I was last week in Milan and found an alternative to the BC trousers. The brand is called eleventy. Discoverd the brand in Fall 2013 and in some fashion Blogs the are named as 2nd BC and indeed when you look at their style on www.eleventy.it looks identical to BC. For those who are interested eleventy run a lot of stores in Italy and in South Korea but you can find them in several fashion stores as well. Eleventy is also available on farfetch.com.

I think there was a mention in this thread that Tom Ford supplied three cocktail cuff shirts, in white, light blue and darker blue (I'm not going through 254 pages to find it), excluding the Rome one with collar bar. The white one is worn with the Morocco linen jacket and the darker blue one in a Jonathan Ross interview, but I don't recall seeing any reference to the light blue one. I have found a picture from the Berlin premiere of SPECTRE showing Daniel Craig possibly wearing this shirt. I don't believe this has been mentioned before:

With Spectre and its ensuing clothing fervor in the rearview mirror now. I'm curious what everyone's thoughts are regarding the wardrobe? is it your favorite of the Craig era, or the series? whats your favorite piece/outfit? least favorite piece/outfit? and also what have you been wearing the most and least?

I'm curious what everyone's thoughts are regarding the wardrobe? is it your favorite of the Craig era, or the series? whats your favorite piece/outfit? least favorite piece/outfit? and also what have you been wearing the most and least?

In brief: Sad to say, but it's my least favourite. I haven't bought a single item directly from the film, and the only 'inspired' piece I've got is a charcoal mock neck sweater by Brooks Brothers that looks remarkably similar to the N.Peal. I should also add that many of the items in Spectre seem laughably overpriced to me and I wouldn't bother with them even if I was some sort of tax-avoiding 'businessman' with a shell-company in Panama.

I enjoyed Spectre, I really did, glaring plot issues and all. But none of the outfits stood out to me. By contrast, I'm still chasing down items from QoS, Skyfall, and Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

In long (rant warning): I don't even know what they were trying to achieve this time around, sartorially speaking. A blatant rip-off of a Moncler jacket by Tom Ford? A $900 TF polo made in a cotton-poly blend? Sanders chukka's instead of Church's or C&J? Boots by J.Crew? Wtf? For the record I like J.Crew, but when I think of where I want to buy boots from, I don't exactly run to them. Are they even goodyear welted?

In some ways, the wardrobe feels like a cobbled together mess, perhaps original designs had inexplicable pieces thrown in for product placement. The first half of Spectre made sense, more or less. Black, gaudy outfit to appear as an Italian mafioso, or gear that seems vaguely appropriate for skiing in Austria. But just as the plot begins to go off the rails, fittingly we get outfits that make less sense. A thick leather jacket over a TF polo, in Tangier? Because I guess Matchless already had a contract for a product in the film and there was nowhere else to put it? DC must have been sweating his balls off in that ensemble. The cream dinner jacket makes perfect sense, and there's even an establishing scene where he asks a bellyboy to have it pressed for him. But the jacket has 2 buttons? Why does it need 2 buttons? It's been a trend in dinner suits over the past few years, because I guess a lot of designers don't know what they're doing when it comes to black tie. The dreaded centre-vent in Skyfall was also a blunder but at least it had some logic behind it, adding movement to the jacket so Bond is more mobile, where as here there's just another stupid button like the they took a template from a normal business suit.

We're almost back on track with a light brown linen outfit in the Morocco desert, looks awesome, makes sense. How long do we see this? About 2 minutes before its quickly disposed of for a bespoke TF suit Blofeld just had laying around (in case of sudden Bond visit?) Later on there's the cool John Varvatos jacket, in an outfit that is oh-so-close to being iconic (for me). But why the hell would you pair a charcoal mock neck with charcoal trousers? Why not deep brown or faded black? Or if the trousers are charcoal, why not change the colour of the sweater? The Sanders chukka's seem cheap and lame to me, every review I've read for them says they don't last long and the soles get filthy. Maybe Bond didn't have time to get to the C&J store for some Moltons? It feels like a random product placement.

None of the suits make me want to run out and replicate them, where as despite the overly-tight fits in Skyfall, I loved the styling and have my own (better fitting) versions inspired by the film. To end on a positive note, the Mr. White sequence is my favourite in the film, and I actually quite like that outfit. I just wish the jacket wasn't so pointlessly rare, and the N.Peal cost less than a months rent.

I agree with a lot of this, I understand Bond is a fantasy character and wears the "best" but in Spectre I felt it went overboard a bit. But Bond always had an unattainable aspect to him so I suppose its warranted.

I didn't necessarily hate the outfits in SPECTRE.. I liked the styling... but would agree that for me the pricing on the originals was absurd... Again, Thats strictly my personal stance on the pricing in comparison with my salary etc etc... Last time I made commentary about absurd pricing I may have ruffled feathers.. In the end its all a personal thing though... I do not blame anyone with the means in getting those items I guess... I was able to acquire the Skyfall jackets without too much pain in my wallet.. (BR, Barbour, & Menlo).. But $1300 for the Matchless with that god awful douche logo emblazoned on the sleeve ?!? No.. nope.. never.. I just can't wear clothing with huge "hey look what brand I'm wearing" logos.. screams pretentious douche bag in my opinion... So yeah in that particular case, wouldn't own it even if I could drop that kind of cash on a jacket.. Not to mention the price tag on the Dior (which was my favorite look of the film).. However, I'll be just as pleased with Dan's when it is released... Same as I was with the Solden jacket of his... I do really like the look of the TF polo.. but again.. really ?!? $900 for.. a polo ?? Perfect example of dropping cash for a name.. I don't care how intricate the stitching is.. end of the day.. it's a polo shirt... shame that the Magnoli shirts had jacked up collars.. I rarely wear mine..
All said and done.. I prefer the Skyfall casual clothing... I do however love the look of the PTS suit in Spectre.. Likely having a close enough made through Oliver Wicks soon.. As $600 is much more reasonable in my world :)

Also agree with a few things however I think we also need to differentiate the difference between the film and us as customers e.g. I would not expect the viewer to know the Polo and Dior costs an obscene amount - hence I only ever critique the clothing selection on looks rather then on price when viewing the film itself as I'm sure the film crew don't care if the Sanders are not as comfy as CJs etc

Now as a hardcore collector who wants some of these pieces - thats when the price gets flagged up and also the quality of these items are questioned!!!

Off the top of my head...

The polo - yup i think everybody who bought one cannot justify the price, obscene totally!

Sanders are poorly made in my opinion and not comfy at all, worn mine once and the sole looks like I've worn them for months however..... the JCREW boots were fantastic and a nice surprise as I was expecting them to be shoddy and uncomfortable, how wrong was I!

Matchless Jacket - not SA and I'm still not convinced that only 700 were made. Somebody mentioned it being thick - its actually very lightweight and thin however I'm still not convinced I would wear in Morocco (then again I would struggle to wear a suit in Istanbul too) Ive yet to wear mine but think it does look cool on DC, prob not on me :D

TF we all know from Quantum to SPECTRE that they replicate things and the price element is much discussed - maybe TF will be done when Craig leaves if he hasn't already. I loved the leftfield choice TF fabric for the PTS however was not keen on the Final suit and Rome disguise but understand for the Mafia kind of thing why it was chosen.

I think SPECTRE had quite a mix of items:

    Super Pricey (Dior / TF)
    Pricey (Matchless / CJ)
Lower end that could be found in sales (JV before the reissue / JCREW Boots / Orlebar)

Ive enjoyed the clothes in the DC era especially the jackets as a highlight as I think they have now covered everything over the 4 films

Barbour Jacket / Various Leather Jackets / Peacoats / 2 x Harringtons / Ski Blouson

I find it hard to choose a specific film to be honest when it comes to the clothes however maybe QoS just sneaks it due to:

    2 x Harringtons (I love wearing them)
TF Ties - these were the best Bond ties ever in my opinion
Greene Party TF Suit - the best from the DC era in terms of look and fit
    Shawl Cardigan / McQueen look

Maybe 1) QoS 2) Casino Royale 3) SPECTRE and Skyfall as a tie / draw

In a nutshell its been a very diverse wardrobe whether its suits / sunglasses / jackets etc

Good point bringing up the sunglasses Welshboy... Always regretted not picking up the QOS TF aviators when they were not off the reservation expensive.. Did get the Markos.. However those are by far the most poorly constructed sunglasses I have picked up.. Both nose pads popped off rather quickly and eventually a lens popped out as well... I do love the TF Henrys I picked up... Great style and they seem to be well made... Haven't gotten the Snowdens.. Not sure f they would work for me and want to try them on in a store first... My favorites are still both of the CR Persols.. Grabbed both at good prices... On that note.. wish that when Magnoli was doing sunglasses replicas he had opted for the QOS style as opposed to the Markos... Still wouldn't mind picking up that style of aviator..
  • welshboy78welshboy78 Posts: 10,320MI6 Agent
Yeah ditching Persols was a poor decision however the Henry's seem fairly decent. The TF108s are not impressive build wise and I would go for the OPs over them any day

I have a small head so I picked up a pair of TF Snowdons, largely because they're both set apart from other sunglasses of the Craig era and they recall the early Connery era (to me). The rest? Gotta agree with JMac. The only thing I got from the Spectre go-round was the Canada Goose Lodge hoody in Spirit.

It's telling to me that my big Bond purchases - on a year when a new Bond movie came out - were a pair of C&J Islays and the Conduit Cut from Anthony Sinclair.

Generally tf sunglasses are pretty poorly built, nice designs though. I've had no issues with my markos falling apart or my snowdens or Henry's but put next to my Persol 714's the quality just doesn't compare, when you look at the detail in Persols they become good value next to tom ford's.

To me Quantum remains the strongest for LOOKS that I like...be they casual or dress, I think Quantum did it right and the looks suit me...I think out of all four movies, in the long run Spectre will have the least amount of looks I go back to...though I am partial to the Morocco outfit with the suede jacket...

+1 for most of what has already been said.

Overall, QoS was the best for me in terms of maintaining a consistent style I liked throughout the film, with Skyfall coming second. I tended to cherry pick looks or individual pieces from Casino Royale and SPECTRE. I'm not much of a suit person, so my focus was more on the casual styles.

Top looks for me: TF Harrington outfit; Haiti/CR Jamaica return outfit (jean fit was much better in QoS, but I am assuming they were meant to be interchangeable from a story perspective); TF black cardigan meeting Mathis outfit; pretty much everything he wore in Morocco (although I don't think I could pull off the TF polo, both figuratively and literally :D ); Barbour in Scotland look; and Enjoying Death. Neither the JV racer outfit or the Alfani shirt look did much for me.

What I'm gathering is that much like the film itself, the wardrobe from Spectre has a few highlights but mostly didn't leave an impression?
To answer my own question I loved the Rome TF outfit and the Morocco/Tangier outfits and a few bits here and there. This is contrasted with SF where I loved every single outfit Bond wore, yes even the skin tight suits. I think SFs outfits blended with the character much better then Spectre's where the product placement felt a bit too heavy handed at times. in regards to how his clothes fit, did anyone else think some of his casual outfits where too unnecessarily tight? like the London finale outfit. The tight fit of his clothes stood out more in this then in SF.

Maybe I am the only one who finds it a bit strange that the BC belt in the Morocco waiting scene was double bent (like it was too long) and the trousers were rolled up ,,, like there were too long, too ,,, i know it is in fashion to roll up a little ,,, and we hardly see DC without his jeans lolled up at least once ,,, but somehow the BC trousers look a bit odd to me ,,, (of course with boots you want the trousers to be a bit shorter than normal in order not to drown the booths - I am only taling about the way the are rolled up, the how and not the hight to which they are rolled ,,, )

however i do like the look of the outfit and combination and copy it with frugal items ...

I have to agree with much of what has been said.

QOS is the best in terms of overall looks, both casual and suits. The Harrington and Y3 are favorites of mine, as are the sand Sta-Prest and the Church Ryders. As for the suits I really liked the Green Party suit and the Opera tux. I also love the look of the sunglasses; so much so I got a pair of Oliver Peoples Airman.

All the other films are picking and choosing various items.

With CR its the sunglasses, the Sunspel polos, the Ted Baker trousers, the Alfani, the Madagascar shirt, and the great Armani leather jacket.

Skyfall: I liked the overall looks and choices (if not the fits), but the only stand out pieces were the Istanbul suit, BR peacoat, C&J boots, and the Markos, which in reality were pretty poor sunglasses to own.

Spectre is last on the list. No suits or tuxes appealed to me. I do like the jackets a lot. Also the J Crew boots are great, and the BC Morocco outfit.

I am of the opinion that Spectre is the weakest of the Craig films clothing wise as well. However, I love the Morroco outfit with the Matchless jacket and the navy polo and the sky blue linen shirt. Also love the BC jacket and pants and the TV knit tie. The JCrew boots were also an inspiration. The Mr. White outfit is also fantastic, but I live in Florida, so piecing that together is on the back burner. May put the JV outfit together some day, but I'm not losing any sleep over it. However, I am very interested in the grey TF polo found in Bonds suitcase at the Paris exhibit, and for me, this is like a secret song at the end of the CD outfit, and is making Spectre feel more rounded out for me. I have no idea what he would have paired the grey shirt with though, and I keep wondering if the remaining clothes in the suitcase might solve that mystery. But, we may never know. I've been trying to contact the Barbican regarding the issue, as I can't find any way to contact EON, and I am not having much luck. But, I will keep trying, and would encourage those interested to do the same. The remaining pieces of clothing in the suitcase are a part of Bond memorabilia history, and I would hate to see that history go undocumented like so many other items have been.

When judging the clothing of the movies I guess it really comes down to how much I've ended up buying from each movie...

I actually really like the Spectre clothing, not considering the outrageous prices of some of the items.
I really liked the Mexico, Rome, and Morocco suits (both BC and TF), as well as the JV racer, Matchless jacket, TF down jacket, and OB shirt. Wasn't too fond of the TF polo nor the anthracite suit in the end (which is in my opinion worst looking suit in the Craig era). I also really like the accessories, in particular the sunglasses, Mulberry gloves and Emma Willis scarf.

I've ended up buying from Spectre:
    Snowdon and Henry sunglasses
    Mulberry gloves
    OB shirt
    TF shirt
    Omega NATO strap
    "JV" racer alternative
    "BC" jacket and trousers alternative
    "JCrew" boots alternative
    "TF" down jacket alternative (Royale)

Looking to buy the Royale "Dior" jacket as well. Tempted to buy the Emma Willis scarf and a windowpane suit.

Skyfall did nothing for me clothing-wise (incidentally, I also consider it the worst of the Craig movies, but still good). Besides the non-optimal fit of the suits, I didn't really like the suit patterns and combinations. The Scotland outfit is not my style at all, but then again, it probably suits someone older than 20 better. I liked the Istanbul suit and Shanghai outfit the most, but the tuxedo and Zara shirt look good as well.

I've ended up buying from Skyfall:
    TF shirt
    Acne Wall Street trousers
    Zara Enjoying Death shirt
    Shanghai v-neck alternative
    "BR" peacoat alternative (Royale)
    "Topman" grey chino alternative

Quantum of Solace was inarguably the best movie for me clothing-wise. There is not a single outfit I dislike, so I've more or less bought everything I could afford and/or find from the movie. Also, I am very please with how the suits fit Craig in the movies.

I've ended up buying from QoS:
    TF shirt
    Omega Seamaster
    Levi's khaki chinos
    Levi's cream chinos
    Sunspel black polo
    TF sunglasses
    Prada belt
    "TF" cardigan alternative
    "Church's" brown chukka alternative
"TF" Bolivia, Greene, PTS, and London tie alternatives (Magnoli)
    "TF" Harrington alternative (Royale)
    "7FAM" grey jeans alternative
"Regency" inspired charcoal and midnight blue suits (unfortunately way too small now due to a large weight increase :)) )

Would very much like the Royale "Y-3" jacket as well as the suits.

Casino Royale had it's ups and downs. I didn't like the suits at all due to the boxy cut, but the tuxedo was, in my opinion, the nicest in the Craig era. I like the casual outfits a lot, though.

I've ended up buying from Casino Royale:
    Sunspel Riviera navy polo
    Sunspel Riviera grey t-shirt
    Sunspel navy long sleeve polo
    Navy Venice chino alternatives
    Train tie alternative
    "John Lobb" Luffield alternatives

I would like to get my hands on the Ted Baker trousers, the Jack Purcell shoes and of course the Armani leather jacket.

So the final verdict must be: :D
    1. QoS
    2. SP
    3. CR
    4. SF

I can understand why the QOS wardrobe is so revered, its the wardrobe that first got me into Bond clothing. Then SF was the first film I got actual pieces from.

Jacob Mortenson... Agreed on the SPECTRE PTS suit... check out these options @ Oliver Wicks :

You can customize them to be cut in a 3 roll 2 button arrangement.. working cuff buttons etc... Considerably more affordable for those on a budget.

Completely agree on Spectre wardrobe. I was looking forward to it since I really liked SF wardrobe, but was flat out disappointed.

    SF purchases:

    PTS TF Suit
    PTS TF Tie (boom)
    Tetburys
    TF Shirt
    Magnoli Cufflinks
    Menlo
    Alex C&J
    Acne
    Smedley v neck
    Billy Reid
    TF144s
    Omega 8500 42mm
    Islays (sold)
    Orlebar shorts

I really liked QOS and am starting in that area, SP I bought the strap off of the Seamaster 300M. CR not my cup of tea.

What are your guys thoughts on Jany's comment saying she wanted a "younger more dynamic" look for Bond in Spectre? I think its interesting given that a central theme of SF was the acceptance of ageing, particularly Bonds.
