Look BL, let these chaps play a bit. Yes, it's a silly question, but we must be prepared to entertain all sorts of nonsense in the spirit of good sportsmanship. IMO FRWL is the best Bond film with the best Bond performance (Connery), to try to compare it unfavourably to ANY other Bond film, even my much beloved TLD, is fairly laughable. It's a singular masterpiece.
Okay, shhhhh, the others are coming. Make like we weren't talking.

Why not ? For me both are great films...I prefer QoS, but it's difficult to pick as the films are from very different times...

After reading through all the posts in this topic, I thought it strange than no one pointed to one of the most obvious facts as to why FRWL is the better film.

    Ian Fleming.

No matter how well today's screenwriters attempt to try to infuse their scripts post CR with Fleming's ghost, it will always be merely an imitation. You can make a movie about the downfall of a media mogul or about a man who loses his woman during a war then realizes he has to put the relationship in the past and join the fight, but they will never be as good as Citizen Kane or Casablanca.

Compared to the fast-paced QoS, watching FRWL is like watching paint dry.
    My current 10 favorite:

I wasn't mad about QOS when it first came out but the more I watch, the more I enjoy it and the more it gets under my skin.

One thing I will say is that Craig's performance is superb. He handles the simmering, inconsolable rage inside Bond as a result of his love for, and ultimate betrayal by, Vesper - and his search for Quantum as a result- incredibly well. By contrast, while FRWL has one of Connery's best performances, there's not the same undercurrent of emotion which makes QOS so enjoyable.

while FRWL has one of Connery's best performances, there's not the same undercurrent of emotion which makes QOS so enjoyable.
In a way, the films are quite similar in ther dissimilarity. Both are stripped down, no-nonsense, no-gadget-ridden basic chase movies, but where Connery's Bond is fairly removed from real emotion, Craig's is gripped by it.
It's difficult to directly compare Old School Classic (FRWL) to ADD Gen Emo (QOS), but they're both exceptional in their own ways and I personally enjoy them both immensely on a semi-regular basis. B-)

That's the difference between the old EON and the new. The producers took Fleming's character and stripped him of emotion in order to make him seem more invulnerable and also to keep the audience focused on just the plot and action. They added in more humor to make a more appealing film and get more box office. They were still building their brand and could not risk it by making Bond seem like a real individual. By rebooting the series they could remold the character closer to Fleming's real spy with all the faults and emotion.

I don't understand the logic behind this thread, as they are 2 very different Bond films.

But having said that, I easily prefer FRWL, even though I'm not a QoS hater.

Hmm, one of the most mediocre Bond films versus the greatest Bond film of all time???

...yeah, FRWL all the way. :)

FRWL is one of my favourite books and the film is just superb. I love the villains and how they steer him towards his final demise. Along with the poisoning scene in CR its the closest Bonds come to death when he is strangled by Grant.

    But..

Watching QoS the other night it really does alot right. Those colour's in the South American desert. That lizard in the desert is like when Fleming would open a chapter with such a description. The fire at the Perl de las Lunas are incredibly exciting

FRWL is a masterpiece. but QoS is not far behind...
