Many things wrong with YOLT. Most annoying is the fact they totally disregarded an awesome Fleming novel and the arc it creates after OHMSS. First time they did this, they hired a SciFi writer and started the Bond + SciFi concept. How cool it would have been shooting OHMSS in 1967 with Connery, and then YOLT,the novel, in 1969 also with Connery?
I actually prefer You Only Live Twice. Yes, it is overblown and OTT at times but I find it more entertaining,
Exactly! And for that reason there's surely a certain logic for choosing YOLT.
"Contrary to what you may believe,
007, the world is not filled with
mad-men who can hollow out volcanoes,
stock them with big-breasted women,
and threaten the world with nuclear
annihilation." -M to Bond in the original TND script )

That's bollocks anyway; we all saw the documentary (YOLT).

You're joking, right?
Although taking into account that TND is the nadir of the series IMHO, it could well have been a line they actually considered!
I'd love a hollowed out volcano, stocked with some Big breasted women ! ... and it is nearly Christmas.
Well, now you know what to ask Santa for.
Just finished my impromptu 60's Bond marathon, and here are my results: DN & FRWL were the actual best movies, GF & OHMSS rocked the Fleming/EON casbah, TB felt a bit rushed, but epic H2O scenes and Connery at his peak does not diasappoint. YOLT was the most pure unadulterated fun.
Must have been the stock of big breasted women... 8-)
No way is TND the nadir of the Bond series; it's at worst a standard entry
On another site I said this:
TND was a supremely well made formula-chaser with a little twist here & there... hugely entertaining... To quote Malcolm McDowall from Blue Thunder, "anyone who tells you different is a damn liar." )

Well I am a damned liar then.
There are three lessons in blandness
Bland, bloody bland and Tnd
1. For Your Eyes Only 2. The Living Daylights 3 From Russia with Love 4. Casino Royale 5. OHMSS 6. Skyfall
TND has a more confident performance from its star than its predecessor, IMHO David Arnold's best Bond score, uses a classic Bond plot, and plenty colourful supporting performances (Dr Kaufman, for example).

And a truly awful villain. Did brosnan have any rapport with wai lin
Mind you, Dr kauffman maybe the best scene in the brosnan era

That quote was for entertainment purposes only my friend!
You don't fancy TND, so be it. I don't fancy MR much. We all have our little niggles. For me, YOLT, TSWLM & TND are the three big fun Bonds. The Holy OTT Trinity, as it were. )

(a) No way is TND the nadir of the Bond series; it's at worst a standard entry
(b) Yes that line was actually considered (Edit- as Chris says above)
a) It's just my two cents. Till the day I die, I will consider TND the worst Bond movie ever. I felt cheated when I first saw it in 1997. Then I tried to see it several times, and always think the same. The absolute nadir. For me, that is.
b) That only goes to show how lost they were. The actual shooting script is not much better anyways.

D Arnold's great music. So fantastic after the lack luster score for
GoldenEye.

I will try and watch it that way. The score is top notch, I must admit. Arnold showing his love for Barry and re-inventing the Bond sound.
Yeah, it's personal between me and TND, I know. That's why I always say IMO. I know there are many fans out there.
