According to Wikipedia: "Goulding has listed Björk, Joni Mitchell and Lauryn Hill as influences, as well as contemporaries such as Adele, Amy Winehouse, Florence and the Machine, Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Christina Aguilera, and Rihanna, stating that she is "blown away" by them."
I find this promising.
Unfortunately this list of influences don't sound anything like her...
I like Ellie Goulding, she has recorded some solid tracks... but a Bond theme?... Nope, sorry. For me, she just doesn't have the power or depth in her voice.
She should stick to the likes of Fifty Shades... which was her last movie title track.
She's worth whatever chaos she brings to the table and you know it. ~ Mark Anthony

People said the same thing about Adele, i recall
Mmm, really? I think that might have been the minority who did... I was super confident that she had the power to deliver, and she did, with aplomb. People might not like the result... but no one can say her voice doesn't have the power (regardless of her diction )
Ellie on the other hand, sounds like a 12 year old.

I agree. But I don't recall many people having doubts about Adele.
Interesting thread this. Alice Cooper's The Man with the Golden Gun....words fail this Donkey! Thank god for Lulu -{
This was last dug up around the time we were discussing who should have sung Skyfall. Dame Shirley's, David Arnold's & Don Black's rendition of Quantum of Solace (christ I wish it had been). With overtone's of Vesper's theme from Casino Royale, track 7 of Dame Shirley's The Performance album was sheer bloody brilliance & IMO as big an oversight as not going for KD Lang's powerhouse performance of "Surrender" for the Tomorrow Never Dies titles.

David Arnold's song wasn't actually finished by the time of Quantum of Solace, though it would have made an excellent title song since it incorporates part of the score and features the word "solace". See more here: https://www.mi6-hq.com/news/index.php?itemid=8079
I'm not sure if Alice Cooper's song was ever a contender. If he presented it before John Barry was hired, then it's possible that it was considered. But as long as John Barry was to score the film, he would have control over the title song. From GF to TLD, the title song was always written by the composer of the film's score.
Ellie Goulding's voice is very annoying! Adele was a good fit because she has a belting voice so they could do a big song.
I wonder what direction they'll take it in? We haven't had a 'romantic' Bond song for a while. Tomorrow Never Dies and The World is Not Enough have touches of 'love song' about them but don't really feel like love songs. They might try for something like Nobody Does It Better.
I've listened a bit to Ellie Goulding on Youtube (I'm "in" and understand kids nowadays ), and I'm not sold on her voice. It's breathy and seems to lack fullness and character. But who knows, maybe the music will be decided by someone who not only understands music better than me, but also listens to Youtube more than I do ...

He voice really annoys me. To me she doesnt really sing but instead talks really soflty and over pronounces her words.
I really hope the song itself is called SPECRTE. I've written many songs myself and I can honestly say that, writing one called 'Spectre' would not be difficult at all. It could be used in many ways and still work.
Hmm regarding Goulding I'm not a huge fan of her either. But I feel with the right track and lyrics she could make it work honestly. Hard to follow up Adele though.

It's not like you'd necessarily have to find a rhyme for it, or you could even stretch it like Skyfall/crumble!
I really hope that one day Michael Buble records a Bond theme. He could make it to bring back to the good old days of Matt Monro and Tom Jones just like how Adele did Skyfall as a throwback to Shirley Bassey's "Goldfinger"

Actually, Tom Jones still sounds like Tom Jones and could pull off another Bond theme with ease. I did like what Adele did with "Skyfall" a definate nod to the classic Bond themes and singers of the past.
Adele was perfect. Would you really rather have Jack White or Sheryl Crow?
Some people... 8-) )
30 years from now, we will look back and see "Skyfall" as a classic song on the same level as "Goldfinger" today.
I had the opportunity to meet Ellie Goulding about 4 years ago at a radio station meet and greet. At that time she wasn't famous as today. Very down to earth and has a very nasal voice when she talks.
Like wise, she was doing electronic music and covers of Elton John. Never expected her to sing a song for a Bond film. I was really amazed at her recent hit "Love Me Like You Do" for 50 Shades of Grey. Who knows? Her song for Spectre will be a hit or a miss.

Bloody hell....Impressive, most impressive -{
Nice voice. . .and like Sheena Easton, she could be in the titles themselves!

1 - Moore, 2 - Dalton, 3 - Craig, 4 - Connery, 5 - Brosnan, 6 - Lazenby

I mean, doesn't this sound like a Bond theme??

A lot of singers could sound right for a Bond theme with an arrangement like this song has.

I said this back when they were looking for themes for QoS. (Gave the same song reference too )
He indeed would make a great singer for Bond. :007)
