    There's another saying too and he's full...just kidding!!!! David's a great guy!

    For my part, the Sam Smith song is driving me nuts - constantly in my head - so I suppose it's achieved one thing it may have set out to do...

    Congratulations to Sam, he's now in the Bond record books, and he'll
    Be worth a fortune in publicity for the film with his Hit Song ! :D

    Speak to Holden Sir Miles. He has a great "Yawn-yawn-yawn, Snore-snore-snore" lyric. Far superior to the official unpolished turd! -{

    "I've been here before,
    yawn, yawn, yawn, snore, snore, snore.

    She said she likes a big gun,
    but I've only got a PPK.

    If I packed a Smith and Wesson,
    would she come on punk and make my day?"

    Now you've ruined it Holden....I preferred my historical inaccuracies the girl with the cello "Never shoot to miss" line :D

    So the song that is universally hated reaches number 1?

    I don't hate the song at all, but the majority reaction has been abysmal - yet it reaches number 1? Crazy.

    In popular culture there is often little correlation between quality and popularity. Some may even make the argument there is NO correlation.

    Sam Smith does have a lot of fans. That doesn't necessarily mean that they are Bond fans.

    I know that. It's just, this song in particular has had a particularly horrible reaction.

    I read in the newspaper that "Writing on the wall" is the first Bond theme song to make it to number one on the British charts ?:)

    Thomas Newman was Oscar-nominated for best original score for Skyfall so we're prepared for egregiousness in this field.

    And poop also floats :D

    I have always turned the radio off when Sam Smith came on, just because he is singing a Bond tune won't make a difference to me, the same with Madonna, I don't like her music or her Bond song, but I still enjoy DAD as I'm sure to do SPECTRE -{

    (after googling "egregiousness")

    Being nominated for the Oscars and selling the most are not allways the same. I am surprised "Writing on the wall" sells so well, since bigger stars and better songs have been used in the past.

    In my opinion, SS has a huge x factor following here in the UK, look at christmas number 1 record has been dominated by them for years, so between them and the Bond fans that were chomping at the bit to hear it obviously pushed it to number 1.

    It will be interesting to see how well it charts everywhere else in the world, because most people had the same reaction as Donk :D

    Even after several attempts it doesn't grab me - no doubt Smiths' popularity has a lot to do with the #1 position.

    Hipster on AJB. :)) which is odd because as for radio, I'm happy with
    Radio 4 and the world service. :))
