Luckily for me, I'm in love with the Bond films, so like with
Old friends and lovers. I don't see the odd blemish, or wrinkle
On an otherwise beautiful face. I don't notice the passing of time
With the occasional grey hair. My love is ...... Unconditional.
"I've been informed that there ARE a couple of QAnon supporters who are fairly regular posters in AJB."
I had more fun watching TND, TWINE and DAD the first time. But GE is the one I want to rewatch the most.
That's because it was the best written.
But Michelle Yeoh was the best Bond girl, and David Arnold delivered the best non-Barry score, and Carver was the most delicious villain. If that's forgettable, then please let me forget a lot more. )
Carver and his plan weren't believable. Carver looks like the waiter at the restaurant I go to every Christmas Eve. and I don't feel like he's the embodiment of Hearst. Michelle was cool. The gadgets were awesome. But the movie seems to forget that Bond is a spy - not a video game character that kills 30 people with a smile and then moves onto the next level.

Awww.. bless And that is exactly how I see them {[]
The opening action sequence is the pure, cinematic EON-Bond that audiences had missed for six long years. I went with some friends and we really enjoyed it, despite it's flaws in logic and bending the laws of physics. Could Bond really catch that plane midair and get in it? Of course not, but the audaciousness of him leaping off the cliff after it and actually getting it is something audiences grew to expect from EON's Bond. Had this been a Craig entry they would have written it so he would have thrown out the pilot as the plane was beginning to leave (shades of Tim on the seaplane in LTK) and escaped that way.
Audacionesness? I would call that jump plain suicidal in the real world. And Bond is a spy in the real world, not Superman or Batman. That jump set the tone for the Brosnan years...the helicopter chasing the motorbike, surfing the tsunami, invisible car...Craig films' stunts are highly improbable, but possible, as Fleming wrote Bond.
Sorry for the misspelling.
Yes, it would be suicidal in the real world and as I said, Craig would not have done this as the rebooted series tries to be more realistic, though I consider the whole crane chase at the beginning of CR to be suicidal. No matter how skilled a parkour runner is (and Bond was not supposed to be one), they clearly did superhuman feats in those scenes as no one came out of the action with as much as even a cracked rib.
I think all the other Bond's have taken what in the real world would be fatal choices in at least one course of action (Moore jumping out of a plane sans parachute for example). Which is why EON continued with this reckless behavior in GE. Like it or not, it was done just to give a surprising thrill to the audience (like the bungee jump) so they would say "Did he really just do that"!? You're right - it takes away from the reality of his abilities and places him on the skill level of a comic book superhero and I appreciate your dislike of this (it's one of the things I dislike on one level as well), but it still didn't keep me from enjoying the film on the whole.

Something as simple as cutting out the two shots of Brosnan gaining on the plane would make that sequence look a whole lot better. Remember, it's not what a character does, it's how believable it LOOKS.

That's a good point. It's all how believable it looks.

Of course many things Bond does are suicidal in the real world. Some of them are filmed very simply and look believable as chrisisall points out. The crocodile farm scene in LALD comes to mind.
It's not just the mountain jump in the GE PTS. It's the whole thing. I really dislike that PTS intensely for many reasons.

Yeah, the geography of the whole PTS is totally whack. They were trying to do a LOT on a shoestring. Less would have been quite a bit more. But I DO love Brosnan's line, "Shut the door Alec, there's a draft." -{
Just rewatched it tonight. And I enjoyed it much more.
I think the problem was that it was a lot to absorb the first time, but it got better with the 2nd viewing. It had lots of depth, great story, the serious moments, the funny moments, one of the best casts of actors overall in a single Bond movie, lots of memorable scenes, a little social commentary.
Perhaps the biggest (and, really, only) big gripe I had with it was that the first hour had slow bits. It kind of reminds of Dr. No. They had a variety of different scenes to introduce Bond since this was a re-invention of Bond for gen-X'ers and millennials. All of these served to help the narrative, but I can't help but feel like some fat could have been cut somewhere.
So, I had more fun with DAD and TND my first viewing, but GE grew on me and had so much more things that just stayed with me long after I watched it.
On the PTS, I agree the directing of the rappeling scene was so dull that it lacked any weight, but once Brosnan lands in the bathroom stall, it gets better and better. I particularly love the scene where Brosnan basically detonates the facilities and sneaks out unharmed.
I thought Sean Bean and Famke Janssen were great as the villains but they easily overshadowed Isabella Scopuro and Pierce Brosnan. I actually wanted the villains to succeed in GoldenEye. Sean Bean is much more convincing as a secret agent than Pierce Brosnan, who looks like he works in a bank.

TND was forgettable. DAD was memorable, but in both good and bad ways. TWINE was almost a classic but lacked serious refinement.
