Is TSWLM overated?

Don't get me wrong, I like it, but I think it is very overrated. Whilst the lotus is iconic, the submarine scenes, whilst still enjoyable, are quite stupid. The villain has a large lair that can be submerged underwater. Wooden acting. It screams 70's bond, and I still like it, I just think it's incredibly overrated.

The jokes, the Lotus. That's a lot of movie for a young boy to take in.
Is it overrated ? I don't think so for Me Roger's best is FYEO but with SPY
He made the role his own. it was " Bond and Beyond " {[]
No
In a word, yes.
Wot he said!
Like TP, I went to see the film with my grandad - twice! It was at the Odeon in Leeds and is one of only two films I've been to see twice at the pictures (the other was in the same year and was Star Wars).
TSWLM has it all: iconic baddie lair, the Lotus, the most famous henchman of all time, Jaws, that ski jump PTS, the best one-liner ending and one of the most beautiful theme songs to round it all off. It was the long hot summer of the Silver Jubilee here in the UK and it was a film that meant more to Brits than probably to other viewers around the world.
Superb film and it still is.
The currency devalued, joining Europe. In many ways it felt like Britain
was sliding down hill fast.
So it was great to see a Film with a cool British agent saving the world.
For a Nations self-esteem it was brilliant, many audiences cheered on
Seeing Bond open his parachute and " Fly the Flag!" {[]
No. It is not overated
Guess what? It was filmed in the seventies. If you have seen any other British films of the seventies its a gem

Connery was a perfect choice for the containment era. But in the Cold War as the west (in the 70's) entered a period of peace with the Soviet Union tensions were lessened. And Moore was the perfect Bond to signify the detente era. And TSWLM was the movie that cemented it.

Pros and Cons Compendium (50 Years)
Dalton - the weak and weepy Bond!
Dalton - the weak and weepy Bond!
The PTS was sensational (and if you were lucky enough to be in a big (1000 seater)and full cinema, to hear the cheers / applause was very special and something I've never encountered before or since
Jaws was a great villain (yes, a bit absurd, but the film was all about size and scale)
Stromberg's lair was fantastic - Ken Adams' greatest piece of work and in the days before CGI a real spectacle that still holds up
The Lotus car chase (ok - up to the point of going into the water) was great
There were moments of light humour, mixing well with more serious sections - Anya touching on Bond's wife and the discussion about having to kill or be killed
And - last but not least - I thought the film has the best settings and cinematography of them all. The Egyptian settings and the way the scenes are framed still look great, thanks to the legendary Claude Renoir.
PS The film was also the critical turning point in revamping Bond and turning it from action movie to blockbuster
Of course, we can all have our favourites and think some are under-rated and some over-rated but in the Bond canon I think TSWLM will always tick a number of key boxes in what makes a great Bond film
No, not overrated at all. -{
You seem to be missing the 2 top highlights:

Dalton - the weak and weepy Bond!
I'm confused as to why any Bond fan wouldn't like the film when it encapsulates everything one would desire & expect from a 'traditional' Bond film. It makes no sense to dislike it.
So I do think it is "slightly" overrated.
I personally think Roger Moore's "classic" was FYEO.
Other films may have better villains or Bond girls, for example. But The Spy Who Loved Me (along with Goldfinger) define for me what the cinematic Bond is all about, combining the classic elements better than the rest. Superb action, great visuals, great sets, very memorable title song and score, Roger Moore at his best. Revived the series on a grand scale. Superb entertainment. -{
Not to put too fine a point on it. Yes, it is bloody brilliant!!! My favourite Bond film without a doubt. {[]

Dalton - the weak and weepy Bond!
That's in fact, what Higgins said when he first saw TLD
I really love TMWTGG but the step to TSWLM is bigger than with any other Bond Movie.
Moving from Spy Stories to a Cinematic Superhero.
Traditionalists and gumpy old men like BL may not like it but the franchise hardly makes any money from us old farts
