    Bond vs Grant remains the standard to which all the others are measured, a tribute to those involved. Robert Shaw is outstanding in From Russia With Love, the best and most convincing villainous portrayal in the entire series, IMO. Sean Connery isn't too bad either. :D

    I'm sure if you looked at fights in other films of 1963, FRWL must
    Have looked Brutal, almost a bit of street fighting. I remember
    Reading, that it was severely cut in Australia ?

    I wished they had kept the absolute Psychotic Part of Grants Personality that is in the Novel. Fleming described him as having a 'Red Fire burning in his Eyes' -{

    I wonder given his experience during the war, did Fleming
    Base Grant on any one person, or on a type of person that
    The KGB may have used ? There are plenty of psychopaths
    Out there. :#

    Bond and Trevelayan's fight in the uncut edition of Goldeneye is brutal, but the fight between Bond and Grant on the train in FRWL wins for me.

    I agree with Bond vs. Grant, and,yes, it was brutal seeing on screen back in 1963;still is...

    Grant, cos of the build up and execution in a cramped space. Bond and Trev is a bit round the houses, almost like Bond and Lippe in NSNA. Shaw really snorts like a bullet headed thug too.

    As everyone says, Bond vs. Grant is the high-water mark for all the fight scenes of the series, but when I first watched GE in the theater, among many aspects of the movie I was thrilled with the fight scene in the end, the likes of which we last saw in the Amsterdam elevator fight in DAF. I believe it was a testament to Bob Simmon's early fight choreography and Peter Hunt's editing that were sorely missing in the Moore and (sadly) Dalton films; so that's practially 24-25 years later. To be in my shoes especially after I began reading the Bourne novels in the 80's, I craved to see old school fights again and wondered why they weren't doing them.

    In terms of action sequences, GE raised the bar for the series particularly in the high-speed chase (AM vs. Ferrari), the OTT tank chase, OTT shootout in St. Petersburg (the novelty of OTT first instances lets them get way with them!) and nowadays Brosnan gets some flak for "running like a girl" but up to that point that was the most serious running Bond has done on the screen (perhaps with the exception of Dalton in the PTS of TLD) only to be topped by Craig in CR.

    Even though I'm in the minority here, I'd go for Bond vs. Trevelyan; one of the reasons that GE is such a great, fun film. -{

    No one is supposed to talk about Hans and Bond ! ;)

    I have mentioned it before on one of the threads on fights. I like it
    and the fight in Osato's office, sadly though. They're both too short
    and for my taste a little over clever, too many " moves". Where with
    The train fight in FRWL and the stairwell fight in CR, they look more
    real, as if it's a real fight ! {[]

    +1.

    I don't think the fights Bond had with athletically superior opponents were as interesting vs. fights with equally-matched opponents. Basically in the Connery movies, those unmatched fights were with Odd Job and Hans where the other guy lumbers around and is largely unaffected by Bond’s blows though I guess it's just how they're written, regardless of how good the stunt performers were. However, also in YOLT, the Sumo wrestler who you would think is another Odd Job, surprises us with an interesting fight and mixes up with Bond nicely, thanks of course to the quick-cut editing technique of the Bond vs. Grant fight and the inventive aspects of the fight like the uses of a samurai sword, a couch and a stone sculpture; I think Bob Simmons was also involved in those fights, so creds to him as well.

    The fight with Jaws on the train is so slow. As you say it's
    Just a bit of fun as Bond gets thrown round the carriage.

    The build up in the film is exceptional so it has to be Donovan "Red" Grant

    I don't take the Trevelyan seriously.I saw Sean Beans arse go up and down the week before in Lady Chatterley's lover
