Pros:
Some pretty good action sequences including climactic fight.
Soviet statue 'graveyard'.
Very appealing Bond girls.
Cons:
Mannered, self-conscious performance by Brosnan.
Mediocre script with amateur-level dialogue.
Vile electronic score by Eric Serra (orchestral stuff is rather good).
Static TV-movie direction by Campbell with far too many close-ups and medium shots; no fluid camerawork.
PTS skydive after falling plane just as idiotic as DAD parasurfing scene.
Wade.
Boris.
Thoroughly undeserved reputation as one of the best Bond films continues to pervade fan communities.
Looks and feels medium budget throughout.

I thought the score was great. And is one of my favorites. The percussion sounding background always makes me smile everytime I hear it. The PTS is not all that ridiculous when you compare it to other Bonds. I actually like Wade and Boris quite a bit. Tank action scene was very well shot as was the train scene. I don't think it's Brosnan best performance as Bond, but I think he did extremely well for his debut.
Bond girls are great. Some of the best. Villians are great. Also Judi as M is fantastic.

I agree with most of this, though I never found the Bond girls that appealing. Most of my friends in the 90s said they thought GoldenEye was a great movie, but then I realised it was because they liked it because of the video game. The movie made for a fantastic video game and that will always be its legacy.

It's a great game undoubtedly. But I think we are all big enough Bond fans to rate a movie higher just because the video game was great. Some might like your freinds as that is what they relate GoldenEye to. But it to me personally is a phenominal film.

I don't agree. Just because the film translated well into a game doesn't make it any better of a film.

1. For Your Eyes Only 2. The Living Daylights 3 From Russia with Love 4. Casino Royale 5. OHMSS 6. Skyfall
Probably the first Bond film I ever saw so it's just hanging onto the top 6. I can see its flaws as has been pointed out in this thread but for the most part it is highly rewatchable. Sometimes you just gotta not overanalyse things and enjoy what's presented to you.
Pros:
- Fine introduction for Brosnan. He is definitely more confident in his next performance but he is well directed here, but not as well as Connery or Craig in their debuts.
- One of the best cast of villains, second or equal to Octopussy's ensemble.
- Tank chase and PTS
- Fight scenes among the best in the series
- Car chase (minus music)
Cons
- THE MUSIC. With a Barry score this could easily be a top Bond film for me.
- Jarring dialogue. Good at times but totally takes you out of the experience sometimes
Unfortunately the cons are major ones and may cause the film to slide down further in future Bondathons.
I love this movie. So much to be said about it. :x

- PTS. Yep it has its holes but it's big, brash, fun and a great introduction to Brosnan and Bond being back. The bungee jump is awesome, while the concept is simple, the jump is massive and it always surprises me how long the jump goes for. No soundtrack on this is a major plus.
- Title song is great, the fade in (from explosion) is awesome and Daniel Kleinman's titles are sharp.
- Judi Dench. Awesome performance, totally owns it, starts her near-2 decade tenure.
- I like the corrupt old Russia/new-Russia storyline, in particular Ourumov. Mishkin is a good counter too. Good acting from these two. Old weapon being re-used is an intriguing story.
- Izabella Scorupco is gorgeous and there really is good chemistry between herself and Brosnan.
- Xenia plays the part well, I like it.
- The score works, it's bonkers, but it works.
- The Caribbean location is nice and BMW suits it.
- Monte Carlo scenes are great, including the casino intros, sequences on Admiral's launch, stealing of Eurocopter.
- The battle between Alec and Bond at the end is tough as nails "No, for me".
- The romantic ending is cool, with the appearance of Wade/marines.
- The end-credit song is lovely, I play this song often as a non-Bond song!
- I think the escape from the Eurocopter is excellent, score is great here.
- Pacing of the scenes at MI6.
- Valentin Dmitrovich Zukovsky is played really well, better than TWINE reprisal. Love the comic relief here as it's well done. "Silence!"
- Jack Wade is all good.
- Gunbarrel.
Some specific Pros:
- My favourite Ferrari 355 features in an awesome race sequence.
- My favourite plane the Boeing 757 features
- Mentions New Zealand
Cons:
- Sean Bean is a weak villain and his story sucks, I actually think the film would be better if it was just against Ourumov.
- Brosnan does seem a bit weak or muted.
- I enjoy Boris less and less each time I watch.
- The archives, tank and train scenes drag. The tank scene is too unrealistic and stupid, the statue is too far. It's like the Bondola in MR.
- Some of the dialogue is a bit heavy handed, is this a Martin Campbell thing? Like CR?
Overall:
I'll always enjoy GE, I think there's a lot right with this film and I enjoy the pacing of it. While there are flaws, they don't ruin the movie for me and I'm never bored watching this.
I am surprised this film gets as much flak as it does, perhaps if I was a fan when it was released I may feel differently.
I agree with others who say this film replays well. Something also about the films budget/feeling is it's not too heavy in scale. I really feel the link between older Bond films and this new era.

Wow don't hear this every day, that's probably the most shocking against the grain opinion I've ever heard on a Bond forum.
As for the script, could be just a coincidence. GE's script history is messy, and CR had Haggis add his weird lines to it
