All in all a rather good start for a new Bond era, a very solid performance by Pierce, which I enjoyed immensely in 1995 and still do, some awesome scene (dam jump, tank chase, the fight with Trevelyan) good introduction of supporting characters and the best villain of the Brosnan era. Cons are the plane jump and some rather bad special effects (the crash of the russian fighter plane into Severnaya is clearly a model and you recognize it the moment you see it).
It always has a pretty good fight with TLD for my 5th place in my top five.

Well, they made a mistake designing the death star, that's why. Only they knew, and that's why the death star plans were secret. But the rebel alliance stole them. That's a reason. But why does Pierce Brosnan risk his life doing that base jump? for fun?

Now I'm not saying there's any logic to it But this is how I imagine it.............
Because the " weak spot" in security was at the bottom of a 600 ft drop, The Russians weren't too
worried anyone would be crazy enough to try ( Didn't count on 007)
Once inside Bond and his mate would work their way up, to destroy all those nasty canisters. then steal a
plane to escape. Sadly it didn't quite work out that way But as Bond escapes, He knows ( from weeks of
surveillance ) that a plane should be getting ready to take off. -{ Hence why it's not luck that a plane is there
but Brilliant tactical planning from Bond.
I can understand people have problems with the odd scene or sequence in Bond, But I always try and figure out a
backstory that ( with a stretch of the imagination ) works, ................ for me at least. )

I really liked the score, I see a lot of people don't like it that much, I think it fits the movie perfectly. The different instrumental soundeffects fits perfectly in in the environment of Russia IMHO.

I enjoy Goldeneye quite a bit. It's my favorite Brosnan Bond movie. I think Pierce makes a fine debut as 007, although he doesn't quite make up for the loss of Dalton, and the plot and the pace of the film work fine for me. Judi Dench is outstanding as M, and I like the two gorgeous Bond Girls, especially Famke. The action scenes are mostly routine, but I don't have a problem with them (not even the oft-complained about ending of the PTS). The title song is pretty good, but overall I'm unimpressed by the soundtrack. Bottom line - a welcome return of the Bond films series that left me looking forward to more Brosnan as Bond. None of his subsequent films really measure up to Goldeneye, although TWINE comes close, mostly due to Brosnan's strong performance.

Alec Trevelyan's motivations weren't all that hot either to be honest. Didn't ring true for me.

You Only Live Twice is more entertaining for me. That is despite Sean Connery's sub par performance, Bond's Japanese disguise. and a weak Blofeld. It is a guilty pleasure. Tomorrow Never Dies is guns, guns, and more guns. Bond was never more invincible. Paris Carver and Wai Lin leave me pretty cold (Aki and Kissy have the opposite effect). The only characters (apart from MI6) that I really warm to are Dr. Kaufman and Admiral Roebuck.

Tank chase in St Petersburg is visually stunning with a great score, right from Bond and Natalya's escape from the cell up to parking zee tank in the tunnel.
I enjiyed the world is not enough and maybe even the oft-maligned die another day more than goldeneye. But im not sure of the replay value factor. Maybe goldeneye has the best replay value

Perhaps not for TWINE, but certainly DAD.
GE has a more cartoony feel that any of Brosnan's other films, but as someone brought up (initially at least) on Moore's Bonds, there is a synergy there. The soundtrack tends to sit on top of the movie a little which is something that has always grated (in a similar way to the soundtrack of FYEO in many respects).
Given the length of time since Dalton's previous outing, I am always amazed how well GE sits in the canon though. Stunning locations, Bond girls, action scenes and a storyline that was current. The subplots were generally well considered and connected with the main plot. Brosnan was a slick Bond, but he was able to display a slightly colder emotional Bond that distanced himself from the slightly touchy-feely Dalton.
YOLT is explosions, explosions, and more explosions.

CR is chases, chases, and more chases.
Etc.
