    I agree, Pleasance was a rather unique Blofeld -{

    Unique? Perhaps. But good? I don't think so.

    He still looks rather chilling, with the Scar and his Voice in YOLT.

    Yeah. I wouldn't put this Blofeld in my top 10 now that I think about it, but I still think he was a very good villain. Iconic, perfect for the film.

    YOLT is probably the best movie from the entire series

    I've definitely warmed up to YOLT. I think this was one of the first Pros and Cons thread I've made, and I can see how my opinions have matured. YOLT has the personality, memorable moments and scenes that age well. It may not be in my top 10 yet, but YOLT knocking on it's door.

    I did. I own all the Bond films in Blu-Ray and, as I noted in the Pros, it looks fantastic.

    I love the epic feel to the whole film - the volcano base still fills me with awe and wonder as if I were watching it for the first time.
    The score is simply magical.
    It's just fantastic entertainment.
    I also find it one of the most rewatchable films of the series. -{

    Well, yes James Bond can be enjoyed on many different levels but YOLT was the first major breach from fidelity to the work of Ian Fleming in the Eon Bond film series.

    It would have been nice too see the deadly Garden of course :)

    Roald Dahl disliked the original Story, which explains why his Screenplay was different.

    I'd hardly call it a lack of fidelity to Ian Fleming. A lack of fidelity would imply they made an attempt at adapting Fleming's story for the film. Roald Dahl took Blofeld and Japan from the novel, and he wrote a completely original story from those few elements. He also took Kissy from the novel, but only in how an original character in the film had the same name in the credits. Since the film is not at all a Fleming story, does that make it bad? It's not like they ruined a Fleming story (which is what I feel CR06 did). I don't think it is fair to judge the films based on how closely they follow Fleming's stories, since that's not the point of the films. If you think Fleming's stories are better than the other writers' stories, I think that's fair. But I don't think it's fair to judge a film for what it is not rather than what it is.

    If TB had had a slightly faster pace & no problems with the speeded up film in the climax YOLT would have beat it at the box office.

    So you're saying that sales of a film partly depend on the viewer's satisfaction of the film before it?

    I'm half-viewing this at the moment (on 2nd monitor) to see if it really deserves 2nd bottom spot. No it doesn't, I might make bottom spot.

    Cons:
    - The villiains and henchmen/women are poor imitators of previous villains or done better in future movies
    - Really lazy script ("Ah so". "Stirred not shaken". Japanese fisherman was pointless and ridiculous, Kissy not named)
    - As if they did not name the main Bond girl. At least QoS gave us "Fields"
    - The fights are boring (Bond vs wrestler, vs Hans), not worse than some other films but hardly original.
    - You seriously expect me to believe Spectre 3 and 4 in this movie are Rosa Klebb and Kronsteen equivalents?? Pfft.
    - Kobe docks fight has grand music but nothing really happens
    - Blofeld reveal not as exciting as it was when I was young.
    - Magic monitors showing the helicopter and spaceships in flight

    Pros
    - Aki's death scene
    - Little Nellie
    - Volcano set
    - "Drop in the ocean"
    - Mr Henderson

    In summary there's little in this film I can't get from the rest of the series. The above scenes in pros were exciting to me as a kid...still ok now but not enough.

    I've noticed YOLT is one of the films that generally sits below average in rankings. Not super loved but rarely in the bottom few

    Thunderball was released at the peak of the spy craze, which had more or less run its course by the time YOLT was released.
