The character was repeated in various Cannonball, Smokey and the Bandit movies and in the Dukes of Hazzard TV series!
This kind of stuff was very popular back then
President of the 'Misty Eyes Club'.
Dalton - the weak and weepy Bond!
I think Bondage007 was looking for some one from the 1970s not
1870s Higgins ) but yes silly cops seemed to be all the rage than.
I especially loved Jackie Gleason in the Smokie and the Bandit films. )
Sadly TMWTGG has some " Slap your forehead" moments, the escape
From the karate school, where they leave Bond behind 8-)

"I've been informed that there ARE a couple of QAnon supporters who are fairly regular posters in AJB."
Just to add that I find TMWTGG probably the most underrated Bond movie. With all the silliness Moore played Bond pretty tough in parts.
Indeed Moore played Bond tough. Some people complain that he was too tough in TMWTGG and it didn't suit his Bond, whilst others say overall that Moore was never tough enough. But he's great as a tough Bond for me.
I rewatched it yesterday, very enjoyable and its mainly a sum of very minor quibbles that it could have done with out
1) Theme Tune (ok not minor but the films biggest problem - I detest it)
2) Pepper (see below)
3) Slide whistle (I think this maybe adds to the Pepper dislike as I associate it with him)
4) Scaramamanga "fun house" set - looks very simple / dated hence the finale an anticlimax
5) Karate girls a bit cheesy but accept the times and only minor quibble for me

Thinking more on this, I realize why I've taken so long to have this film inside my top ten- it goes back to 1974... roughly a year since Enter The Dragon came out. ETD set the standard for martial arts in films, and my perception that the martial arts in TMWTGG was sorely lacking coloured THE WHOLE film for me. In essence, it was a lame martial arts film. But it's one of my favourite BOND movies.

Agreed. It is probably my favourite Moore Bond. I even enjoyed the theme song! )

I like both the song AND the score. Apart from the slide whistle I got no gripes with it. And I can mute that for a second.
Question: Am I crazy for liking TMWTGG a tiny bit better than TB? ?:)
No, because TMWTGG isn't bloated and often boring.
Basically, whatever negatives TMWTGG has, it's never boring IMO.
But I DO love TB... I just have to be in the mood for epic slowness in my epic Bond. -{

I think what Thatcher was trying to say was TMWTGG is not bloated OR boring.
My current 10 favorite:
1. GE 2. MR 3. OP 4. TMWTGG 5. TSWLM 6. TND 7. TWINE 8.DN 9. GF 10. AVTAK
Pros:
Moore's effortless charm and charisma.
Lots of great dialogue.
Bottoms Up
Jealous husbands! Outraged chefs! Humiliated tailors!
Chew Mee
Some great sets (if not quite Ken Adam standard).
Christopher Lee & Herve Villechaize
Cons:
Title song.
The two girls don't do anything for me.
Hip is not very hip.
Return of J.W.Pepper.
John Barry's score
The action cue might be a bit quirky but the love cue is very atmospheric and the rest of the score is suitably sinister. Pretty awesome for two weeks work!
Moore as 007
- Moore puts in a great performance as a darker Bond, even showing moments of fear when he thinks he's going to be killed. He humanises the character here, unlike some of his other films. And he manages to do this with his famous wit and charisma.
Original story
- Instead of the usual "take over the world" scenario, we have Bond facing off against his equal. Wonderful. And, for a change, it's better than the book.
Christopher Lee as Scaramanga
- A great performance that creates just the right amount of menace.
Herve Villechaize as Nick Nack
- He has the right amount of cuteness and menace. A truly unique henchman.
Scaramanaga's Island
- Scaramanga's island (now the infamous James Bond island) is beautiful to behold.
Acts 1 and 3
- While the second act is goofy in places, the first and third remain dark, taut pieces of storytelling.
Goodnight
- While she is certainly ditzy in places, there are many moments in the film where she proves herself a capable agent. And Britt Ekland in a bikini - yum!
The duel between Bond and Scaramanaga
- While it's perhaps a bit short, it is filled with tension and is enjoyable to watch.
Bernard Lee as M
- M's outrage at Bond is wonderfully played by Bernard Lee.
Witty dialogue
- As with Mankeiwicz's other scripts, TMWTGG contains some classic lines.
Cons:
The title song
- Lewd lyrics and a horrible melody make this one of, if not, the worst opening song in the film series.
The slide whistle
- Ruins a dramatic stunt.
Hitting Andrea
- While it makes sense for Bond to do this in the story, hitting women is not okay.
J. W. Pepper
- While I could have lived with his first appearance in the film as a cameo, his subsequent appearances destroy whatever class the rest of the film has. However, he does add some much needed comedy to this dark film.
The production
- In places, it seems really cheap, while some of the locations are not typical or as classy as other Bond films. But I find this adds to the films edginess.
Overall thoughts
I find many people berate this film for a lot of minor things - like the slide whistle. Yet, under the rushed story and production, there is an original film here that begs to be enjoyed. It's certainly not the series' best film, but a worthwhile entry nonetheless.
