So it's going to be a SMP; not keen on the AT. Though the new plain dial ceramic SMPs are beautiful - the black is better looking than the blue imho - I'm going to go for a blue wave dial version, specifically the 2220.80.00. I've got Watch Finder on the case as I type! Might even get a black wave dial quartz model as an everyday watch at some point!.

James Bond also inspired me to get an Omega, but I don't dive, so the Seamaster didn't seem like the best choice for me. I went for a Speedmaster Day Date (in blue to be like Bond's Omega) and it has been a fantastic watch for the past 13 years. I like the way they made them back then with a simpler dial and steel bezel instead of the blue bezel they make now. I used the chronograph function all the time, whether I'm timing how long I'm cooking something or when I need to fetch my laundry. It's not what the watch was designed for, but it works for me. I don't think I could go with a non-chronograph for a day-to-day watch.

Random question, when bonds swimming in Shanghai is he wearing the aqua terra then? When he's declared fit for active service the aqua terra is then his watch of choice. I assume it's the AT but can't work it out.

He wears the Aqua Terra constantly from returning to London onwards. The lack of PO was supposed to be due to the sale of it funding his 'enjoying death' loafing. No doubt he went out and bought his new AT during his rehabilitation in London.

I thought it would've been the AT. Recently went swimming in my AT. Looks even better under water.

For those interested I recently tried on the Skyfall AT and the newer version AT. The polished links on the new one are OK but to me did not make up for the changes made to the dial. To me the new version dial looked cheaper so Skyfall AT it was - do your research you can get a bargain if you try.

this is not a trick question ASP9mm, but in your valued opinion, where would think Bond would purchase this watch in London ? (cant see him wandering around Westfield Shepherds bush) :D

There's an Omega shop on the Kings Road just 40 metres walk from Bond's pad in Wellington Square.

    EDIT: Beat me to it.

I bought the Omega Seamaster 2541.80 in 2006 just after Casino Royale came out and I must say I loved that watch. However, I do have a piece of advice for anyone in the market based on my experience. I wished I had bought the automatic movement instead. While it costs more I think it's worth it.

Purely by chance i realised Today I had something close to DC Spectre look (white shirt, black tie, blue crew neck, cavalry twills and black boots. For once it did not cost me a penny! Lighting is crap but here you go. Bonus for me I had the expensive part the watch (on a black leather) already good taste DC vintage SM300 a true classic

Long shot and off topic but can anyone help me identify any of these watches? I believe one may be a tag heuer aquaracer. But no idea on the others. Maybe a trained eye or an expert can help?

That's a looker! Been looking for a vintage SM300 for ages, it's a damn mine field! I've watched as the most obvious of obvious fakes sell for silly money on the bay :# . I'm tempted with a NOS but that's getting into serious money.

Just had to add this gem. "Certifed" Seamaster 300 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Gents-Omega-Seamaster-300-Watch-/311124969236?pt=UK_Jewelery_Watches_Watches_MensWatches_GL&hash=item48707e4714 Guaranteed to keep running until the fly dies.

Thanks yes it is a beautiful watch I wanted one ever since I got my QOS PO 5 yrs ago given that watch took some of its design hues from the SM300.

You have to be patient I bought mine cheap because it had a broken main spring. I had the replaced and a full service and it was still cheaper than some on eBay. Now looks great on leather, mesh and NATO a truly versatile watch if you ask me.

Good luck on your search patience will pay off but the do seem to be creeping up in price. Another option could be buy a 565 calibre and parts from Watchco and have one built others I know have done same if you are not that fussed about owning an actual vintage version.

I went the NOS route, and I'm very happy with mine. Im not a buyer and seller of watches, I hang onto them so a top condition 60s 300m works for me.

Watchco out of Australia seem to have the best rep in this field. Perhaps DC got his out there?
