Is linear progression a good thing for Bond films?

Part of what makes the Bond films special is that new generations of people are getting into it and you could watch most of them in any order you please.
However, I feel like Craig's films (and I don't mean to call this a bad thing necessary) are going in a linear direction. Casino Royale was the origin story. Quantum of Solace was, albeit unintentionally, a direct sequel. Skyfall was kind of its own movie, but it certainly builds on some of the things that the previous 2 established. And with the role of Quantum returning in Spectre and probably Bond-25, it leaves the question: Just how linear are we going to get?
Now for the pros, Daniel Craig totally nailed it with his role with Bond, and as he said, he wanted to slowly develop Bond from a nervous nascent 00-agent into a trained killer. This could work in showing a wide spectrum of performances at the end of his tenure.
So, what do you think?

Are you expecting a man of Dan's calibre to carry on making any old ****. He likes to build up the character from the start. Its what keeps him interested. So far we have had the Bond syndrome from the beginning Aston Martin, Shaken not stirred,Moneypenny. The reboot allowed him to reinvent the wheel. He's carried these films on their own. He's made Bond immensely likeable and has given audiences a character they can emphasise with.
Whats the alternative? In comes ie actor, does any old ****, then goes home (I shan't mention any previous actors)
With Daniel Craig we have got a first class actor. We don't know how lucky we are..

As I said before he works very hard with the producers, writer and director (who was his choice) to get the film right. He's fully involved with the decisions from atmosphere and tone to whether Adele would be right for the title song..
