LALD, was a huge hit, Moore was already known and loved across the world
So it had many already built in audiences. Bond fans + Moore Fans. )
Also it was a very good film. -{

People loved the unique combination with humor, thrill, pretty ladies, huge sets, exotic locations and big explosions until he's gotten a bit too old with AVTAK.
With the exception of the german James Bond Fan Club (who where heavily sponsored by Mc Clory for NSNA) - bobody seriously doubted him in the role! He was the perfect guy steering the franchise thru the 70s and 80s {[]
Dalton - the weak and weepy Bond!
How anyone could have found TSWLM silly back then is beyond me.
You're the first one with that kind of complaint - but it does not surprise me

Dalton - the weak and weepy Bond!
But he should have hung it up after For Your Eyes Only. While he could still play the consummate gentleman, the physical expectations for the character became increasingly ludicrous. Worse, the productions became more empty and repetitive.

" Moore slipped in quite easily, no lube needed ". )
I'm glad the grand tradition of innuendo, is alive and well. ! {[]
Let me hasten to add that I appreciate Moore now a HECKUVA lot more than I did in my 20-30's.

Pros and Cons Compendium (50 Years)
Face it. As much as Dalton and Craig are AWESOME. They are so troubled and have gone through so much.
Brosnan, as much as I like his films, his character was never fully fleshed out. Moore is and ever will be my favourite James Bond. Now, after falling in love with Fleming books and watching dark and gritty Bond, I've only grown to love Moore more.
Besides. As much as we can dream about other Bond actors taking their place. The Bond franchise was dying after YOLT. IMHO, Moore saved the franchise more then Brosnan or Craig did. He stopped it being a retro, cult series from the 60's and turned it into the phenomenon we know today. If they picked another Connery copy, and tried to follow down the serious OHMSS path (as much as I love OHMSS) it would of killed the series. So raise a glass. -{
Roger Moore IS James Bond.
-Casino Royale, Ian Fleming
Connery in NSNA. Leading to me thinking that AVTAK, was a thank you from
The producers to Moore , so that he'd have the record for the longest running
Bond, as a snub to Connery.
On a side note. I was listening to a radio talk show, and they got round to
Discussing Bond films, all four people chose AVTAK as their favourite Bond film.
Perhaps the general public has a very different view on the Bonds than us fans. )
Applause and Standing Ovations!!!!
The man is right!
Dalton - the weak and weepy Bond!
I agree with much of what you said, but I never saw Roger as my father in any way.
Everyone appreciates the key role Sean Connery played in establishing the franchise. Roger played an equally key role in continuing the franchise, which is perhaps not appreciated by everyone. He proved there was life after Connery, that a different interpretation of Bond could be equally successful. That paved the way for Dalton and those that followed. But Roger did not "save the series" on his own, Cubby Broccoli and the crew deserve as much appreciation. When it mattered most, Live And Let Die, The Spy Who Loved Me, Octopussy, they produced the goods. Failure of either of those three films would have likely meant the series going into a fairly long hibernation, if not actually ended.
And i guess that father comment comes from many fond memories of me watching the films Moore films with my dad.
-Casino Royale, Ian Fleming
no matter who played Bond. Sure AVTAK, he shouldn't have done simply because
he looked a little too old, but apart from that he did a great job ! {[]
But that's okay, I can take it!
Me, wrong???? Never! You youngsters just don't understand! ) ) )
