After rewatching, Im beginning go like LALD's PTS. It's simple, and gets us into the film. Am I the only one who finds the death at the UN meeting the creepiest though? No one there knows what happens, he just almost leaps out of the chair in pain, and is creepy IMO.
I will just be listing from the movies I have seen and seen enough to remember them.
Best
Live and Let Die - No Bond in the intro is kind of interesting for being a first movie, but it sets up the movie quite nicely.
The Man with the Golden Gun - Again no Bond in the PTS? What is going on here? A nice setup for the film.
Octopussy - Fill her up please! Great!
OHMSS: This never happened to the other fellow.
License to Kill: Fantastic setup for the movie, I love the reeling in the plane, although I think that ranks near the top for 007 BS, am I right? Awesome nonetheless though.
GoldenEye: Superb introduction for Pierce Brosnan and again, my running theme which I will get to and will have a question for the board, sets up the film wonderfully.
Tomorrow Never Dies: Awesome action. Backseat driver!
World: That chase is one of my favorites and it happens right out of the gate? awesome way to start Bond 19.
Die Another Day: Another excellent start and another out of the gate chase scene? I'll take it and a great final bow for Brosnan as Bond.
Casino Royale: Bond gets his first two kills to achieve 00 status....Too early perhaps?
Skyfall: Excellent!
I think it is quite obvious that I prefer that the PTS to directly setup the rest of the movie.
My question is: Do you prefer the pts to stand on it's own, be somewhat involved in that movie's plot or completely involved?
FYEO and GF are the standout stand alone pts for me.
1, GE 2, CR 3, SF 4, TWINE 5, Spectre 6, TMWTGG 7, DAD 8, LALD 9, AVTAK 10, LTK 11, Octopussy 12, Moonraker 13, TLD 14, GF 15, QOS 16, Tomorrow 17, FYEO 18. TSWLM Not seen much: Dr. No, Russia, Thunderball, Twice, Majesty.
1: Brosnan 2: Craig 3: Moore 4: Dalton 5: Connery and 6: Lazenby
Has anyone seen the extended PTS for Casino Royale?
The one that shows they are at a cricket match and Bond is shadowing Dryden's contact. This makes it far better as far as I am concerned, they should have used the full thing, if they had it would be my favourite.
To be honest, I loved the fight in the toilet in CR. It being at a cricket match
I don't think adds much to the scene ( except explaining, some of the pictures)
Could have been a public toilet in a hotel or train station. I think it works as it
Shows the unglamorous side of Bond's job, the dirty act of close up, hands on
Killing.
"I've been informed that there ARE a couple of QAnon supporters who are fairly regular posters in AJB."
Why wasn't this on the Blu Ray? Why do we have to troll through rouge YouTube accounts to get extended/unreleased footage?
I was surprised myself when I came across it, I never knew it even existed until about a year ago.
But I really do think it adds to the overall feel of the PTS here. I love when the guy spots Bond in the shadows at the match and is like "oh s*it". That extra little bit just adds to the tension of the scene for me.
It also, as TP says, shows the unglamorous side of Bond's job and the fact that he is still new at it. He is spotted at the match, the fight is scrappy, the kill is a bit messy etc.
I enjoyed watching the scene and I like having the backstory.
However, I can understand why the scene was shortened. It was nice exposition, but not necessary to the story and allowed the film to get to the real story sooner. The film was pretty long, so if they are going to cut, stuff like this makes sense. HOWEVER, for gosh sakes PUT IT ON THE BLU RAY! Idiots.
Thanks SFPROPS! -{ Such is the power of AJB! I never even knew this extended cut existed! I agree with the decision to use the shorter version. I think it works better because the shots of the cricket game and the contact's panicked run to the restroom really interfere with the buildup of tension and slows things down unnecessarily.

I saw it the other way, I think it adds to the tension as Bond is pursuing him.

I can understand that point of view, but for me the real tension in the scene is between Bond and Dryden. The intercut scenes of Bond's fight in the restroom contribute to that tension, while at the same time presenting a rather brutal kill to contrast with the "considerably" easier and cleaner kill of Dryden. I just don't think the scenes of the cricket game or the pursuit really add anything. I would be curious to see the extended scene with the director's commentary to learn why he trimmed the PTS.
I believe this PTS is available on the special features of my 3-disc special edition of Casino Royale (DVD). I haven't watched it in years so I'm not sure if there is an introduction by Martin Campbell or not.
I think this is one subject where your age becomes particularly relevant. TSWLM was an opening sequence that captivated all off us who witnessed it at that time. It captured the brilliance of Bond and was probably the most exciting stunt committed to film at that particular time. Obviously its impact has been diluted since but I still love it.
Speaking impartially though I thought the PTS of Goldeneye (kinda stupid but made Bond brilliant again) and Skyfall were both great with special mentions to TLD and TWINE which was entertaining but went on too long IMO.

Most likely running time, was CR not the longest running Bond film when it came out? I seem to remember reading that somewhere.

But I like QoS and TLD best I think.
Not keen on TND, though it was crap.
I liked the TND PTS. Great piece of action. David Arnold's 'White Knight' score is terrific and Pierce looks superb -{

For those who have yet to see the extended Casino Royale PTS.

Added anything to the final film.
