Which Spoof did it best?

Which James Bond spoof is the best? Not in quality of the film, but which one spoof Bond the best?

For me, it's got to be Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery. Whilst I like the sequels, they became less of a spoof of bond movies and more of general comedies. However, the first one has a Bond like villain, Bond like settings, and a Bond like girl.

    I regard the Derek Flint films as spoofs so I'd pick "our man flint" -{

    I loved Johnny English because I'm a huge Rowan Atkinson fan. Austin Powers 1 and 2 were great too.

    I can also recommend the two OSS 117 films with Jean Dujardin (I prefer the first). But no spoof beats Austin Powers 1. -{

    Johnny English is the best hands down. Funniest, not overtly crude like Powers, and probably the most cleverest spoof.

    Except for Dr Evil and his team*, I don't see Aystin Powers as specifically Bondian in its p-takes, it feels more gendrsl spy spoofing than that. CR-67 is a pyscedelic mess that needs a double scotch and looks a shambkes from a story perspective. I haven't seen Flint, so can't comment there.

    I would have to agree wuth Johnny English. It had its tongue firmly in its Rule Britannia cheek. Thebfirst one is better, in spite of a weak budget. Second onenhas better visual gags though.

    *I can't say "Minions" without thinking of giggly begoggled cute little yellow tic tac characters any more!

    Moonraker is the best Bond spoof; nothing else comes close.
    :))

    Re The Scouting For Girls Song, having seen the video (with the sound off) strikes me more as a salute Capt Scarlet? Maybe they were nervous of being sued!

    In the 1960s, among American or British films, the Flint series was probably the best -- and they were inferior to the Bond films in pretty much every way. Dean Martin's Matt Helm films were similar but looking even more meager in budget. They are entertaining, but as with Flint, the films have an American sensibility to them -- with less panache and scale than the Bond films and more juvenile humor and sexuality, a whole Las Vegas, ratpacker production. Kiss the Girls and Make Them Die, although quite low budget, almost seems a blueprint for Moonraker ten years later, and taken for what it is, entertains. The Hugh Drummond films, like Deadlier Than the Male, while having some Bond elements, were really dressed-up detective stories, so I don't think they really count. If so, then so would films like Peter Gunn and Some Girls Do would have to be included.

    In some ways, television offered better versions of the same thing. The Man from UNCLE, for instance, for the limitations of budget and small screen, could nonetheless serve up some Bondian adventures with wit and breeziness, at least in the first season. And then and now, I think Robert Vaughn pretty much looks like what I think of when it comes to a spy. The Wild, Wild West also had a lot of elements that the Bond films introduced. I won't count such wonderful shows as The Avengers, Secret Agent, or Mission: Impossible!, as these were not trying to be Bond in any way, save for the cool and wit.

    Oh yeah. It was definitely cool. And Fleming had a small hand in that. -{

    After watching Johnny English and Austin Powers again, I've come to this conclusion: Powers spoofs the Connery films, and English spoofs the Brosnan/Craig films.

    Powers also parodied the Moore movies since it was going for a 70s vibe and austin was more a lover than a fighter

    So would I - watched the third one again last night. Sure, it's not as good as the other two, but it still has some fantastic moments. And makes me want to watch You Only Live Twice again!

    I think the Flint films spoofed the EON series the best. Everything is exaggerated to such a degree - he's surrounded by women, has a cigarette lighter gadget that does dozens of things, is a martial arts expert and his enemy is a parody of SPECTRE who are using the weather as a weapon. Even the credits and score are great riffs on the Bond films (thank you Mr. Goldsmith).

    Watched them many times - their classics of the genre for me. In Like Flint was the weaker of the two - the plot was even more over the top than the first - but it still has it's moments. It's worth it just to see Flint in the first film use his boss as a human defibrulator!

    Dr. Wu: Ours would be a perfect world! Why?
    Derek Flint: Because it's your idea of perfection, gentlemen - not mine!

    Cramden (on the line with the President - LBJ): Stall dammit stall! Flint's alive!

    LBJ: "No ahh, no ahhh...

    Agreed, sadly the " Defibrillator " is cut all the time, ( even on my DVD) 8-)
    But it was wonderful seeing it for the first time. :D

    Cannot believe it would be cut. Has there ever been an uncut version with extras ever released?
