To Blofeld, or not to Blofeld ?

Not quite a poll but what are the views of members on whether or not
Blofeld should return, or like any of the other Bond villains, he's been
And gone, time to move on ?
I'd be interested to read the different views. Keep Blofeld in the past
With Dr No, Goldfinger etc or would a contemporary Blofeld be welcomed by fans ?
I wouldn't expect him to be in Nehru suits and stroking a white cat. :D
I think they would make him a little more modern.

I wonder if Ernst Stavro Blofeld could be re-interpreted for the modern Bond films just like The Joker was re-interpreted for The Dark Knight Trilogy and probably will be re-interpreted again for the DC Cinematic Universe.

Yes, of course he could with the right actor and treated seriously. It's Stavro, by the way.

I'm torn between the two views :#
On one hand I never liked the idea of remakes. Then on the other
I'd love to see a modern contemporary interpretation of the Blofeld
Character. Perhaps more in keeping with the novels, over a three story
Arc ? Something like that. Ending with Bond killing him, never to be heard
Of again until they next reboot. :))

I say it's time to move on to new villains. Blofeld was a good Bond nemesis for his time, and I think Telly Savalas offered the best of this character's several screen incarnations. But I'm not in favor of retreads, so I say no to more Blofeld.

I would love to see Blofeld return. The problem is that he must exist in a strata different than the one we do, and the modern take is to create villains and such who drink Coca Cola, shop at The Gap, and drive production model cars just like the rest of us. In other words, they are remarkably ordinary. That makes it easier for a mass audience to understand, as well as to ensure product placement. The modern context would simply create an ordinary man who has lots of money and power. Blofeld must instead exist in almost a parallel universe, where his ego and wealth give him command over his life in ways we can only dream. I don't think the current writers have much of a clue about this idea, and I don't think the production team could develop anything remotely as imaginative as Blofeld's volcanic lair or even Piz Gloria. We'd instead get something that looks like a cross between an army base and a university laboratory . . . so, if the people making the films were up to snuff, I'd say go for it. If Christoph Waltz played the part, he would be incredible, but only if the writing and production were far more risk-taking than they would be. I'd fear they would make Blofeld far too bland.

Blofeld was at his best when behind a big steel blind just covering his face (a bit like darth vader) the menace was in the mystery of the character , and the forces he controlled - the cold voice and what he said and did to his failing henchmen put shivers up your spine .The mistake was to unmask Bofelt - to humanise him.

I would welcome a New Blofeld. But I agree With other posters who say he must be re-imagined, like they did with the Joker in TDK and Moriarty in Sherlock. He should also be introduced gradually, like he was in the Connery films. If Blofeldgets introduced and killed in the same movie it would be a waste.

Yes I agree when he was known purely as Number 1.

Yes, definitely involve Blofeld, whether he is the main threat in this film or not. I've heard lots of talk about this film being the first of a two parter, so even if he's just re-introduced in Bond 24 I'll be happy!

As before, I find it unlikely it will be the Blofeld we've all come to know and parody though...

I like th idea of incorporating the fundamental elements of the character into a new villain.. I almost think that scooping up elements of Casino Royale & QOS in terms of the mysterious Organization at play there being layered in with a Blofeld type head.. But as mentioned by others.. the concept has to be modernized to fly.. the acronym SPECTRE is silly now.. But the idea of this type of organization is ripe for a good story to span a few more films.

Great idea! I've never thought of it before, but Fry would be a fantastic Blofeld. Tom Hardy could be a younger, more physical Blofeld. Stellan Skarsgård, Frank Langela or Ulrich Matthes (who played Goebbels in Der Untergang) would be interesting Blofelds.
They could also do a lot worse than making Christoph Waltz the next Blofeld :007)

If Tamil Rahini does get adapted, they really should give him some Back story. As in ROH and NLF, we learn nothing about his Past or how he became SPECTRE leader.

The Ascot Race in AVTAK was obviously from LR, and the Blimp from ROH. But it's a Shame that not more of it is used.

I think it would be best to forget the idea of Blofeld and SPECTRE now and concentrate again on the Quantum organization that has had no proper closure as of yet. I remember a rumour all the way back in 2010 before SF that the next Bond would finally reveal the head of Quantum and that it would be a woman possibly played by Craig's other half Rachel Weisz.
I actually quite liked the sound of that idea in making the head of this global criminal organization female. However if they do decide to return to Quantum in Bond 24 Waltz couldn't be a better choice to play the possible head man.

Agreed… I like the idea of layering the idea of SPECTRE over the entity of Quantum… I don't know about Rachel Weisz though.. As I would rather that Waltz's character be the quasi Blofeld role at the helm of Quantum.. and be a recurring role… Although in Bond 24 it would be outstanding to see the demise of Mr.White finally.. and have the ending set up a continuation of Bond's pursuit of Waltz (Blofeld).. Just the idea of some murky organization always being in "the shadows" plotting chaos and Bond being on their tail is a fun concept and leaves fans of the original stories satisfied with the references to Fleming's work.. The final scenes of Skyfall were such a rush with it bringing in elements of the 007 we grew up with.. Considering Q is back, Moneypenny, and Fiennes being a brilliant casting choice for M…. There is sooo much room for having a nostalgic connection with the original Bond, yet applying an artistic license to modernize the elements as well… I am absolutely confident that the next Bond films will deliver for those who appreciate the history of the character but enjoy the new edgy, dark, and realistic Bond that Craig has supplied since taking over..

Ok...here we go. During the time between QOS and Skyfall....utlilizing the intelligence collected by 007 in QOS; MI6, the CIA, Mossad, KGB, etc were able to systematically destroy Quantum. However, the tricky Mr. White (seeing the writing on the wall at the opera in QOS) was able to vanish, never to be found.

However, Bond being Bond has continued to search for the vanished White. Bond gets a lead on White's wherabouts and tracks him down (I know, similar to DAF). When Bond gets to White, White informs Bond that he himself provided the clues and wanted Bond to find him. White then goes on to tell Bond, "I don't care if you kill me, I'm already dead" and then warns him of another organization that has risen out of the ashes of Quantum. An even more deadly and sinister organization, SPECTRE...led by the mysterious #1 aka Ernst Stavro Blofeld. White goes on to tell Bond that while Quantum wanted to control the world and reap the profits, SPECTRE wants to destroy it and is willing to commit any atrocity to do so and even he (White) has no stomach for that.

I know this is more dopey and cliched stuff but.... 8-) ...while I'm on a roll, lets make Blofeld the son of a Nazi war criminal who was either hanged at Nurenberg or better yet tracked down after the war in South America in a cooperative effort between MI6 and Mossad and later (pick whatever you like best) subsequently tried and hanged, commited suicide in jail awaiting trial, or shot on the spot. :s

I rather have Mr. White return and Quantum is more plausible than SPECTRE (which is a little too OTT nowadays and fits more into the Marvel movies alongside HYDRA).
