Details we've noticed on BluRay that we've never noticed before...

After my roommate upgraded to a larger TV, I'm seeing details I've never seen before. What have you guys noticed?

I've seen TND numerous times, yet this was the first time I've noticed Stamper has two different eye colors. His left is blue, maybe a glass eye?

What have you all noticed?

    Sometimes films are "color corrected" after the fact which means you have to be careful about whether the details you see were in the original or done afterward by an engineer. But I will say this, too: For all the blather about how modern movies have such sharper images and better resolutions than old films, I can see the details a lot better in old movies and TV shows than in most modern films, mostly because of the lighting and quality of the color film stock.

    a bit off-topic.

    I am 6' 5 tall and was an extra for TND.

    I was in the fitting room to get my "costume" jacket, shirt and tie fitted and then came this TALL blond guy into the room and instantly all my senses screamed "danger".

    Otto had an even scarier appearance in real life back then - I can tell you :D

    Just out of interest Higgins, where are you in TND? I'll have to look out for you next time! :) -{

    I am in the rear seat of the second Mercedes S-Class when they are driving by the Atlantic Hotel in Hamburg.

    I've been one of Stamper's killers.

    It's not me in the scenes in the parking lot later - these have been shot with other people in the UK.

    I'll have to give TND a watch again soon, then. That's quite a claim to fame - being in a Bond film! Well done! :) -{

    Not to be childish... But the one thing I have noticed when watching all the films on blu ray is how many nipples have accidentally snuck on screen in some of the older movies. Almost jumped out of my chair the first time it happened as Bond films have always avoided direct nudity.

    Higgins! I had no idea - now I'll have to watch that scene over and over in slo-mo so I can brag to my wife and say "Hey, that's my pal from ABJ!" Of course she'll just roll her eyes at me and leave the room like she always does when I'm watching Bond, but at least I'll get a fleeting thrill out of it! :))

    Seriously, though, good for you old boy! -{

    I met him in 2002, MGM filmed part of the DVD extras down in EON's cinema, he came in for that, from what I remember I didn't recognise him as Stamper.

    Ummm... okay, you win this one, Higgins. ;%

    Seriously, that's really cool. Did you get paid? Cash or check? If check, did you photocopy it first? How was the catering? Did you see any stars up close?

    If you have a big screen TV you'll see a big difference between them.
    On smaller screens ( like my 32 inch) you'll still see a sharper, more
    Detailed image, as well as better contrast.

    Dunno if it's relevant to post here but could someone please explain the difference between BluRay & DVD in terms of picture quality? If I was to buy one could I play DVDs in it & would I see an improvement?

    In general, DVD's resolution is 4 times lower than Bluray.

    DVD#s maximum is 575 pixel lines horizontally, Blu Ray is 1080 lines.

    So, Blu ray has 4 times more pixels than DVD and you can see a significant improvement in terms of sharpness etc.
    But to create Blu Rays for Bond movies, most of the old movie masters have gotten digitally improved, which sometimes leads to a kind of unnatural colour tone.

    IMO the results are absolutely worth it to upgrade to Blu Ray and the 22 movie box is now below 100 Euros - less than 5 Euros/movie.

    Blu-Ray Players can all playback your old DVDs, some of them have an upscaling function which improved the DVD resolution without really reaching the Blu Ray quality.

    Well, it's about time that you realize how cool I really am :D

    Yes, I've gotten paid - in cash. Catering was ok, all extras have been catered by the IBIS hotel at the other side of the street. The IBIS has also been used for the roof shots of the Atlantic hotel and some months ago, they granted Remmert and myself permission to go onto their roof to get some pics. Really nice people there!

    I've seen Pierce for the entire 2 days when he was shot( do you say that?) around the hotel and Goetz Otto. No other celebrities where seen there.

    I've gotten the role thru personal connections, my best friend's father is a tv producer and his best friend was the Location Manager for Hamburg.
    My father's friend basically told him that he'd not work with him anymore if I won't get the job :D that's what the Location Manager told me :)) :)) :))

    Although as far as Bluray goes, you might be as well waiting for the
    Next generation of media, as 4k TV is coming ( 4 times better than bluray)
    So, I guess they'll Be bringing out 4k-blurays next. :D
