If Waltz does play Blofeld, I think it should be in name only.
He's such a terrific actor that I think we should let him make the character his own.
After all, we've had three different Blofeld's. As with the rest of Bond, people will prefer different ones.
Blofeld is much more of a rounded character in the books. In the film's, he's a mixed bag.
Also, I think if Blofeld is in Bond 24, he'd have to return again at some point. The likelihood of Waltz returning to do another, given how popular he is at the minute, may be unlikely.

Essentially Quantum is the new SPECTRE as it were, so there's no need to go rehash earlier films (again). We know lots about SPECTRE but almost nothing about Quantum, its aims, hierarchy etc. - only what little we can glean from QOS in the Tosca scene.
So far me, Quantum is a much more interesting, mysterious organisation with untapped potential for the screenwriters. And I think DC needs to move in a new direction rather than retreading familiar ground (How he won his licence to kill, his Aston, etc) yet again.

What if Quantum is just a division of the Special Executive for Terrorism Revenge and Extortion?
Nowadays with all the conspiracy theories I could see SPECTRE as a sort of Illuminati organization, masterminding it all, behind government collapse, economic chaos, chemtrails...you name it.
I'm not saying that the concept couldn't work if handled well, but I think there has been enough rehashing. I'd like to see the series continue to move forward with new challenges and new villains, and not return to the threats of an earlier era.

I wholeheartedly disagree. If we were talking about a second rate slasher movie franchise, you'd have a point. But we're talking about the longest running, one of the most successful, best loved franchises in movie history. If Waltz landed the key role of one of the most iconic villains ever in this franchise, and was offered the chance to return in a couple of movies, I can't see him turning it down saying "I'm to big at the moment for that".

You could be right about that. Take, for example, Samuel L. Jackson in the Marvel movies.
Maybe Blofeld will drive a white Jag ? )
All the best villains do .
That's closer to the modern way Blofeld could be interpreted.
I suspect the current filmmakers will believe that subtle in conception is better than overt. They are copying the Batman films in a lot of ways, so consider how the villains there have been portrayed. Blofeld will be treated with a degree of blandness that will suffice for reverence and seriousness: Give Waltz a buzz cut instead of making him bald, have him dress like he shops at some high-price version of H&M, or have him wear thick glasses instead of brandishing a Captain Ahab-like scar over one of his eyes.
Of course, they could have some fun. Let him use a wheelchair or something for part of the film (after a ski accident but alluding to FYEO) until we find out he's faking. Or he could feed some poor minion to a tiger, preferably white. It would be the sort of thing that would be both a joke and menacing at the same time. Have Bond and him meet in some tacky Polynesian-theme restaurant with a little volcano in the background. Have him complain about a cold and having to do something about the virus. That sort of thing, haha.
That idea came to me when i saw the press conference. Henchman becomes overall villain, pulling everyone's strings, is a nice twist which has not been used yet.

I definitely think that a new "Blofeld" could definitely arise in the Bond franchise. I mean the way the bad guys are structured and created nowadays is so much deeper than the bad guys of those days that just wanted "world domination."
Yes new content is always good, but you know what let's go back and re-explore SPECTRE and bring Bond back to its roots. Mendes is an incredible director and I'm sure the screenwriters will do an absolutely phenomenal job writing and creating a NEW excellent Bond film.
So excited for the bringing back of SPECTRE and BOND.

Exactly. Everyone assumes he'll be the henchman. The guessing game is Waltz, Scott, Bellucci...Nobody mentions Bautista, and yet he could be a seriously dangerous Blofeld.

Blofeld might be not even be in the film. only a reference to him and perhaps a shot of a man with a white cat at the end.

I'm glad someone else said this...
So, question... just because the film is called SPECTRE, does it mean Blofeld will definitely be in it? Or just a strong possibility...?
I've just finished Octopussy... So have got the Oberhauser background... but this doesn't connect him to Blofeld, like some have suggested.

I think it's a script idea to connect them, I too think if there is to be
A big reveal. It will only be at the end of the film, or at least a hint
Of things to come.
"I've been informed that there ARE a couple of QAnon supporters who are fairly regular posters in AJB."
I think Blofeld has to be in the movie, else there would be uproar.
I don't think he has to be a main part of the movie, but they have to at least reveal him/her at the end of the movie to tease the fans and set it up for Bond 25.

Well, I think that might be a tad strong... there was a discussion on here as whether or not to bring him back... fair enough the majority said yes, but I would argue that the majority of new Bond fans (those that have joined since DC has been Bond, or even as far back as Dalton) might not even know who Blofeld is.
I'm on the side of not going back to old villans, BUT - I do trust EON (and Craig and Babs) that this will have a new spin...
...it's just interesting that a lot of talk on here is assuming Blofeld will return... but in reality, it might not happen... :v

If Blofeld is a female this Time, it will be directly out of For Special Services by John Gardner where Blofelds Daughter has taken over as Head of Spectre.

Yes, that has been mentioned.... it would certainly fit better with me, rather than have Oberhauser turn into him.

If they want to use SPECTRE as an organization for more than one or two films they should NOT use Blofeld in Bond 24 (as the main villain). In my opinion it would be better to build it up slowly like they did in the '60's.

Yes it may not be Ernst it could be his daughter Nena from For Special Services.
aka Mrs. Nena Bismaquer.
Or there was years ago an idea of new younger terrorists kill off the old SPECTRE and start a new organisation.
but keeping traditional but modernised I think Ernst should be silhouetted and gives Bond the slip at the end of the film. Bond is always chasing him, but never quite catching him.

Monica Belluci as the female Blofeld would be interesting, and the original Script for The Spy Who loved Me had SPECTRE being overthrown by another Group.

I agree. Blofeld will be the cliffhanger ending of SPECTRE, not the villain.

What, SPECTRE without Blofeld? That would be as bad as listening to the Beatles without earmuffs.

No. SPECTRE, the organization, that is.
You seem very definite there...but of course you can have SPECTRE without Blofeld...unlikely, but possible...
