If you would like an affordable HIGH QUALITY midnight blue tuxedo- I have just stumbled across a bargain that I wanted to share with my fellow 007 aficionados.
I work in Central London and went to Jermyn Street (the home of 007 outfitters Turnbull & Asser). I went to the Charles Tyrwhitt store and came across a superb quality midnight blue tuxedo with the wide satin shawl collar (almost identical to the Tom Ford "Skyfall" tux).
To my amazement- the already great price of £600 had been reduced to an incredible £300!!!! I bought one and I am so pleased with it.
The supply is limited so if you're interested (I'm not exaggerating about the quality- it's superb), I added a link to the page of the Charles Tyrwhitt website!

They have a decent white tab collar shirt as well but it's only single cuff with buttons.
You are so right @JMac88

I'm delighted with it! :007) I agree that the lapels look grosgrain however, the description does state that the lapels are 'Ribbed satin' ?:)

It does have a slight sheen to it I suppose.
The tuxedo itself is fantastic but I did decide to return the waistcoat and go for the cummerbund look instead. It's just more Bond!
The trousers certainly are a slimmer fit. I'm a 34" waist but usually go for a 36" in trousers (better for my thighs) and have them fitted for a relaxed but 'fitted' look (if that makes sense) and as such, when I took the tuxedo to have it taken in (I'm a 44" chest and needed the jacket tapered in at the sides - delighted with results) the trousers only needed an inch of off of the legs as the tabs at the side of the trousers sufficed for a good comfortable fit. It's worth mentioning also that the trousers come with brace buttons for your Albert Thurston Moiré braces -{
Did your local store have good stock? If so I might make a trip to Edinburgh then, as I'd prefer to try it on for sizing.
Hi,
I'd phone ahead first, the Glasgow store in Buchanan St had said that the midnight blue tux was only available online.
That rules out Glasgow then. Even if they have a standard dinner jacket would be worth a trip for sizing as I've never worn any of their suits and I'm unsure of the cut. I generally have to get a larger size to fit my shoulders and get it taken in quite a bit to fit my mid section. If I tried to wear an off the peg suit that fit me in the shoulders it look like I was wearing a sack lol!
Though thanks for the heads up with Glasgow.
Your welcome.
I was in there today and they have the black slim cut version in in a 40, 42 & 44" chest (that was at 4pm today).
I got the 44" size and had the mid section taken in at a local tailors. The hassle is well worth it! I'm delighted with the midnight blue and can't wait to wear it in a few days time -{

As the model on the website for the dinner suit has a horrible set of shoes on for evening wear lol!
2 stores in London (Jermyn Street and Regents Street) have them in stock!!

That's very true about the trousers- I always wear 32" but bought 34"

Thought I would take a few quick photos just to give you guys an idea of the suit, excuse my lack of an evening shirt, it's currently in the wash. For £300 or less if you can find some codes like I managed its very nice (don't be fooled by the 'original price' of £600 this is a mere marketing ploy and it was never on at this price) with half canvas construction, working cuffs and a stunning, blood red lining (very dark red that seems to change between black and scarlet) I couldn't really capture very well.
I tried to get a good photo of the trouser fitting, it's very slim. I'm actually considering exchanging the suit for the black shawl jacket and black classic fit evening trousers to go with it (which CT tells me is the same fabric). With a 6 month return policy I have time to decide at least.
I'm about 6' 4'' and 95kg with a 40'' chest and this is a 38L with 36L trousers, I could have probably gone up a size in the jacket.
Granted - the "£600 original price" is obviously a marketing ploy but it HAS to have been sold for £600 at some point in at least 1 of their stores for at least 28 days or it's illegal to promote it as a reduction (can you tell I worked in retail management for 10 years? LoooL!)
I work in the City now so I buy/own a fair amount of suits and I would have still bought this tuxedo even if it was £600 !!

It looks good on you by the way

Actually, you are absolutely right, I now recall going onto the Charles Tyrwhitt website to buy something and seeing it an absurdly high price (the original price) and thinking at the time that they must do that for a short period just so they can still say its a sale.
The 44" size I bought fitted well as I'm a 43-44" chest anyway. I did wonder about the sizing too as the midnight blue tux is 'slim fit' however, I'd go with your actual chest size as I believe the British sizing may be more accurate.
I hope this helps.
It definitely does. Thank you! -{
Well- I normally buy 42" but I initially went for a 40" as I prefer a closer fit but in the end, I felt it was a little bit too much of a close fit and exchanged it for a 42" short (I'm 5'10") and I'm happy I exchanged it!

If you look on the Charles Tyrwhitt website- it has all the measurements including sleeves and length of the jacket itself. The problem you may have if you buy a particular size in short- is that you will probably find the sleeves too short but if you buy a regular, the length of the jacket itself may be too long for you. Dilemma!

I was able to use a discount code off of retailmenot that gave 12% off which was nice.
Thanks for all the help guys -{
