:)) it's amazing how many actors made return trips in Columbo.
Just last week Columbo was getting his TV fixed by a guy who
Became his assistant in future episodes. :D then one assistant
Went the other way becoming a murderer in the episode about the
Death of a rock star. ( Dabney Coleman)

Watched A Stitch In Crime yesterday. Leonard Nimoy was brilliant as Dr Barry Mayfield, one of my favourite Columbo villains. Loved the bit where Mayfield laughs in Columbo's face after Columbo accuses him of killing one of the nurses he worked with ( which he did). In a rare display of anger, Columbo picks up a jug of water and slams it on Mayfield's desk and making him jump.
Have you ever heard of the Emancipation Proclamation?"

    " I don't listen to hip hop!"

I agree, Nimoy was brilliant there!

Doesn't he drive that gorgeous Mercedes S there as well?

Whenever I am watching a Columbo episode, I have to think, that those really where a showcase for actors/actresses who could escape from their typecasting - and many did!

I also remember David Pleasence being a phantastic villain in "Any Port of a Storm" {[]
President of the 'Misty Eyes Club'.

Dalton - the weak and weepy Bond!

My favourite villain was Jack Cassidy who turned up in 4 episodes I think (?). Jack in real life was father of David Cassidy and well known for dalliances with men as well - Murder By The Book is my favourite, directed by a young Steven Spielberg. He also turned up in Clint Eastwood's The Eiger Sanction as a gay assassin - now come to think of it he should have been Wint or Kidd in DAF :D
Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.

Watching an old QI on netflix Stephen Fry ( and Frank Skinner) said Columbo was
the greatest tv series ever made and they could rewatch them all the time. :)

Watching Columbo today " Make me a perfect murder" I thought it was a funny
sign of the times, at one point the killer had to wait for a security guard to pass.
The guard paused at the office reception area to have a look at a playboy magazine
    sitting on the table :))
I can't see many companies these days keeping playboy magazines in their reception
areas. Unless it's the offices of Playboy, I guess. ;)

I've been a Columbo fan for decades as the shows were always great showcases for the guest villains and had some really great actors over the years.

However, Columbo's methods, while certainly entertaining, would probably never hold up in Court. I was watching an episode the other night with Mel Ferrer as the head of a think tank who murders a colleague to protect his son who had plagarized the victim's research. After an hour and a half of Columbo following one blind alley after another, he finally gets Ferrer to confess by arresting his son on trumped up charges. Once Ferrer confesses, Columbo even admits he made the whole thing up because he didn't know what else to do. A lot of episodes were resolved with that kind of false evidence. I don't think that kind of entrapment would fly before most judges.

The shows are enjoyable but its often best to focus on the performances instead of the minutaue of Columbo's come solving technique.
  • ThunderpussyThunderpussy Behind you !Posts: 63,792MI6 Agent
I can agree with that, I remember one in which Columbo couldn't get any evidence
on the killer, so got a local mafia don, to threaten to have him killed, if he didn't
    confess to the murder. :D
Although as stated, I think you watch Columbo for the great interaction between the
    actors.
