I've just watched the trailer for Kingsman with Colin Firth and think it's a little similar to a James Bond Film which made me think that it may be a good watch to ready ourselves/ keep us going until the main event in October/ November - SPECTRE, what does everyone else think.

Could not possibly be as bad as Casino Royale 1967! 8-)
Although with the suits and Umbrellas, I think it's more strongly
Influenced by John Steed and the Avengers ?
Sorry, but I have no idea what you are talking about. ?:) And judging from the generally positive critical notices and box office success of Craig's Bond films, I am apparently not alone. :007)
I thought it had an 'Avengers ' feel too.
I won't be watching the film ... just Colin Firth
Bridle and saddle ?
I share your sentiment of the re-booted Bond. I wonder if the pendulum will swing in the other direction and Bond films will be similar to Kingsman. (Which may be too over-the-top for me)

Agreed, the Craig Films have been extremely successful -{
Complete serious tone of " Tinker Tailor ..... ". -{ for me the Craig era has
Walked the right line of Humour and story. If the Bond producers were to
Panic every time a spy movie came out, I don't know what the Bonds might have
Looked like, given the success of Austin Powers, Bond would have gone all
" Benny Hill", then with the success of " Tinker Tailor ..." Bond would have become
Very serious !
I think the Producers know what they're doing, no need for Panic. )
I can only see the Bourne infulence in QOS ( understandable as loads of the Bourne team were involved). As for
CR, it looks to me a pretty traditional Bond film, even SF ( In my Opinion) is a traditional Bond film.
"Entertainment" is the missing thing you can't put your finger on. The villains have been weak or mediocre and the writers are spending too much of the films trying to get inside Bond. There are two terms that can be applied to films - esoteric and exoteric - interior-focussed vs exterior-focussed. Action films like Bond are predominantly exoteric - if I want a deep and meaningful character study I'll watch a Merchant Ivory or Woody Allen film. By moving Bond into the esoteric space they are subverting everything that makes Bond entertaining. Bond only needs a minimum of esoteric content, eg the impulse to get justice or revenge, that's enough.
And yet millions were entertained by the recent spate of Bond films, so there's that..................
When I say that I include the spectrum from the Fleming classics of Dr No and GF, the extravigence and silly in YOLT and MKR, thrillers like FRWL and FYEO, and modern twists like TWINE and CR-06. Only QoS short circuits because of the editing.
However, having seen Kingsman, I can say I enjoyed it and definitely hardens back to the entertaining yet extravigent era of the Moore films. It does so unashamedly as the director intended. Is that bad for Bond? No. But I do miss the CR-06 level of mischievous humour I felt QoS and SF lacked by comparison. Kingsman is not competition, and at one point Bond is directly name checked. I see it as a funny, slightly surreal bonus spy film. One that delightfully doesn't take itself too seriously.
I haven't seen any of the Bourne films and have no wish to. Jeremy Renner is great as Hawkeye in the Avengers, and Matt Damon is an actor I can take or leave.
Great fun, absolutely not in competition with Bond, a completely different
Approach. Over the top fun/action/violence. In fact it's like someone decided to
Do a serious remake of Austin Powers !
If you liked kickass you'll like Kingsman -{
Just got back from the theater and did a search to see if anyone was already discussing this. I thought Kingsman was fantastic as well, totally not Bond though (obviously).
I like your comparison to a serious remake of Austin Powers, it really almost is up until the last twenty or so minutes. I thought it was really great though, was half expecting it to be a flop, but I think it was well worth the price of admission.
As more people see this movie on here I'd love to hear their opinions.
Kingsman, is superheroes in Suits.
