Rome Heritage Bosses say no to car chase in Rome

Heritage bosses have said they worry about the fountains of the four rivers and damage to the city's other monuments. They have said that they should use special effects to film the car chase. If they do, I hope it looks a bit better than tsunami surfing.

The real Quattro Fontane (Four Fountains) are four separate fountains that are carved into the corners of the buildings at the intersection of Via delle Quattro Fontane and Via del Quirinale.

Move the car chase to Austria-or will an Aston Martin in snow be too familiar?! I'd rather they didn't use special effects for a chase scene. Knowing they're actual stunts makes scenes in Bond films a lot more interesting. However, I am excited at the idea of a night time chase - with the exception of Goldfinger, won't this be the second night time chase?

I sure they'll be able to shoot some chase round rome, then
use a set ( as in GE) or a bit of cgi for the landmark.

I hope the Heritage people see the precedent they are setting by denying SPECTRE to shoot the chase scene. Other films will overlook shooting in Rome if the Heritage council/association/board will have a problem with every location during a shoot.

As Gala Brand pointed out, isn't all of Rome just one big landmark?

They should do what they did with " The French Connection" in New York.
They couldn't get the permits, so just went ahead and filmed the chase
Anyway ! )

Bond car chases in the past few films have been unremarkable. I'd rather they not bother if they're not going to excel.

London used to be like this. Then under the GLC they got their act together and London is used for filming.Now we have Whitehall being shut off for SF.

Opening a city up can do wonders for your tourist industry. Look what happened in Mumbai when they refused.

And in retrospect a member of the FC crew described it as "a terrible thing to do, it was dangerous and it was life threatening." So much so that the director (William Friedkin) did a lot of the camera work himself specifically because the other camera operators were married with children and he was not. There was at least one car crash that wasn't intended.

The cultural heritage officials have said no, not never. The article I read in the Telegraph quoted a cultural heritage official who said the scene was suspended, they were waiting for the producers to tell them how they intend to resolve the problem.

If it requires some relocation I doubt that will be a major problem. I am pretty confident it will all be resolved and that filming will go ahead.

I think they can work around this. There were problems around the tank chase in GE, I think, but they models and other tricks and it worked out fine,

I cant remember if they had any car chase stuff in Tom Hanks ,Angels and Demons , but they did all have a nice swim in the fountain in piazza navona

I'm sure there are drunks, people otherwise intoxicated, unlicensed drivers, and merely bad drivers who drive past this friggin fountain everyday. Does the Heritage Society do anything about them?

But they complain about a film scene involving expert drivers that's choreographed down to the nanosecond.
