Look on the bright side it's keeping Justin Bieber from the #1 spot.
We could have had this guy.

When I have time to sit and ponder over it, I believe had they done just an instrumental theme for this film as was done with OHMSS and it was just as fitting, I don't think audiences would have been too disappointed. Adele did such a superb job on SF and it did so well, switching to an instrumental theme would have been a nice touch and many would naturally have considered it a nice nod to OHMSS.
They have done it in the past, they could do it again, and as you say it would be a nice nod to OHMSS. It could be the OHMSS theme itself, a nice orchestral or electronic arrangement would be great. It's one of the greatest themes in the series and it has only been used once. It's much better than "007", which was used many times, and if you ask me, I like it better than the James Bond theme itself.

Actually Sam S is my bother, just the S is not for Smith.
The angst about the song is mostly misplaced. I'm sure that when shown in context, it will be fine. Of course, it will be paired with a maudlin titles animation that doesn't really add much to the film (as opposed to, say, the brilliant retro and colorful one in Casino Royale did). Mendes is mostly a "mood" director, and not a particularly bright one, and the mood he likes in his movies is cold and depressing, like a drab, overcast winter's day. He thinks this grounds his movie in something "important," and for some audiences, it does do that. For this, the slightly better than middling Smith song (and the slightly better Adele song) is fine.
1. Boring song. Not terrible just very bland and unmemorable. I was well excited when those rumours started that Radiohead had got the gig so this was a big let down.
2. Not sure if I like it less than Another Way to Die. Both pretty dull tbh. It's amazing really that with all the talent and artistes clamouring to be involved this is the best they can come up with.
3. A boring theme song does not a bad Bond movie make thankfully. Exhibit A in this respect is Octopussy. Piss poor (lets be honest :v ) theme song..great Bond movie. I still expect great things of Spectre.
Strange how we all fall into certain camps ...

Perhaps if WOTW gets the #1 position, we could have a day of only
Positive posts for him and his theme, as it will be a milestone for a
Bond theme ?
"I've been informed that there ARE a couple of QAnon supporters who are fairly regular posters in AJB."
Put me in the camp of hating it. Silly lyrics, some of which I could not even understand and over the top vocals culminating in some high pitched screeching. The most disappointing part was I thought the song was over at about the 3:30 mark, only to learn there was another minute to go. I would put it in the bottom five of all time.
For comparison, I would put Adele's song in the top five.
For those of you wishing there was an instrumental version, apparently the CD single will include one à la Skyfall. Will confirm once I receive mine (release date was Oct 23rd but no e-mail yet - would have been faster to go through amazon instead of the official SS store...).

On WOTW, Sam is hot property. He's won big
At the Grammy's and is one of the few British acts to have broken into
America. From the looks of things he's delivered a #1 hit song to the producers.
It may not be to everyone's musical taste, but the boys done good, I can't see
how he could have delivered more
I for one will be basking in the glory of Bond being #1, in the popular hit parade
Of the " Pop and Roll" that the young people listen to.

I like the disco version of the Madonna song. but then I'm still
young at heart and am " Down with the kids" )
Like everthing Bond it's all personal taste, and it's only a few minutes
at the start of the film. So hopefully it will pass quickly for those who
don't like it.

I never had a problem with the Madonna track... a cool piece of techno, imho, and sort of suited, in a lightweight way, to the buzzing torture themes in the credits sequence of DAD. I've even come to tolerate 'Another Way to Die' as an outré piece. 'All Time High' was tuneful, though the least captivating of Barry's Bond title tracks.
But this latest effort is just lame... awful!
The Bond song has always been a key focus of audiences' expectations so yes, I'm afraid screwing it up IS a big deal!
Critics and material I don't need. I haven't changed my act in 53 years.

Joking aside (never), I blame the Hex Factor for our current dissatisfaction. Mr Codpiece I believe manages Leona Lewis, a powerhouse of a singer who was responsible for delivering the love theme from Avatar which was an incredible piece of music. One can only imagine what Bassey like quality she would have brought to a Bond theme...this Donkey thinks it would have been magic!
If & this is only speculative, Mr Codpiece is also behind Mr Smith perhaps it was thought a similar powerhouse performance would be delivered by said Hex Factor winner?
Personally I still feel Holden's rewrite of "I've been here before, Yawn-yawn-yawn, Snore-Snore-Snore" takes some beating -{

In my post I totally forgot to mention FRWL. I must be getting old.
The instrumental theme worked perfectly with the opening credits and Barry incorporating the Bond theme into the last part of the song was brilliant. Another reason I feel they would have been fine doing an instrumental for SP.
These days I think theme songs and songs used in the films are such an
Important part of " selling" the film, that an instrumental was never on the
Cards.

It's a shame, because when done right they can be very powerful.
