I'm not known for defending Brosnan, but he did carry a quite successful TV series for a few years. Also in "The Fourth Protocol" he was co-starring with Michael Caine no less, with similar screen time. He was the villain, and a very solid performance he gave. By the late 80s,early 90s, he was a well known actor all over the world, with years of experience. He was no Lazenby.
I think if you try hard, you can find that Pierce studied acting at Oval House http://www.ovalhouse.com/ and toured the UK in rep, including appearances at York and in Glasgow. "Stage Management" can often be part of the tasks undertaken by young members of a stage company.
So perhaps not the same guilded training as DC, if you like. Brosnan also appeared in a number of leading roles prior to Bond; apart from those mentioned I'd add MISTER JOHNSON and THE DECEIVERS. Some powerful hitters behind them, and PB is good in them. not quite Craig's A KID IN KING ARTHURS COURT or his supporting role in suppertime fair HEARTBEAT, if you feel that way, but it shows Pierce DID have a career you're denying him. Fine, ridicule MR DOUBFIRE: I advance you LARA CROFT and THE INVASION...
Fact is, all pre-Bonds (Laz accepted) have bee in crap, (even Dalton who I rate the best) but all have somehow pitched themselves to be in the right place at the right time to land Bond.
You know, one theory I have with the Pierce haters: is it REALLY just because you find him TOO good looking?
Too me PB will always be the "suave" Bond, much like RM is the "funny" Bond and DC the "gritty" Bond. He did that aspect of Bond better then anyone else.
Seems to me everyone has a point, maybe we could agree that
Brosnan has Trained as an actor, and although a leading man
He didn't have huge success. Also that I'd say most of us would
Rate DC as a better actor than PB, but both good in different ways ?

I seem to remember reading somewhere that Brozzer was both the lightest and the heaviest actor to play Bond? (GE on the light side and most likely DAD on the upper end)
I actually enjoyed him quite a lot, and think he had some very nice moments in the role. True, his scripts were not up to scratch, but IMO he had the presence necessary. Physically, he could be fairly convincing compared to Sir Roger---granted, Craig has moved the bar since then. No, in my opinion he was not the best, but neither was he the worst by a long shot.

I grew up with him as Bond and until 2006 he was my favorite Bond, no Bond pulled off suave and smooth as well as him and without him the series could very well be dead. On top of that he seems like such a genuinely great human being.

I posted the exact quote from the Imdb. Chrisisall didn't agree with it, but I think I convinced him!

By a pound or two, yeah, I'll concede it.
Hey, I just got home from work here & the dude I was arguing with is gone... and Barbel said the thread was unlocked, I'm guessin' I missed some kind of 'incident'? ?:)

Oh, the dude...I think he was on his way to a funeral...
Just to add: I'm on a Brosnan kick right now, just watched TWINE last week, just saw November Man the other night (great movie BTW), and I'm geeking maximum.
Forgive my exhuberance.

I saw November Man and liked it very much. He could be playing a retired Bond, right? I like Brosnan, he's a good actor, and I like TWINE, I think that's his best. Although I'm not a big fan of the rest of his movies as Bond, I respect you guys who like him a lot. -{
Thanks @Virgil37, that's most kind.
Let me just say that I started this thread as a funny- I don't think he actually was THE BEST Bond (That would be 60's Connery/Dalton IMHO), but I enjoy his Bond immensely and have never understood the dislike of his movies especially in the face of so many fans of Moore's very similar (yet obviously less physically able) take in TSWLM. ?:)
Didn't see the programme but occasionally you can spot Pierce's double in his films... But then you can also see DC's double /stuntman in many scenes throughout his tenure.
Pierce's Bond had as much physicality as the others, more so IMO that Moore or Dalton, though less than Connery, Lazenby or Craig. Some of the ' behind the scenes' documentaries show him rehearsing for fight scenes and I know he spent some days/weeks filming the final showdown with Trevelyan, at Leavesden studio. The only thing, if my old brain remembers it correctly, is that Pierce was never happy with how he looked running... But that hardly counts. -{

I'm sure once InternationalExports checks out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Fourth_Protocol_(film) and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lawnmower_Man_(film) he will realise that Brosnan did not just make "bargain bucket" films.
As an Actor but he did star as a lead actor in several films before Bond ?
Muscle weights more than fat. By DAF Connery had lost all his muscle mass, so I wouldn't be surprised if he weighed between 201-210 pounds.
I think it makes sense, Brosnan in DAD was a little overweight, but still more muscular than Connery in DAF. 211 seems right to me.

Dan, Tim and Sean would slot right in but Pierce...
