San Monique

In LALD, the island's name is San Monique. Monique is the French form of Monica. San is a Spanish word. French islands usually use the name Saint - not San. They were showing Haitian voodoo rituals (based on Fleming's ideas from the novel) in the film and Haiti had been a French colony. So was the naming of the island a typo in the script stages perhaps? It would be hard to believe. Should it have really been called St. Monique?

Just sloppy writing presumably. Good point, though and well noticed! I've been working on and off on something an article on the influences on Tom Mankiewicz's script for LALD.

They likely did this on purpose so that the fictional San Monique could not be confused with a real place. This is done often in Hollywood, though sometimes it's done simply out of ignorance (such as all the gibberish Asian names in many films).

and there seems to be some French saint called Monique.
