When you spend big money Titanic, Avatar, Prince of Thieves etc
You want a big song attached to help put bums on seats. and
You get the benefit of the video being shown, and I'm sure Sam Smith
Will be doing the rounds of the talk shows , it's all promotion for the film.
"I've been informed that there ARE a couple of QAnon supporters who are fairly regular posters in AJB."
I hate to make my return on this sour note, but I am rather disappointed by the song. I don't hate it and I don't have a problem with Smith's voice, but the song strikes me as somewhat dull. The lyrics aren't memorable and the melody is pretty unremarkable. Still, it's early and the song might grow on me, so I'll give it a chance. After all, I wasn't crazy about "You Know My Name" at first, but now I feel it's one of the best of the Bond themes. Also, I don't worry at all that the title song will ruin the movie for me. I don't believe there's any significant correlation between the quality of the title song and the quality of the film. Actually, most of the Bond songs are pretty terrific if you ask me. But let me provide a couple of examples. Most of you know how I feel about AVTAK (didn't take long for me to bring that up, did it? )) But I like the title song quite a bit. On the other hand, "All Time High" is at the bottom of my list of Bond themes, but OP is one of the best of the Moore Bond (second only to FYOE in my opinion). So I have high hopes that although the title song isn't a home run (nor is it a strikeout), Spectre will be a big success.

I've missed you Blackleiter, and your well-thought out posts.
I like the new title song, partly because i made myself like it (ive listened to it at least a hundred times to be honest).
And I agree that the title song doesn't represent how the film is going to be. -{

Good to see you, BL! {[] For me, the tune is definitely a grower, if not necessarily in my top 50% of theme songs. As I said somewhere earlier, they can't all be Dame Shirley belting out 'Diamonds'...

Again, I'll remind myself that I wasn't sold on Chris Cornell (and have never been a big fan) until I was in the theatre and saw what Kleinman did with the visuals and heard what the final movie soundtrack version ended up being (different from the "single"). Personally, despite my reservations, I think it was SPOT ON PERFECT for Casino Royale.
But, Sam really should work on his diction (see Streisand if necessary).
I just re-read the shooting script so I'm particularly pumped. I think I can really visualize what Mendes has in mind with the most recent on set photos released and I'm really hyped to see the final product. I can't imagine that if you liked Skyfall you won't go bananas for SPECTRE!
The odd thing is that as much as I don't like it overall there are certain points of the song that stay in my head and I kinda like them - particulary the part "If I risk it all (...)" until the falsetto comes in, and the point where he's singing about an incoming storm... Weird, I don't think I ever liked just a part of a song.
Exactly. The intro, the first verse and the "if I risk it all" bit are quite good, but just when you think the whole band comes in a lifts the song, all you get is a piano and Sam's falsetto. I mean, when I first heard it, just after the "if I risk it all..." I began singing "let the sky fall..."

Good to see you too, Loeffs! Wow - this is starting to feel like a reunion! {[]
"This is the first Bond song I can recall in ages that doesn’t include the title of the movie."
Someone has a short memory. And the song is still very much at the top of the UK charts.
...and there goes the writer's credibility. Unless the writer is 4 years old and Spectre was the first Bond they've ever seen in which case they write damn well for a 4 year old!

And the great thing is "I've been here before, Yawn-yawn-yawn, Snore-snore-snore" also works with this classic sci-fi piece
Agree that the quality of title song doesnt reflect the quality of the film !!

This should be the version.
She doesn't have good diction. But she shows that the song is better with a woman. It's really not a bad song.

Sorry TP but Donkey has to disagree with your greatness....it is most definitely a No:02 and not a polished one either!

Interesting the music video teaser has five flag draped coffins, similar to what we saw in Skyfall.
Having watched the clip, I wonder why they decided to use
a SF visual, of the flag draped coffins ?
From this I'm guessing the "I've been here before" line refers to Skyfall?
