Regarding the fact of living on a government employees wage , I used to live next door to this man ,he was a sort of Q ,for the MOD ,held the equivalent rank of a LT COL ,Any how we had the same car I had a 1600 GT ,and he had the 1600 super
(Ford Cortina MK2) ,I did remark to him ,isn't it about time ,you got a new car Sid, to wich he replied in horror ,if he did ,the men in Bowler hats and beige rain coats ,would be all over him ,to see where he was getting the money from ,
I assumed that they would be looking into people who might be bent, and open to shall we say ,bribes
Re: Bond living on a government employee wage: we're talking about a fictional world here, maybe due to the high risk, heavy attrition rate and unique nature of the job OO's are paid well with some extra perks (it was hinted in Skyfall that the government was footing the bill for Bond's flat, etc.). Also, as a single man with no children or family to speak of, Bond has little personal expenses (also when he's on a case all his expenses are on the government).
Say Bond keeps his RN Commanders pay that would be on top level that would be £79,524 plus Special Forces additional payments, plus jump pay, plus diver pay (up to £44 a day) and in TND there were pilots wings on the uniform so flight pay at up to £38 a day as long as he keeps currancy so at military rates easily over £100 thousand per year.

Ahhh but he is a reservist so he would only get paid when he attends his RNR training and gets his £1500 tax free bounty as well....
Duh...can't believe I forgot about Bond's gambling prowess....while he certainly isn't playing for CS types of stakes in his private life I would guess that if he is a consistant winner he could make a tidy sum. Private games of poker with the right players (wealthy hobbiests) could put a lot of money on the table. I'm really starting to get the vibe that SPECTRE will bring us fully formed Bond
Turned into an interesting thread, more about Bonds' income and lifestyle now than his flat. Anyway, my view is that he would easily cope financially. I mean, he's a Cambridge graduate so by mid 40s will easily be earning a six figure salary. Without a wife or kids, and with an expense account to pay for his travel etc when at work he will probably save handsomly.

Cambridge? He was in Eton till he was kicked out, then he went to Fettes before joining the military full time. No Cambridge scholarship for Bond.
In the novel Moonraker Fleming has Bond making GBP 1500 a year "the salary of a Principal Officer in the Civil Service and he had a thousand a year free of tax of his own." He could spend freely on an op and lived comfortably on GBP 2000 a year. Moonraker was published in 1955.

I think the new canon is slightly different. In CR Vesper says he went to Oxford or wherever, clearly meaning that if not Oxbridge he certainly went to a good uni. From there a brief career with the military then to mi6. This means he will certainly be earning over £100,000 by now.
Although it is a movie, so Bond can afford whatever the Producers
Decide to give him.. Like all those American Cop films where the
Hard bitten low paid policeman lives in a huge warehouse apartment ! )
And drives an expensive classic car.
"I've been informed that there ARE a couple of QAnon supporters who are fairly regular posters in AJB."

This was only a guess on her part...but I understand what you mean -{

Love that bio. So, not Oxbridge but LSE. Wonder what he studied there? Maybe mathematics. I'm a KCL man myself! Lol. Anyway interesting that the bio mentions Hannes Oberhauser.
I still think that with a degree from LSE, that by mid 40s he will be on a decent salary so will easily be able to afford a Chelsea flat.
I think his salary has been guessed at in other posts, so I'm going back to the original theme of the post which is about his flat.
Judging from the images, I'm making three points. One, the series is rebooted with an updated Bond with Craig and despite the old DB5 does not really acknowledge the existence of the old series. Two, based on this and that this story takes place after SF, this is a new flat Craig had acquired. Since it looks very much like the Regency type Fleming described, it seems that EON is basing his new flat on the one in the novels. Three, at this point we are only assuming this is his flat. He may be staying with Tanner because he is still looking for a flat, or it may belong to one of the women he is having an affair with and Moneypenny has had to contact him there (which explains her walking outside on the street).
I'm hedging my bet and going with it being Bond's new digs. How he can afford it will probably not be a subject covered in the film. It will also be interesting to see whether or May will be in it or if the subject of a housekeeper will even be mentioned.

Can't see Bond saving, didn't he say in one book he intended to
die pennyless ?
