They could very well screw this up, but I don't think so. The cast is outstanding. The title is wonderful. The director more or less gets it. All they need to do now is bring the writing up to par. This may well be the Bond film I have been waiting so long for.

Really stoked about this. I made everyone in the office watch it too. )
It was a real surprise to see the title wasn't Risico or The Hildebrand Rarity but still has the Fleming roots, so a thumbs up from me. Though I was surprised not to see Michael G. Wilson there... Anyone know where/how he is?
The cast is fantastic- especially the wonderful Monica Belluci whose character's name sounded like Lucia Sciorra (?) or something similar, which would tie in to Rome. Potential Bond villain? I can see Waltz as Blofeld but not Monica.
Great to see DC looking fit and healthy and with longer hair too - I have a good feeling about SPECTRE. -{
Did I also hear it correctly - have the EON team worked with Aston Martin to Create the DB10? Amazing! ) :007)
Not sure if it's been mentioned yet but the bullet hole in the middle of the title looks a lot like the SPECTRE octopus logo. Maybe done intentionally.

Apologise in advance if this has been referred/speculated on before now. Andrew Scott is cast as Denbigh, a Whitehall based character. The rumours all had him marked down as a villain. Is Denbigh some kind of double agent like Craig Mitchell, "We have people everywhere"?
Forgive me for not knowing, but what does "Whitehall-based character" mean?

Whitehall is where all the Government offices, the MOD and Downing street are. One long street just up from Parliament Square. The shot of Bond on the roof at the end of SKYFALL has him looking down Whitehall.

I didn't have the time to watch the press conferance live and I have just spent some time getting up to speed on the news because I oversaw the serving of tacos to about 75 people all afternoon (not my usual job)
The title can't be accused of being subtle, but I can't help liking it. The title design is brilliant :007)
Did you notice that Lea Seydoux' character name is British? So Lea plays the British Bond girl and Bellucci has the role that was origionally Scandinavian? Yes, I'm still bitter. But if I look at the cast as what it is today and not what might have been I think it's great! I suspect Scott's character will be suspected of villany and might end up good or bad. Waltz' will apparently be the ally, but end up as Blofeld. If this world is a just world he will keep playing Blofeld for one or two more Bond Movies.

I like the title. It makes sense with the return of Blofeld. I also like the artwork with the bullet hole which takes on the octopus shape...although I admit I did not catch the octopus thing until another person mentioned it here. A nice subliminal touch.
GREAT BOND, check.
STRONG TITLE, check.
BEAUTIFUL BOND GIRLS (including a "mature" one and a blonde one, finally), check.
AWESOME CAR, check.
CLASSIC VILLAIN (if Waltz is indeed the baddie), check.
THROWBACK HENCHMAN, check.
COMPETENT 'M', check.
EVIL ORGANIZATION, check.
So far, this is looking good to me. I would love for Bond to find out that QUANTUM, this omnipotent force he's been battling, is but one of the tentacles of SPECTRE. That would be daunting, indeed.

Let's just hope they don't waste the Bond women again and get a little bit stronger on avoiding the plot holes caused by the wild Silva's multi-year trap plan.
I think the theory of Monica Belluci playing a female version of Blofeld is dead on and Waltz could just be a red herring. It will be interesting to see if Andrew Scott plays a baddie. Perhaps he is a SPECTRE agent masquerading as a politician. I wonder what kind of henchman Mr Hinx will be. Somthing tells me he is going to be mute like Oddjob and Jaws. Would be cool to see him use some special type of method of killing people. Wasn't sold on the title too much at first but now Im finding it cool, sinister and mysterious like the organization itself. Im also very happy if it is true that Mr White will make an appearence as I've always felt Quantum needs some closure. Ticking all the right boxes for a classic Bond. Can't wait!

Fleming got lazy and cut corners when he published Thunderball. McClory sought legal remedies, just as I speculate most of us would have done in his position. Amazing how many people slag him off for that. Not saying he was anything close to a creative genius, but what recourse did he have really? Bow down to the will of Fleming and walk away? Yeah, sure thing.
That was pretty much of what happened, more or less. McClory and Ivar Bryce (Fleming's BFF) were already partners and got along ok, but when Fleming joined them for their next project, Fleming and Bryce's closeness eventually had a negative effect on their productivity and there was a lot of creative clashes that stalled the project. Fleming took the material they came up with together (and many of the TB elements were beyond Fleming's depth) to write his novel. McClory was indeed a wheeler and dealer, but he set the ball rolling and accomplished what they sought to get done, which includes the creative development of the cinemtatic Bond and his world, e.g., scouting and hiring a writer suitable for the job who was Jack Wittingham, apart from consulations with experts needed to contextualize Bond for a modernized, international threat, hence the atomic plot. McClory had the neccessary business sense that neither Bryce or Fleming had, a results-oriented business sense not unlike that of Cubby's or Harry's that was yet to come.
At this point, apologies to extend an argument from another thread, but had the original TB project been produced at its original time frame, we don't really know how successful or not it may have been and the uphill battle of NSNA was that it was not produced in a vacuum, but under the condition that the successful EON series had already been underway for 2 decades at the time.

Had a crap day yesterday -- a LONG semester is coming to a close. But then I woke up to this, and I am elated, haha.
I have waiting almost literally for 30 years for them to get back to the roots. I've suffered through some of the least imaginative and most derivative Bond films, all of them missing in one way or another what had drawn me to the Bond series in the first place. Then they hired Craig, a bonafide actor who also has a lot of Connery's machismo and confidence. But I kept wanting the scripts to be better. They had a "retro" Bond, so why not a retro Bond plot? What was missing? SPECTRE.
They could very well screw this up, but I don't think so. The cast is outstanding. The title is wonderful. The director more or less gets it. All they need to do now is bring the writing up to par. This may well be the Bond film I have been waiting so long for.

I'm really excited for this time of the year in 2015! My son turns 21 on that day and I promised him a date at the movies with legally purchased beer at the closest pub to the theater!
I'm so stoked about the casting and I'm curious about the roles of Christoph Waltz, Andrew Scott and Monica Bellucci. Being that there's already so much knowledge out there about the SPECTRE mythos from the books and films, I got a feeling there will be some emotional twist being fabricated for Waltz's Oberhauser character, like how they did with Mathis, that instead of some lowly German ski-guide living in an alpine cabin, he'll still be an emotional surrogate father for Bond from when he grew up in Germany or Switzerland (depending on what the writers decide), but he'll be financially independent in such a way that he afforded Bond a taste of the good life despite being an orphan; I bet that Monica Bellucci will be his wife or significant other and together, there will be some wicked twist that Oberhauser is somehow Blofeld, who covered up for heinous crimes in a recent modern war (Is Bosnia to recent to pre-date Oberhauser taking in a younger Bond?) In any case, that scenario will give us a delicious looking Irma Bunt!
An alternative guess is that Andrew Scott is Blofeld, as I'm influenced how a relatively young actor like him was used to play Moriarty in Sherlock. To show how insidious and all-powerful SPECTRE is, they bring back Quantum, the insidious and all-powerful power that was built up in the reboot, only to have SPECTRE in some way squash it like a bug around mid-way of the movie. No matter what, I wish they don't hold back on introducting Blofeld in a later movie like how they did it at first and for those who have fears of campiness, I wouldn't worry about that considering the good job they did modernizing CR, yet retaining its essential qualities and important plot elements.
Lastly, I'm glad they cast Lea Seydoux whom I've taken a fancy to in a few movies I've seen her in and in the tradition of Sophie Marceau and Ava Green, a French actress who had no qualms for nude scenes in previous roles, lol.

Oh, I really hope they don't go down the Andrew Scott Moriarty route. My brother is an actor, who's acted alongside Andrew, Ben Wishaw, Ralph Fiennes, as well as knowing Rory Kinnear and (RIP) Judy Dench and Samantha Bond, but is, unfortunately, far more tactful and circumspect than I…
I remember somebody posted the filming schedule on here once. I believe they start filming on Monday. Does anybody have a link to that schedule again?
1: Casino Royale 2: Goldeneye 3: Skyfall 4: Octopussy 5: Goldfinger 6: Tomorrow Never Dies 7: The World Is Not Enough 8: The Living Daylights 9: From Russia With Love 10: The Spy Who Loved Me
And it's not really a spoiler but remember there was a John Gardner Bond novel with a female Blofeld. Not that I'm against Christoph Waltz. The guy plays an awesome bad guy and is one of the better actors out there. Even in smaller movies like Carnage the guy is really good. But I wouldn't be against a female Blofeld twist as I doubt many are aware of that. Even though I personally doubt it will happen. I don't think they will want to go there.
Hopefully not a female Blofeld! Casting Waltz and finding out that Bellucci is really Blofeld would be as disappointing as finding out that Leydoux is Bond.
In any case, I agree that one or more of that cast are not really what they seem.

That would be quite a thrill since Casino Royale was one of the best of the entire series.
