Im sure Bond ,due to Flemings Jamaican bolt hole ,would be partial to a bit of reggae now and then .I can just visualise Bond in his garden (if he had one) a few mates round from the office ,the Barbie on ,bit of jerk chicken smoking away ,
a bucket of cold red stripes on ice ,and a bit of Bob in the back ground :)

Well, we saw in Dr No that he's into Calypso: at least as far enough to know and sing "Underneath the Mango Tree" to Honey Rider.

    Classical, Jazz, etc .
1.On Her Majesties Secret Service 2.The Living Daylights 3.license To Kill 4.The Spy Who Loved Me 5.Goldfinger

I know Daniel Craig likes Britpop and used to watch Oasis on occasion. I think one show at the roundhouse in London about 5 years ago filmed by the BBC, Noel Gallagher actually said to the crowd that James Bond himself was in the house.

Bond the character would listen to Classical music imo, a bit of Mozart or Chopin and happen some Beethoven!!

I always thought of Bond listening to a composer like Carlo Gesualdo. He was a 16th century composer who killed his wife. After committing murder he wrote stunning madrigals. All of his work feels very tortured and conflicted. I think of Bond as fairly tortured and conflicted so it is perfect. https://vimeo.com/65692510

It's interesting that in all the years that Bond films have been made, we know next to nothing about this. A good question. We know he doesn't care for the Beatles. Daniel Craig's Bond is a Gen-Xer, and he and I are almost exactly the same age (which is why they'd better start making films faster), but if he grew up on the stuff I did, along with his dark personality, I'm guessing more like Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, that sort of thing, along with classical jazz and symphonies. His Bond is much moodier, so maybe he would be into the blues. I'd think he would still be listening to modern music, too, leaning toward the nostalgia craze that ironically is where the next artist for the theme song should be coming from.

Gassy Man, it's great you recall Bond's dislike of the Beatles, I recall Goldfinger, when the great Sean said something about how tough it would be "to listen to the Beatles without earmuffs" just before he gets whacked and Shirley Eaton ends up gold painted and dead.

I got creative and thought of a few albums Bond might have in his sparse collection:

Frank Sinatra cause Bond has been to NY, a very Frank city, and likes quiet melancholy Chairman of the Board tunes like "Wee Hours of the Evening"

Louis Armstrong and Miles Davis because 007 has been to New Orleans, digs Louis, and Miles appeals to Bond's darker side, with Davis fantastic playing of challenging, often sharply disjointed music.

Bond might have 2 classical records, Bach, Brandenburg Concertos, and Beethoven piano music. Even keeled, thoughful, measured music.

And finally I will give Bond, the Beatles non fan, credit for having one Rolling Stones album. High Tide and Green Grass, 1960s early greatest hits LP. Perhaps 007 didn't like She Loves You Yeah Yeah Yeah, but he responds to tunes that remind him of his mortality and women of the past, The Last Time, As Tears Go By, Satisfaction, etc. Something about the Stones darker side gets under Bond's skin for his late nights at home between missions, spent brooding, remembering, or throwing on an album for a midnight female visitor.

This is a fun idea, let's grow Bond's LP collection.

What sort of stereo would 007 have???

I found in the picture from his flat that he has most likely bose speaker.

Maybe he just does not listen to music. Indifferent, he may comment on a music's enjoyment, but nothing more

He'd watch some Alizee on Youtube. But more for the scenic views than the music.

He did have a brief interest in Barry Manilow. :))

    So did Murphy Brown - basically a sleeping pill for her child; says it all really (about Manilow I mean) 8-) -{

I think Bond may have liked this song from Elton John.....always reminds me of Dr. No :)

The Bond of DN might have swung to The John Barry Seven, the Bond of FYEO might have tapped his foot to Rage ('Make It Last All Night') and the Bond of CR might have rocked to Chris Cornell!

I don't remember Bond ever listening to music in the books. Anyone know?

In Thunderball Bond listens to the Ink Spots singing "Java Jive" on the submarine's sound system:
In the background to Leiter’s voice there was a medley of soft noises—the high, constant whine of a generator overlaid by the muted background of canned music—the Ink Spots singing, “I love coffee, I love tea.”

    Here's a link to the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iP6IUqrFHjw

The Ink Spots also appear in The Spy Who Loved Me--Vivienne Michel recalls Derek, her first boyfriend, continually asking her to replay "Someone's Rocking My Dreamboat" on the gramophone. She recalls the Ink Spots once more, during the loss of her virginity:
Derek was eager, impatient. He put his coat down for me and at once started, almost feverishly, his hands devouring me. I tried to melt, but my body was still cramped with nerves, and my limbs felt like wood. I wished he would say something, something sweet and loving, but he was intent and purposeful, manhandling me almost brutally, treating me as if I was a big clumsy doll. "A paper doll, for me to call my own"—the Ink Spots again! I could hear the deep bass of Hoppy Jones and the sweet soprano counterpoint of Bill Kenny, so piercingly sweet that it tore at the heartstrings. And underneath, the deep pulse-beat of Charlie Fuqua's guitar. The tears squeezed out of my eyes. Oh, God, what was happening to me? And then the sharp pain and the short scream I quickly stifled, and he was lying on top of me, his chest heaving and his heart beating heavily against my breast. I put my arms round him and felt his shirt wet against my hands.

John Gardner has him listening to lots of jazz, as a way to flesh out the character I guess, but I forget exactly what
Vivienne Michelle does go on about the Ink Spots, I'm not sure Bond would know that though, being as he doesnt even enter the book for another 100 pages
he does know what record Tiffany is playing, as thats a significant detail in her introductory scene, establishing her character and his understanding of her

best music related scene is Live and Let Die: while Bond is getting his finger broken, Leiter escapes torture and is released because he and his supposed torturer discover a common interest in jazz ... Leiter argues percussion led bands are inherently better than horn led bands, and classifying piano as a percussion instrument, proves his argument by citing the Duke and the Count! I'd set him free too, based on his fine taste in toonage

I think its significant he memorised the serial number of that album
that means he intended to track it down later for himself
and that he knew what bit of information was needed for finding the precise album and not something some record store clerk thought he might be talking about
having researched some of the early 10" jazz LPs myself (specifically the Prestige label) the titles are not definitive, often appearing differently on the front cover, back cover, the labels, and on the "other albums" listings in an artist discography ... it was the serial number that defined a specific album, and Bond obviously knows this

so if he intends to add one album to his collection after the mission is over, he must therefor already have a collection, right?
1956 was early days for the LP format, so he probably had a bunch of 78s as well

I can't remember ever having come across a mention in the IF novels that Bond owns even a radio. In the FRWL he frowns over the idea of a tv.

Then again he spends a lot of his free time in the smoky gambling dens and night clubs, where there is bound to be some sort of background music. With that, right of the bat I can't remember if Bond ever dances with a girl in the novels, if he doesn't there is a high likelyhood, that IF intended Bond not to care very much about music.

Then again, we know so little about Bonds cultural tastes anyhow; IF mentions that Bond has a "book lined library" but names only few books. People make extended speculations about Bonds reading habits based on those books, but if he really has an expansive library, then what is not known is more important than what is known.
Same with music; all we know is that IF does not expressly state, that Bond does not listen to music. IF also has Bond frequent establishments with LIVE music, and Bond for all accounts enjoys this. But what we do not know, is whether Bond enjoys listening canned music, or if he has any interest in music at all beyond it being an enjoyable distraction in the background or a part of an (exotic) dance act.

I picture each Bond having different musical tastes:

Fleming's I picture liking Nat King Cole, Glenn Miller, Milt Jackson, and maybe Benny Goodman.

Connery I picture liking calypso and when he's alone rocking out to Robert Mitchum's Calypso is Like So album.

Lazenby I picture loving Cream and possibly The Rolling Stones. After getting rejected by Tracy in the OHMSS PTS I think he probably sang "Satisfaction" to himself while driving to the hotel.

Moore I can see liking Paul MaCartney and Wings and Michael Jackson. In fact when alone I think he secretly put on his AVTAK tracksuit and would attempt to breakdance to Thriller.

Dalton is probably a music snob and only listens to jazz or opera.

Brosnan in the late '70's would have owned a vinyl copy of Frampton Comes Alive. In fact his 007 secretly can play the guitar and can masterly jam to "Show Me The Way". For Christmas one year, Q supplied him with a talk box so he could serenade Moneypenny.

Craig's Bond I picture having a variety of musical tastes: from Hoagy Carmichael to Eric Clapton. From The Who to Soundgarden, Craig's 007 is well versed.

Yet again I vote Gesuldo. He was an Italian prince wh ok killed his wife. Bond was a rich man who blamed himself for the death of Tracy. Both felt abandoned by God and love.

in observation of the autumnal equinox, lets listen to a couple versions of Autumn Leaves, aka Les Feuilles Mortes, the sad song Tiffany is listening to when Bond first enters her apartment in Amsterdam

    Edith Piaf: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2s2tPORlW4
    Nat King Cole: https://www.youtube.com/embed/684eg6S8dCw
    Sinatra: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AO-H9Ni5NiQ
Cannonball Adderley with Miles Davis: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rsz6TE6t7-A

"The falling leaves drift by my window
The autumn leaves of red and gold
I see your lips, the summer kisses
The sun-burned hands I used to hold

Since you went away the days grow long
And soon I'll hear old winter's song
But I miss you most of all my darling
When autumn leaves start to fall"

here in Ontario, despite the shortening days, we're actually just now getting the hot weather we didn't get in July and August, so I'm going to go outside and enjoy the sunshine, and quit listening to depressing ballads for a bit

Yes, I can definitely see Moore's Bond being a big pop fan. Perhaps during AVTAK he was listening to Purple Rain?
