GF vs TB

Both great films. Connery at his peak in both films. But IMO TB edges it out :))

TB is maybe my all time fave along with the modern CR!!!! Difficult decision!

There is something magical about Nassau in those days, unspoilt fantasy paradise etc it is the ultimate Bond location for me - stunning!!!!!

Factor in S.P.E.C.T.R.E. with a great plot etc And then of course Largo and the ultimate gorgeous female assassin!

Also I have to admit Domino is my fave Bond girl ever (though i think a lot of that is also her voice which of course was dubbed lol)

Fantasy Bond at its best in my opinion and Connerys performance is at its peak (superb one liners) - love it!!!!!!

Partly, but there was a general snowballing effect that happened to peak at that time. It helped that TB was released hot on the heels of GF (without a 3 or 4 year gap, pointing no fingers 8-) )

    GF.

TB, though probably the peak of the 60s in terms of Bondmania, box office, and a fine movie, always felt a bit rushed to me, as if they didn't have enough time to edit so that the movie flows, thus the long long underwater battles.

For me, TB feels like one of those giant big budget war movies of the 60s.

That's because it's the first Bond shot in Panavision. It's big, it's colorful, it's fun...But I feel something was lost from DN FRWL and GF.

Me too. I love the movie, but they were going for bigger in each film. It was where the intimate Bond story started being replaced by the 'event' film.

Yep, they got back some of that intimacy, which has to do with character development, in OHMSS.

Goldfinger has a near perfect pacing toward it with every scene counting for something. Thunderball was good but just not as essential in my eyes.

Oohhh damn. My 2 favourite Connery films...
Overall I'd say that Thunderball might just be my favourite of the 2 but it totally depends on what mood I'm in. GF is a film that I can sit down and watch anytime but TB admittedly requires a bit more patience
....and the best he ever managed was a sermon on the mount.

Thunderball wins out on this one for me. Goldfinger is a great movie, though I don't feel the same way a lot of other Bond fans do about it. GF tends to sit in the middle of my rankings, where as Thunderball is significantly higher.

Goldfinger gets my vote. Pretty much defined the cinematic Bond combining all the classic elements exceptionally well. A great villain, iconic gold painted Jill Masterson, the iconic Aston Martin DB5, iconic laser scene, etc. Thunderball also has a number of strong elements, particularly the Bond girls. Memorable moments, such as Bond's jetpack escape and his dance of death with Fiona Volpe. But I do find the pacing rather ponderous at times.
